Aspen Lawn & Landscape
About us
In 1985, I started Aspen Lawn & Landscape with a lawn mower borrowed from Dad and a couple buddies. Slowly growing, I had to start purchasing equipment from local garage sales. My company vehicle consisted of a 1976 Matador pulling a trailer which doubled as my personal car on the weekends. I worked hard everyday to gain both my customers trust and respect. I always strived to go beyond what they expected of me. I wanted to give them the best service possible. 26 years later I have surrounded myself with people as good or better than myself. At Aspen, we make a strong commitment everyday to maintain the same level of performance I first gave my customers in 1985. It is our employees that make the difference. Through our efforts, our customer retention level remains very high. My promise to you is that I will always give it my all to see that the service you receive is my best. Kent Girton Owner/Founder

In 2013, things went south when I came home one day and found grub control all over my yard, organic garden, patio and driveway. Now, would you mind if I sprinkle just a little bit of neurotoxin on your salad? They'd ruined my veggie garden and my little dog was tracking the poison into the house. I called to report this mishap and the receptionist said yes, indeed, my file had instructions to skip the grub application and she couldn't figure why it had been applied. I actually wrote letters to the owner and the turf manager and they responded with the universal no brainer "sorry-bout-that" and offered a free aeration.
Then last fall I hired them to remove leaves in the front yard only, specifying that they needn't even open the gates to the back, just stay in the front because I had top-dressed all of the gardens in back with the compost that I'd carefully tended for a year. Also, I have to budget for this kind of work and figured man hours on the front only would be a manageable expense. I came home and the gates to the back yard were open, the compost was blown off of the beds all over the grass, and the front yard job was sitting there half done! Again, I called and was told that my instructions were indeed in the job notes, it was a mystery why they'd gone into the back yard at all and that, it being a Friday afternoon, they'd gone home and planned to return on Monday AND FINISH THE FRONT YARD!! It took many of my own man hours to rake the compost and mulch out of my back lawn. I paid the bill and fired them.
OK, so this spring my new lawn company comes to turn on the irrigation system and guess what? There's a leak due to a burst line
that wasn't completely blown out last fall when Aspen did the shutdown. So that was another $57.00 for the repair and now my time and expense to put the lawn back together. I didn't even call Aspen about this latest catastrophe - it would just be more tired excuses. They should be glad I'm too old and tired to sue them.
In all fairness, I have to say the girl who answers their phone is efficient and responsive.
Year 2012 has been a tuff year on yard especially with the drought. My problem is that I continued to water my grass 30 minutes each section and three times a week. After each application I was told to water and I explained that I did, yet sections of my grass started going dorment. My last service call in August, I was told things were ok with the lawn and Ryan talk about the weather and drought. Later in August, Ryan stopped by and did a lawn analysis and recommended that my lawn would do better with an aeration and some seeding. The estimate was $347.00 plus 2% fuel charge.
So early this month I cancelled my service with Aspen. My reason was my yard looked worse than it ever did when I was doing it myself with 5 step program. I paid Aspen good mony to improve my lawn so that no verticutting or reseeding would be necessary. I do agress with aeration because I have clay soil so I do it every year. I paid them to get rid of weeds and to enhance my lawn. After two years, neither was done.
