Well, the short version is that this part of the project was a complete DISASTER! I am in the process of updating our kitchen. So to start, I went to Clark Dunbar and purchased the ceramic tile. I decided to go with a larger tile (12'x12') because I figured it would be the easiest. The salesman at Clark Dunbar gave us a list of there recommendations for installation. They also told us that it would cost more to purchase the installation through them and recommended that we hire them "outside" of Clark Dunbar. NEVER AGAIN will I do that! We do not have a lot of experience with the contractors in this area (it was before we had an Angie's List account) so my husband asked the salesman who he recommended. He recommended Cornerstone Tile and just kept raving about how great they were. He said that the owner, Jody, was a real good friend of his and he would let him come put floor in his home any day! So, my husband called him to set up a time to come out and give us an estimate. He came out to the house and gave us an estimate and then we set up a time and date for him to start. It was a Monday that we had decided on. We called the Friday before to confirm that he would still come on Monday and he did. My husband had even taken off work to be there. You know how men are, they like to "supervise"...... Well Monday morning came and no one showed up. My husband made several attempts to call with no answer. Finally, after 10:00 that morning, Jody finally called and said that it would be Tuesday before they could come. His excuse was that all of his workers called in sick (seriously?!). I gave him the benefit of the doubt..... They did make it there on Tuesday! However, it wasn't Jody, it was two young guys. So my husband stayed home again to "supervise". We informed them that the floor in the kitchen was slightly unlevel and one of the guys said that they would take care of that. Well they got started and when they were to the point where some of the tile had to be cut, they decided to set up the saw right under my porch next to my pretty green shrubs. Needless to say, by the time they were finished, my pretty green shrubs were white! So fast forward a few days. When they were finished, it was awful. The tiles were unlevel. The floor had not been "taken care of" like they said they were going to do. The grout was different widths throughout the entire kitchen. They had chipped parts of the tile while laying it I guess but then put it down anyway instead of getting a different tile. The tiles that had to by cut to go under the cabinets were different widths. The tiles under the cabinet were so bad that we couldn't even get our baseboards down, we had to have each one individually cut to get it to fit. They put several gouges in my door frame coming in and out. And then they put the grout down and left it for us to clean. They gave us a sponge and told us what we needed to do to clean it! I came home that evening and I cried. I cried all weekend. Finally, I decided that I was not about to just sit around and deal with the floor. I am not the type of person to just be ugly about things and I especially don't like having to tell someone that I do not like there work. But after praying about it for several days, I decided that he was going to come back and fix it. So I called Jody and I told him to come by. He did and I showed him all of my concerns with the floor. I did apologize to him for not being happy but he said that it was his fault because the young guy that laid it was fairly new to laying tile. He told me that he would order new tile and pull all of it up and relay it himself. I was very thankful. I just knew that it would be done right since Jody said he would do it himself. So after a week, we hadn't heard from him. So I called him to see when they were coming back and he claimed that he was waiting on the tile to come in. So I called Clark Dunbar to see when it would be in and they informed me that it had never been ordered. So I called Jody back and at this point I am FURIOUS and he said that he would order it right then. So after another week, he finally comes back to relay the tile. This time, he did level the floor before laying the tile. However, he did just as poorly of a job as the first guy did. Now, there are some unlevel spots but not as many as there were. The grout is still uneven in some spots. This time, there are several tiles that aren't even lined up, they are kind of turned. And now, I can't even get baseboards underneath my cabinets because he left no space. At this point, I'm just throwing my hands up. I don't want them back in my house EVER again. This entire experience was a complete disaster! And now, about 5 months later, my shrubs still have that white stuff on them. --Kacie
Description of Work: My husband and I had the floor in the kitchen replaced with Ceramic Tile. We pulled up about 3 layers of vinyl ourselves and then hired someone to come in and prep the floor and lay down the tile.
