The person who answered the phone and did the job was Bill, his real name is Vi Ly. His stated that Joseph is his father. The job started out fine with him ripping out the carpet in 4 of the rooms, but quickly became a nightmare when it came to repairing and refinishing the floors. Bill repaired the floor near the radiator by ripping out the water damaged Maple and replacing it with Oak. He also replaced the thresholds for both bedrooms. None of them matched the original flooring. When I asked him why not, he stated that type of wood is not available. What, Maple is not available? Next he sanded the floors and put the first coat of poly on the floor. I asked when the 2nd coat would be going on and he said two coats were already applied. I told him that is not possible since it takes time for the first coat to dry. He said the sanding sealer counted as a coat. This is NOT what the quote stated. It states THREE coats of polyurethane. This is the first indication I had that I am dealing with a scumbag. Bill said he would be back on Monday to put the final coat on the floor and wanted a check for the 2nd half of the balance. I took a look at the work Sunday and was appalled at the poor quality. The floors were only sanded with 80 grit sandpaper and were uneven and rough to the touch. He didn't remove all the old finish in the bedrooms, and the floors looked starkly uneven. There were dark and light patches everywhere. I called him up and complained. Bill said that it would all be taken care of on Monday. Well, he didn't show up to Wednesday and that was after I called to ask where he was. He did lightly sand most the rooms again and fix one of the threshold that had a crack in it. He apologized that the bedroom floors looked so bad and re-sanded them back to bare wood and added another coat of poly on them. Then he gave me a call to ask for the final payment. Bill stated that he was done. I asked him how is it possible for you do be done when you just sanded the bedrooms down to bare wood? There could only be one coat on them. Bill went silent on the phone. I told him I could not pay him until I looked at the work. Well, I tool a look at the work the next day. There was barely one coat on the bedroom floors and they were still uneven in color. If that is not enough, there were buff marks in every room from the drum sander. The final straw was when we went into the kitchen. Bill damaged our brand new cabinets!!! There were deep gouges on some of the doors. We decided to fire him at this point, and he has been harassing us since then. With phone calls and showing up at our house. Our painting contractor said he stole some of his supplies. This guy is a nut. DO NOT HIRE HIM.
