(1) Roofing - Looks good. So far no leaks.
(2) Garage door - So far so good. These subcontractors were OK.
(3) Windows - We had three or four windows broken in the storm. For some reason, they pulled out all the unbroken front windows and took them away. When they brought back the unbroken and the reglazed windows, everything was filthy. We had no way of knowing whether they were actually new or recycled. We had to call them multiple times to clean the windows.
(4) Screens - They replaced these with a mixture of black and silver screens. Another inexplicable goof up. We had to call them back out to replace the silver with black.
(5) Window shudders - They pulled down one of the damaged shudders and then nothing happened for a few months. They said a previous employee who was fired may have stolen the new shudder(s). These were finally replaced and painted in November.
(6) Gutters - Gutters were replaced but they weren't powerwashed properly before painting. One layer of paint was applied and within a couple of months it started coming off. Out of pocket expense for us to redo.
(7) Paint - The initial estimate was to paint one side of the house, but the front had enough hail strikes to warrant repainting. We also contracted them to repair a board on the window trim on the front. I ended up having to snap the hail damage photos and submit to the adjuster to get the new estimate because TRG dragged their feet. For whatever reason, TRG was resistant on doing the front side paint work. The guy they sent to do the painting on the side wall only did a touch up job, though the estimate called for powerwashing and two layers of paint on the whole wall. (Supposedly he was fired, too.) When they finally came about to doing the painting on the front side, the result was awful. There are streaks on the garage door indicating one layer was applied there as well, and we also have large paint drip marks on our siding which wasn't there before. When the evening sun shines on the front, you can see clearly they didn't paint the entire surface. Trim paint was dripped on the roof tiles above the garage which is visible from the street. After this paint job, the front looks worse than it did before. Another out of pocket expense for us to redo.
(8) Fence staining - We had initially agreed with Michael that we'd do the staining ourselves to help save on the deductible. They came out anyway and powerwashed the impacted fences. They stained a couple of small sections but then work stopped. Nothing further was done for about 3 months. Then they came out and stained all the fences, not just the ones they powerwashed earlier, and the work was poor. Stain color is uneven across the fences.
(9) House numbers - They lost our house numbers. They offered to replace but we had had enough of their work at this point. I replaced them myself and TRG reimbursed us.
"That sounds like a nightmare, but doesn't sound like this company at all. I can assure you this company is under new management, and this is not how we operate. I'm the Project Manager of Total Renovation Group and I've been here for about two years now. The only kind of major complaint we've had since I've been here is a mix-up on putting batten boards on a house after we replaced the siding. That was just a misunderstanding between one of our consultants and the homeowner. We fixed that mix-up and everything was resolved in a timely manner. Other than that we are the first to notice any mistakes. Our production managers are on the job sites everyday doing inspections. There is nothing I can do to fix a complaint I had no control over. All I can say is mistakes happen in this industry and it's a matter of handling them the right way to make both sides happy. Most of the time it's a communication issue, and once somebody gets offended it can turn ugly. I assure you we would own up to any mistake we've made and handle it like professionals. Total Renovation Group has been in business for over 20 years and a lot of our work has been from referrals. It would be pretty hard to stay in business that long by doing the kind of work this complaint states. I hate to have this complaint on our page, but if there's anything I can do to help ease your mind about our company you can contact me personally at our office. Or just come by and check out our top of the line showroom. 9641 Lackman Rd. Lenexa, KS 66219. Thank you.
