Described the need to 'Ross'. Was told he would check to see if any were available now. Said none available now. He said I could call closer to date bed was needed to see if any were available. I asked if he could put my name and phone number on a wait list to call if one came available before then. His response: No, we don't do that. I can refer you to (another company). This is disgusting. Will never do business with this company again. Ever. There is no reason for this. Terrible customer relations. I note this is a long time Lexington company with little competition. This is what happens when you have no competition.
Description of Work: Called to arrange for rental of hospital bed for wife after her back surgery on 9-17, she was to return home on 9-21 and that was date bed would be needed.

As CEO of Grogan's, I admit I am not certain about who here at our company completed our company profile or if it was done through an automated process by Angie's List somewhere along the line. At any rate, our company is primarily a wholesaler to hospitals, physicians, nursing homes, hospice, labs, vets, and other professional healthcare providers. We do have a consumer home health care business as well that focuses on women's health (mastectomy and maternity) and non-insurance medical equipment and supplies. In this case, it appears that rather than put (Removed members personal information) on a wait list, Ross (my son in Customer Service) referred him to a qualified provider that deals much more with Medicare and private insurance than we do. We thought that would get (Removed members personal information) what he needed more quickly and effectively than waiting for more rental equipment to become available with our company. We thought we were making a considerate referral and don't understand how our doing so would be thought "disgusting", though we do understand how the response would be less than convenient or desired. We have been in business since 1960 and have a great many large global competitors, plus dozens and dozens of local home healthcare suppliers that specialize in bed rentals, so this is a case of our focusing our business and perhaps not communicating that very well, but not a case of our intentionally being arrogant or offensive as a result of not having much competition. We are very sorry that (Removed members personal information) was not satisfied and apologize for his unpleasant experience with our company.

They were first rate. I used them from September through December. Everything about them was very good. The only minor criticism I had was they have limited hours and they are not open on Saturdays or Sundays. They are open Monday through Friday, 8:30-5. They were very good and very helpful but I had to take time off from work to go there. I wish they had more convenient hours for people that work. I spent a couple of hundred dollars and their prices were competitive. I was happy with everything except for the hours. They were very fair and square. I was very pleased. I would use them again and I would recommend them.
Description of Work: I used Grogans Healthcare Supply for orthopedic supplies. I needed a chair in the bathroom and a knee walker that I rented from them.

This response is late by a few years but I only recently became aware of the review. We were open on Saturdays for many years but eventually concluded that on Saturdays we just were not selling enough to cover the expenses so we we changed hours over an extended period to the current weekday schedule. For many common healthcare products the Big Box companies or drug stores are readily available with their near 24/7 presence. Their prices are good for their limited inventory of healthcare items, but they keep maybe only the top 5-10% of the 10,000 items that we stock and sell and most of them don't know a colostomy from a catheter. As a small, independent, specialized supplier (focusing mainly on professional providers and non-insured items for consumers) in a reforming and consolidating industry, we are required to daily balance the financial realities and customer expectations and that is a challenging process. We do have web site for ordering though that doesn't fully address this issue of course. There are very few full line medical products distributors left in the country that also sell to the public and we are the only one left in KY, which is unfortunate, but we have considered expanded hours over the years and never been able to get the numbers to add up with enough incremental business to be profitable for us. We are sorry for that, but there is not much we have been able to figure out as an alternative.
