In 1985, I started Aspen Lawn & Landscape with a lawn mower borrowed from Dad and a couple buddies. Slowly growing, I had to start purchasing equipment from local garage sales. My company vehicle consisted of a 1976 Matador pulling a trailer which doubled as my personal car on the weekends. I worked hard everyday to gain both my customers trust and respect. I always strived to go beyond what they expected of me. I wanted to give them the best service possible.
26 years later I have surrounded myself with people as good or better than myself. At Aspen, we make a strong commitment everyday to maintain the same level of performance I first gave my customers in 1985. It is our employees that make the difference. Through our efforts, our customer retention level remains very high. My promise to you is that I will always give it my all to see that the service you receive is my best.

Seems they've bitten off more than they can chew. If I could fire them, I would. Our lawns look worse. Their crews rush through with their tractors tearing up turf and sprinkler heads. The weed eating crew comes through and scalps so severely, they leave a brown path of barren dead stubble. When you call the office, they girls are most courteous and friendly. But, when you talk to the manager(s) assigned to our subdivision, they repeatedly make empty promises. Meanwhile, we continue to pay a pretty penny for lousy lawn results.
Description of Work: They are hired by our Homeowner's Assoc and provide services for our entire subdivision.

I wanted so much for this company to work out for us. Everyone is very nice to deal with but the company has lost control over the quality. A lot of personnel turnover and no follow-up. I tried for two years to have our lawn renovated and it looks terrible. I had them winterize my sprinkler system and they didn't turn off the water. A pipe froze and broke. Really like the folks but I have to make a change this year.

When I hired Aspen in 2011, I specified that I only wanted 6 of the normal 7 annual turf applications as I maintain an organic garden and don't want grub insecticide to be applied. So things went pretty well, they billed for and applied 6 turf applications and did a fair job. Lawn renovation was not great. In 2013, things went south when I came home one day and found grub control all over my yard, organic garden, patio and driveway. Now, would you mind if I sprinkle just a little bit of neurotoxin on your salad? They'd ruined my veggie garden and my little dog was tracking the poison into the house. I called to report this mishap and the receptionist said yes, indeed, my file had instructions to skip the grub application and she couldn't figure why it had been applied. I actually wrote letters to the owner and the turf manager and they responded with the universal no brainer "sorry-bout-that" and offered a free aeration. Then last fall I hired them to remove leaves in the front yard only, specifying that they needn't even open the gates to the back, just stay in the front because I had top-dressed all of the gardens in back with the compost that I'd carefully tended for a year. Also, I have to budget for this kind of work and figured man hours on the front only would be a manageable expense. I came home and the gates to the back yard were open, the compost was blown off of the beds all over the grass, and the front yard job was sitting there half done! Again, I called and was told that my instructions were indeed in the job notes, it was a mystery why they'd gone into the back yard at all and that, it being a Friday afternoon, they'd gone home and planned to return on Monday AND FINISH THE FRONT YARD!! It took many of my own man hours to rake the compost and mulch out of my back lawn. I paid the bill and fired them. OK, so this spring my new lawn company comes to turn on the irrigation system and guess what? There's a leak due to a burst line that wasn't completely blown out last fall when Aspen did the shutdown. So that was another $57.00 for the repair and now my time and expense to put the lawn back together. I didn't even call Aspen about this latest catastrophe - it would just be more tired excuses. They should be glad I'm too old and tired to sue them. In all fairness, I have to say the girl who answers their phone is efficient and responsive.
We've been using Aspen Lawn Service. It's a very convenient service. They also do our fertilizing and reseeding, that sort of thing. They take care of our grass. They don't mess with the plants or the trees or anything. The quality of their work is often average and sometimes below average. I think they could do it better than they do. They do everything that they're asked to do, they just don't do it in a way that's of the utmost care. They're responsive and listen to what I have to say, but I don't feel I get the results of my requests. We're negotiating with them now, which will determine whether we continue their service or not. I would say we would not be using them again, but they have said they're going to come back in the spring to fix some things that were not satisfactory when they were last out, in the fall. We're going to give them a chance to fix it.
Description of Work: They come out weekly during the growing season to mow our lawn and our weeding, stuff like that. Our yard is about a third of an acre.

Received a return to call set up an appointment. Allison showed up on time as scheduled. Emailed an estimate the next day. Allison was very knowledgeable and profession. It was a pleasant experience working with her. Aspen was one of five bidders. They had the highest estimate but the least amount of components (it sounded like the coverage would be the at least as good as the other bidders). Warranty information not provided in the estimate (I'm sure they would have provided it had I followed up with them). Their yearly maintenance program was fixed price and higher than all other bidders. Another bidder was selected for my installation.
Description of Work: Provided an estimate to install a residential lawn sprinkler system (front and back) plus a large planter box - approx 10,000 sf total.

