When first contacted FSCC, the owner was very responsive and professional. He came down promptly to take a look at the work and to discuss with me (the treasurer of the Condo association) cost and scope. I originally called him because he was a local businessman in the City and a member of the Chamber of Commerce, and I was happy with him and what he had to say. His verbal estimate was slightly more than 2 others I got, but Pete was friendly, professional, and local; as a local businessman myself I chose him to help support the community and because I had good luck with other local tradesmen in the past. It took him a month plus to write up a proposal. This left me in the dark and frustrated. I called back one of the other contractors I had a quote from and he couldn't do it right away. This is when I signed up for Angie's List and started looking for new quotes. Luckily for Pete I got tied up in other things and he called before I had the time to contact anyone else. He sent the proposal (again about a month after our initial meeting) and after talking it over with the other 2 owners of the building we signed. The proposal had an approximate time line and he kept by it fairly well. I had to call him a few days before the proposed start date to see if we were on schedule, and although the permit could have been taken care of earlier so work could start closer to the date in the proposal, once that was squared away he did show up on the day he said he would to start the work. The work took about the same time as he said it would, and he never left the job site unsafe or for any length of time. During the few days he was here I was pleased with the progress and the work being done. Once everything was done I took a close look at the work. He had done what he said and I agreed he would do, but I did expect the quality of the finish work to be that of a carpenter and that's not what I got. He did a great job matching and tying in the coping, but that's about all that looks good. Many cuts were not butted-up tight against the old lumber, and a lot of caulk was used to fill spaces where a more precise cut could have been made. Also, more could have been done in other spots to transition the old with the new. All-in-all, I should have done the finish work myself and left the structural work to him. I think I would have taken more care and effort making it look good. Billing was a bit confusing, and I I do feel a little like he could have done more for the price, but I think he had his net profit margin in mind when making decisions about how much to replace and what to buy. Lastly, he broke my brand-new cover for my exterior outlet he used for his power tools and didn't fix or even mention it.
Description of Work: I live in a single-structure condo with only 3 units. The front porch on the building was showing signs of rot and the corner was sagging. The job was to jack-up the sagging corner and replace all of the rotten wood with pressure-treated lumber, and replace all the coping and other trim work to match.
