I had an upstairs pipe leak water on my kitchen ceiling. The plumber had to cut the drywall in my bedroom to fix the pipe. I called 3 dry wall contractors for estimates, but Premier Plaster was the only one that could come within 2 weeks. The contractor, Doug Wood was neat in his personal appearance & professional in his documentation. I sign a $3,600 contract for him to complete both the repairs, priming & painting of by bedroom, & kitchen & gave him a $1,200 deposit. The contractor explained he was in a hurry because he wanted to make it to opening day for deer season so instead of doing the repair in the kitchen by smoothing out my ceiling then applying the texture he just textured over my current ceiling & now it looks like a popcorn ceiling & doesn't match the rest of my home. I contact them when I arrived home & stated that I was not happy with the way the ceiling looked. When Doug arrived he told me that he never had any complaints regarding his work & that he had never missed opening day of deer season. I could tell that he was angry & I explained that I was sorry & never meant to insult him. I left the home & when I came home he was gone. Once again he just applied more texture on top & now I have a popcorn ceiling with globs & plaster dripping on my floor & counters. I called them twice and left messages stating that they needed to come over before it dried to smooth it out or it might have to be sanded down. I didn't get a call back for about 1/2 hour & so I was afraid that the ceiling would dry that way. I smoothed out about a 3 x 3 section & then Maggie Wood called back & said don't do any more that Doug would be out tomorrow to smooth out my ceiling & show me different texture brushes so that I could select the texture. Doug didn't show up the next day & the ceiling dried. The next day he showed up & sampled a couple of different textures using his brushes. I approved a texture & went upstairs to work in the house while they worked on the ceiling. I went down stairs later to check on Premier Plaster & found that they were gone & that the only section that looked good was the section that I smoothed down & he sampled textures for me. I coat of primmer was applied & the rest of the ceiling looked just as it had before. Globs, Smears & where they put up the plastic on the walls to section off the kitchen from the rest of the house, they took off my wall paint. I called them back & stated that I didn't want them to do my upstairs bedroom because of the bad job they did in my kitchen. I was told that because they had to come out & redo the texture in my kitchen that I still owed them the balance of $2,400.00. I stated that I was not happy with the way my ceiling looks & asked why after I approved the texture the rest of the ceiling wasn't done with that texture & why wouldn't they obtain my approval before they applied the primer. I stated that I was now going to hire another contractor & they would not be paid bal
Description of Work: Premier Plaster repaired a section of my kitchen ceiling due to water damage. The final finished ceiling looks like a popcorn ceiling and not even close to my other ceilings. The plaster was applied to thick and the primmer was applied when the plaster was still wet. They were not on time, the communication and the quality of work were very poor. The concern of the owner, Douglas Wood, at the time was getting done as quickly as possible so that he could go deer hunting. Please note that there are only (4) dry wall contractors in the areas phone book and he was professional in attire and very clean with putting up plastic for dust. I contacted two other dry wall companies to redo my ceiling and found that Premier Plaster was $1,480 more than one and $700 more that the others I contacted. This was an insurance job and he was the first dry wall company to respond so I hired him. After Premier Plaster messed up my kitchen, I contacted the City of South Bend's Builders Department and found that he is no longer a licensed Dry wall contractor. I contacted the BBB and found that he had a complaint filed against him for: Improper/Inferior Repair. They are now threatening me with a law suit unless I pay them the balance. They have $1,200 of my money and I have a ceiling with cracks and globs and now I have to repaint the walls where they took the paint off with the tape they used to put up the plastic.
