I called 5 painting companies to get estimates on repainting my 1905, two-story home. Kate responded quickly - no one else did! Repainting a home as old as ours takes a very thorough and special touch, and KB painting had it. Kate spent a ton of time with us, explaining the process, picking colors, etc. We waited a very long time to be fit in to their schedule and here's the most impressive part. When our turn came, I was unexpectedly laid off work. I desperately wanted the work to still be done, so I called Kate. She came over and we renegotiated. I did a portion of the work myself, they did the rest. This was more than a decade ago and the paint job looks so good our real estate agent thought it had just been done. I highly recommend them, especially for older homes like ours.

Fairly well for the most part. The quality of the finished painting was excellent, though the stain for the woodwork was a problem. Our only real issue was the price, but I can't say it was a surprise. Kate was very upfront about costs. But they are high quality decorators, not just painters. So if you are just wanting to change wall colors you might want to look elsewhere. But if you are wanting a truly outstanding update, call Kate.

We always welcome reviews and take reviews seriously. Thank you for your feedback. The woodwork repair was a little unusual from the previous owner, leaving the new owner with an unexpected surprise. Duplicating some of the trim pieces was challenging as some of the trim that was used was no longer available. The stain match on the repaired woodwork did not match well, I agree, which is unusual for our company. Matching colors and stains is something we do very well, but on this occasion that didn't happen. We did however, offer to re-do the stain work or make a financial consideration, whichever the client preferred. The client decided take the financial consideration. We do take great pride in our processes for providing a quality finish and the workmanship and technique that it takes to achieve that level of quality, whether you are changing wall colors and in need of our color consulting service or not. We are an established professional company with a team of highly skilled employees. We provide a complete range of home services with our painting services as the number one reason people call us.

Kate, Gary, and a swarm of workers came when promised (as soon as it stopped raining during our soggy spring) and got right to it. They ran into a couple of surprises with the soffitt/fascia repair, but were able to work past them fairly easily. Then they painted the exterior in its entirety. What a great finished product. We are super thrilled with the work they did and how it now looks. It is well painted and we expect it to last for years to come. Each day when they finished up, they cleaned up their work area so there wasn't a lot of debris around, which just shows the level of professionalism that the crew exhibits. We'll have KB come back when we need future work done.

Replaced soffitt/fascia entirely, did some general repairs/patching on various areas around the house, then primed/painted the entire exterior.

Description of Work
Kate came out within a day or two of our call, walked around with us, took pictures, but never gave us an estimate. I called/texted a few times and kept getting what seemed like excuses (very busy, hurt her back, etc.). After a couple of months I gave up and hired someone else, just didn't seem like she was interested in our business. I found Kate very personable and knowledgeable and expected great things.

I contacted KB painting along other painters. I told every painter our home location. Within 48 hours they had all returned our call except Katie. When I called her back I was lectured that I needed to be patient and she was in the paint store. She asked if I needed it this year, but I said it was only a preference. She explained that even quote appointments were booked a few weeks out. We agreed to a time and she said she?d call if there was a problem. She asked permission to text me which I declined due to my work. She texted me anyway to reschedule, I didn?t get the message, but she did call and suggest another time. Her husband showed up 30 minutes early and I was unprepared. After I explained I was on a conference call, he spent quite a bit of time estimating. He confirmed all my contact info, including my personal email address and told me that I?d have an estimate emailed the next day. We again confirmed that doing the job this year was only a preference, and that I still wanted a quote. He explained the quote would be more since the home was built before 1978 and had potential lead. He wanted for us to pay to get it tested (something no other painter requested), but we declined. Other painters didn?t have a problem with a pre-1978 home and gave us a copy of their certification to work on such homes. KB did not. A week after KB said they would get me a bid, they still had not, so I called to ask about the status of our bid. She explained he shouldn?t have quoted 48 hours to return a bid. She asked me again about the ?this year? deadline, and I told her it wasn?t a requirement. She explained that I could sign the contract this year though and lock in special pricing. I was told I?d have an estimate the next day and older homes require a more detailed quote. Instead of a phone call back to the number she already had, Katie actually Googled my name and emailed me at work that she was declining to bid . Since I was out of the office, this went to a very confused assistant. KB twice missed deadlines they set for the bid and then just dropped out of the process. Every other painter got us a bid within a week of our call. KB still didn?t have a bid almost three weeks later. I was disappointed she emailed instead of calling me. When I asked her over email her reasons to decline, she said she had a rainy summer and was having issues with staff and workload. She then made negative comments about my business and staff, which was grossly inappropriate. She emphasized her quality of work and how she is one of the few certified painters to work on pre-1978 homes with potential lead. She is not. She had let her certification expire a few weeks before. When I mentioned she was misrepresenting her business, I received a very nasty reply. She was either too busy to take the time to keep up her certifications or was deliberating misleading customers. Either way, her behavior was unacceptable and unprofessional. I?m sure some other people may have had a great experience, but she?s too busy it seems to give each customer personal attention. When customers follow up she gets annoyed. The certification issue is just despicable. I hope others ask for a copy of all paperwork and certifications from her. The Kansas Department of Health and Environment told me I would have suffered major penalties if I hired her.