First off Allison, the landscape architect is a very nice person with great ideas. I enjoyed working with her and do not blame her for the negatives that happened during our experience. Allison did come out promptly and came up with a landscaping plan that we liked for our backyard. The price was outrageous but in fairness there was a lot that needed to be done. Allison worked within our budget and had her crew out there within the next week. The guys worked all day from morning to evening and did a beautiful job. Allison was out nearly everyday to inspect the work and she was very good at communicating with us. Once the landscaping was done, we twice had a large rainfall and the rain started pooling up around our landscaping and mulch was headed into the pool and water headed for the basement. We took pictures and sent them to Allison. This is something that did not happen before the landscaping was done. Allison came out to inspect and brought some of her guys with her and we had thought a drain was covered but they couldn't find anything wrong. Allison gave us a name of a drain company and we had them out to inspect the issue. They also did not know exactly what happened but couldn't say for sure that it wasn't the landscapers. At this point we had already paid Aspen around $6,000 and we were waiting to pay the remaining balance until the drainage issue was solved. The drain company could not get out for a couple of weeks and during this time we had negotiated a price with Allison that Aspen would cover a 1/3 of the cost. During the time we were waiting for the drainage company to do the work we received daily calls from Allison telling us that we need to pay the final balance. We said we would as soon as the final bill from the drainage came and we were all settled up. Daily calls turned into emails which turned into Aspen threatening to put a lien on our home. My husband repeatedly asked Allison to have the owner call him so they can be on the same page as to what was going on. No call ever called and finally the drainage company finished their work and submitted their bill. We paid Aspen the remaining balance and have not heard a word since. We now have multiple plants that have died so we only hope they will honor their guarantee and replace the plants. we will see. Stay far far away from this company!!!
Description of Work: We hired Aspen to completely re-landscape our back yard and clean up the front landscaping.

I started using Aspen Lawn & Landscape in the spring of 2011. I went with their seven step program that included grub control along with other insects control. The Turf Manager was Ryan Beats a very personalible young man and on-time with calls to ensure I'm ready for applications to yard. He does this because I have dogs and I wanted a call to insure he didn't have to deal with those issues. My first year (2011) was an ok year but I still had weeds especially along my fence line.and landscrape walls and guards. Year 2012 has been a tuff year on yard especially with the drought. My problem is that I continued to water my grass 30 minutes each section and three times a week. After each application I was told to water and I explained that I did, yet sections of my grass started going dorment. My last service call in August, I was told things were ok with the lawn and Ryan talk about the weather and drought. Later in August, Ryan stopped by and did a lawn analysis and recommended that my lawn would do better with an aeration and some seeding. The estimate was $347.00 plus 2% fuel charge. So early this month I cancelled my service with Aspen. My reason was my yard looked worse than it ever did when I was doing it myself with 5 step program. I paid Aspen good mony to improve my lawn so that no verticutting or reseeding would be necessary. I do agress with aeration because I have clay soil so I do it every year. I paid them to get rid of weeds and to enhance my lawn. After two years, neither was done. .
Description of Work: Joined and maintained their seven step for two years. This is their best program for enhancing your lawn.

I found them to be expensive in general for sub-par quality of service. I had specifically had discussions with them about wanting to overseed and regrow grass under a stand of trees in the backyard. They overseeded, yet mowers repeatedly dumped any branches and things that were in their way under the trees, making it a dumping ground where no grass could possibly grow. Regularly, when they were done mowing I'd find small twigs and branches up against the trunks of trees and bushes where they had thrown them to get them out of the mower's way, but never picked them up. Did have them come and repair a sprinkler leak. They responded quickly and were courteous. Performed the repair competently. They performed flowerbed maintenance, which I again found expensive for what I got.
Description of Work: Provided residential lawn care, mowing, chemical treatment, flower bed maintenance for all of 2010. Sprinkler system repairs on two occasions.

I have a two acre yard and they charge $500 for the maintenance. They clean the flower beds and rake the leaves. They have improved a lot over the years. They have expanded their services; now they are a bigger company. The amount of services that they provide has also increased. You can contact them online, on e-mail, auto-pay; etc. I’ve never had a problem with the quality of their work. In the past, they have built a patio for me and also done some landscaping work for me. They are very nice. I can’t comment on their price. I think they are fairly priced, but they are not cheap. I’ll continue using them in the future.
Description of Work: I use Aspen Lawn Service. They do regular lawn maintenance for me. The last time they came out was 3-4 weeks ago, for a fall clean-up.

Their prices seem a little high, but they do a really good quality job. Usually it costs us $37 when they mow our lawn (min. charge is $35 I think), but last time it was $55 because we had let the grass get too long so they took longer than usual to do the backyard. Also, because of the size of our backyard gate, they can't get their big mowers in our backyard, which is also why they charge a little more. But they don't leave until everything looks perfect!
Description of Work: Lawn mowing. They also edge, blow clippings onto the lawn, and remove leaves (when applicable).

ASPEN HAS ALWAYS PROVIDED VERY TIMELY, KNOWLEDGEABLE AND PROFESSIONAL SERVICE FOR US ON OUR SPRINKLER WORK, AT WHAT I CONSIDER REASONABLE PRICES. THE ONE TIME THEY WERE DELAYED GETTING BACK TO REPAIR A SPRINKLER (3 YEARS AGO), THEY DID NOT CHARGE US FOR THE REPAIR BECAUSE OF THE DELAY AND BECAUSE WE HAD TO CALL THEM TO CHECK ON STATUS (COST NOT CHARGED WAS $150).
Description of Work: WE HAD A SPRINKLER ZONE THAT WAS NOT WORKING. ASPEN HAD SOMEONE AVAILABLE TO COME OUT THE DAY AFTER BEING CALLED, AND HE REPLACED THE DIAPHRAGM, AFTER TRYING TO JUST REPLACE THE VALVE (DID NOT CHARGE FOR THE NEW VALVE). ALSO, BECAUSE WE KNEW WE HAD SOME OTHER PROBLEMS WITH SPRINKLER HEADS, HE WAS GOING TO GIVE ME AN ESTIMATE TO ADDRESS LIST OF CONCERNS. AS WE RAN EACH ZONE TO LOOK AT PROBLEMS, HE EASILY FIXED THEM, WITH ADJUSTMENTS OR A COUPLE OF NEW PARTS AND JUST CHARGED ME FOR A SYSTEM CHECK (WHICH WAS ON SALE), THE PARTS, AND 1 ADDITIONAL HOUR OF LABOR, SINCE HE WAS HERE FOR 2 HOURS.
