Kevin did work in three phases. Installation of path went well, and still looks pretty good. .Next phase was front yard. Poor plant selection, and sold me way more stock than needed. Almost nothing lasted. Yews planted too low. They died. Holly didnt receive enough sun. Died. Winterking hawthorne struggled in poor placement and finally succumbed. Redbud grows crooked. Too much shade from neighboring mature trees. Ridiculous number of viburnum, overgrown mess in three years--out they came. Japanese maple not to scale with other plantings. Rhus around Jane magnolia super invasive and smelly. Spirea choked by all the leaves from surrounding mature treesthat blew into their branches. Only thing that Kevin planted that has lasted is that magnolia and three oakleaf hydrangea. Phase two, more of the same. Invasive rhus. Dead Koosa dogwood. Stunted crab. Ikea lasted a few years, then slowly died off. Japanese maple too close to house, struggling...getting the picture?? All work looked wonderful--for a few months. But ignoring shade from existing mature trees and selling too much for a full look in the near term, along with just unwise selections doomed the job. we spent so much money and it was mostly wasted.

The epitome of professionalism, courteous, prompt and communicative as to what needed to be done. Cost of service was competitive and actual work done was excellent.

Probably the worst experience my wife and I have ever had with a contractor. We signed the contract in May, and he anticipated starting in mid-June. It was finally completed in October. Kevin began by making excuses that it was too wet. Week after week, he would promise that he would start the next Monday, but would not show up. No phone call, nothing. We put up with it until mid August or so, then finally demanded our deposit back (we had to pay him 1/2 down when we signed the contract-big mistake). At that point, he came out and dug out the old sidewalk. He worked a couple of days, then left but promised to come back the following Monday. Naturally, he didn't show up again. It stayed that way for weeks, our yard was torn up, there were chunks of our old sidewalk laying around and he just left it like that. We fell into a cycle where we would demand our money back, he would come and work for a couple of days then disappear and this went on until the project was finally completed in late October. Not once did he ever call us, he just didn't come back. We never felt he was honest with us, and he would never initiate contact with us, ever. Once the sidewalk was completed, he left our yard in shambles. I had to pay someone to come and rototill our front yard where he had torn it up driving his equipment on it. I then attempted to plant grass seed, but it was so late in the season it didn't have time to grow before winter set in. All in all it was a terrible experience.

He was very personable, knowledgeable and trustworthy. I gave him the keys to my house, so that he could come in and do the work.

We wanted a screened porch. A lot of the work performed was okay, but when it came to the painting part he said he couldn?t paint treated wood. I told him that I wanted it painted. He said he didn?t know where his painter was and that he wasn?t showing up. I had already written the check, and he never came back. We also had a broken brick that he kept saying he would fix. He was supposed to paint and fix the brick, which he never did. He also left gaps in the wood and didn?t clean up the mess. I would not recommend Kevin Young Construction.
