When we started, Edy was great. I was referred to her through a friend of a friend. At the time, Edy did not have any clients but had an interest in getting into business. In late 2008 we had purchased a house from a couple about to get foreclosed on and they had let the once beautiful yard go. In the first year (2009), I think we spent $4,000 to $5,000 with Edy just cleaning up the mess and replanting bushes. Edy continued to provide services for the next two years but over time we noticed that the quality of the work declined. Through out this period, we gave her pretty much what she asked on budget as measured both in supplies (mulch, flowers, trees, etc) and time. Interestingly, it was during this period she added an employee and later added a couple of members of her family. Not sure if this is what caused the quality to drop off but it was likely a factor. By the fourth and final year, I found myself scratching my head to reconcile the invoices and claim for X number of hours of work with the results I could see in the yard. Recently, when I notified Edy we had consolidated the mowing, flower beds, sprinklers and fertilizer work with a single provider I received this head scratcher of a response (dated August 30, 2013): "Thanks for getting back to me. Quite frankly, I wasn't happy with how we were able to take care of your property, so all is well. Take care." (emphasis added) Stunning that after four years of being happy to bill us very promptly -- sometimes within minutes of leaving the house a charge would hit my credit card -- only then does she remark that she wasn't happy with how she was able to take care of the property. I give her a "C" overall but I'm probably being generous.