We are working on updating the house to be more energy efficient. Included in that is removing the old single pane windows (original to the house) that we had to put plastic over each winter in an effort to keep the house warm. I contacted KB (along with several others) for prices. KB's price was a bit less than the others, but for a better product. So, we got more than we would have for a little less money! The windows showed up (direct delivery from Pella) within a day or so of the promised time and we picked a decent weather time. The install team showed up on time and were quite efficient in getting the install done, despite having to fight a bit against the peculiarities of our 1967 house (shingles on the inside of the window headers for a spacer, as an example). The install team was in constant contact with me as the plan evolved (some trim-out required some shifting of normal plans), but I have absolutely no complaints. Everything was cleaned up at the end of each day, so it didn't look much like it was a construction site. I'll be having KB back next year to paint the outside of the house and replace soffit/fascia boards. I'd highly recommend contacting them if you need work done.

We contacted Kate to come over and give us an estimate and the appointment was to be at 11:00am, she did not show up. I called her at 11:15am and she apologized saying she had the appointment on her paper calendar but not in her phone. She said she would be right over. She came and seemed very knowledgeable and professional and gave us an estimate. The next day we called Kate and told her we wanted he to do the job. She said the next step was to get the window representative out to do the actual measurement of the windows. She said she would call them and get back with us to set up an appointment. Two weeks later we had not heard from Kate so we called her again. She said she had not heard from the window contact yet and she would call them and get back with us. Ten days later still no word from Kate. At this point we became extremely upset and concerned about Kate's method of keeping in contact with and keeping her customers informed. We were just done with having to call her all the time and her never responding back so we called and told her we would not be using her after all. Being knowledgeable and professional only pays off if you keep in contact with your customers and actually get the job done!

I called KB because we needed someone to come to our house to put up cabinet doors in our kitchen, because my husband and I couldn't get them up straight. She had me send her pictures of what type of hinges we had and gave me several tips on what the problem was. We still could not get them right, so she found someone to come to our house only two days after talking to her. I was very impressed with her knowledge, professionalism, and timely response. I will definitely keep Kate In mind the next time I need work done in our house.

She said he would follow up shortly with an estimate. Then . . . nothing. After several weeks I called Kate and asked if she was still interested in the job. She said she was very busy and behind on her estimates, but assured me she was still interested. I've heard nothing from her since.

I had absolutely no concerns. The owner did the bid, and she was great fun an gave me some help with color selection. The painter who did the work was very professional, and did beautiful work. They are a bit pricey, but the quality justifies it.

We were very pleased with the quality of the workmanship, the professionalism, courtesy, and thoroughness of Kate and her crew. We have thoroughly enjoyed the colors that Kate helped us select. The careful pre-painting preparation and the paint quality upgrade were well worth it because we can't believe it has been nearly three years since the house was painted. It still looks like a new paint job!
