We have beehive size is a quarter forming in "A" frame of our home that we can not reach to spray. Guess Alterra feels pests only exist from ground level up 6 feet. We use a can of spray. Normally these companies have industrial equipment that would far exceed our little can of spray. My neighbor uses Alterra for quarterly service. We don't feel we'd use them after this conversation today.

I have had a good experience with them. I have to remind them to do the garage. It is a detached garage and I have to remind them to make sure they also spray chemicals on it or around it as well. I do not have any spiders. I do not meet them on a regular basis, but when I talk to them on the phone, they are very good. They have now gone to Terminix. They merged with Terminix.
Description of Work: I have had a pest control provider that comes out every three or four months. It is Alterra.

I don't know what they've been spraying but it has not been as effective because there are still some spiders and ants. I asked them to come out and do another spray. I'm going to have to talk to them. This will be my last application for a while. They come out again in July.
Description of Work: They did interior and exterior spray for pretty much everything.

Terrible customer service. Agent told me not to worry about being billed for service that I reimbursed by check--"main office does not know what we are doing". Unbelievable lack of integrity.
Description of Work: I had cancelled service with this company, after they failed to call to schedule service with me (I want to have spraying both inside and outside the house). They appear to have been continuing to bill me for services which they have not provided after I cancelled service.

We've been having issues with bug and spiders at our house so when the door to door salesman showed up at our day it was actually a welcomed visit. The salesman was polite, funny, and clearly good at his job because I signed up. However, after he left and I actually got a chance to read the contact as well as some reviews of the company I realized they weren't for us. I've been trying to get a hold of them since 8AM to cancel service, but of course they don't open till 9AM and they don't have an e-mail address either. I left a voicemail at 8:13 from my cell phone to cancel my initial appointment as well as service contact. Based on their service agreement, this cancellation should result in no charge or fee to me as it is being done prior to the initial service being performed, but who knows. The main reason for cancellation is the service agreement/contract. I specifically asked the salesman about a term agreement and/or contract and he said nothing about it. I am not interested in 12-month contract or a company that lacks integrity, a value that our household considers to be very important. Also, reviews on Yelp as well as a few other sites are absolutely terrible, I don't want a company that operates as such around my home, kids, dog, etc.
Description of Work: Meet with salesman and signed up. However, no service was performed because after reviewing the contract as well as the company reviews on the internet we made the decision to avoid this company like the plague.

Alterra rang my doorbell and offered an opportunity to sign up for pest control at a reduced rate. The salesperson stated that because he was working in my neighborhood, he would cut a deal, and only charge $69. As we were troubled with ants, I agreed to the service, but have been extremely unhappy since. I paid the first service person via check on the spot (we have had problems in the past with vendors getting our credit card numbers and charging for services that they didn't provide). I subsequently received a bill in the mail! and when I called the company (which took some time because of call volume), I was told: "don't worry, just ignore the bills")... Then, at the time that I contracted for the service, I confirmed that the service would be provided at my convenience, when I was at home, which means on the weekends. I explained that this would be essential, as I work M-F, and I want spraying both in and outside of my house. Of course, I received an robo-call, indicating that they planned service, during the week. I again had to call (and wait, and wait, and wait)...and was told that they would cancel the service. Unable to schedule at that time, because they did not have Saturday appointments for at least a month (hmmm.....). They came on Friday, despite the cancellation, and left me a bill. So I will have to again call (and wait on hold)--this time I intend to cancel their service.

An Alterra representative came to my door a couple months ago trying to sell their services. They want you to decide at the door because the work will be done in the next day or 2. I informed him that I do not buy services like this without first researching the company. He gave me his business card, left and I checked their rating here and other places on the internet. Today another representative knocked on my door telling me the names of my neighbors who they are servicing and tried to bring me on board. I told him I wasn't interested because I had researched their company and they have poor ratings on Angie's List. He proceeded to tell me that in order for them to promote their company on Angie's List, they would have to pay. He then says they have a good rating on BBB (I don't understand how 166 complaints to BBB in the last 3 years gets them an A rating) and they have 4.7 stars on Google reviews. He states those reviews are from real consumers rating their company. He claimed he didn't know much about Angie's List, which was obvious. And when I tried to explain and set him straight, he repeated his claims about good ratings and having to pay for Angie's List to get good ratings.

We first hired Alterra last summer when they came soliciting in our neighborhood door to door. We had some spiders as most homeowners do, but ants were our biggest concern. We had an annual agreement, so they charged our credit card each quarter, even for an outdoor winter application. Come spring we had ants. I called, they came and sprayed and also applied a granular application. A month later we still had ants. I called again. They dropped their price and came back and repeated the applications and added ant traps. We still had ants. I spend less than $20 on some pesticide from Lowes. No more ants!

We did use them and we do not recommend them. The cost was roughly 100 dollars per treatment so 600 dollars for 6 treatments. They said that they sent email to set up the appointment but I never received anything. They never got rid of our ants, never. They didn’t notify us in advance for the punctuality.

We have been in our new home for approximately 1 month and twice in the past three weeks Alterra has sent cold-call solicitors to our door. I listed to their pitch the first time (the typical we are in your neighborhood working at so and so's house, blah blah blah) and quickly decided I wasn't interested. Three weeks later they sent out another rep (this time a "regional sales manager") and once he identified himself as being with Alterra I informed him they were just here, I wasn't interested then and I'm not interested now. He apologized and left without a further pitch, which was refreshing, but it's ridiculous that a company would send reps to the same neighborhood and houses so often. I have no idea what the quality of their work is, but I would never hire a company that is so aggressive in their door-to-door solicitation practices.

We used them for about two years, and in two locations. They came out as scheduled which was great, and I never had trouble reaching them when I called. The issue we had, however, was once I would set up a call back if we found ants inside or had an issue. They scheduled the call back but no one would ever show up. Very rarely did we actually have someone who came as scheduled. They were professional on the phone with us, even when we cancelled service. While we did end up finding a slightly better deal, that wasn't the reason we cancelled. If they had come out when we had a call back, we would probably have stayed with them.
Description of Work: The provider came out quarterly and sprayed the exterior perimeter for us. Their service included call backs for any insects that showed up in between services.

I will never use this Pest Control company again. They sent a sales man out when my husband and I first moved into our house and we happened to have ants. We were new to the area and I was looking for a pest company. The sales person said they could do everything for a lot less then the competition and he would waive part of the set up fee since I was signing up. After he left, I looked them up online (I didn't have Angie's List at the time) and everyone gave them wonderful reviews. They came out and sprayed everywhere outside and sprayed in the house for ants and then left. We still had ants when they left. I had them come out 3 more times because we still had ants. They even sent out their 'manager' to try and fix the issue with the ants. I felt he didn't really know anymore then anyone else that had been there. Finally, they sent someone out that didn't leave until the ants were gone from the house. We didn't have anymore ants for a long time. We have them again now and they can't get rid of them. Someone comes out and they just spray outside and the ants are still here. When I call and request the guy that stayed until they are gone, they tell me he isn't in my area for a long time. I can't break my contract or it will cost an arm and a leg, but I'm almost tempted to break it so I can have my house be bug free.

I stopped using them. I cancelled the membership. You can't really get a hold of them. We tried to call and it took a little bit to get a hold of them. Their website is not very user friendly. But other than that, the people are good. The service was good overall.

This company sent a charismatic young man door to door on a terribly hot summer day. My policy is never to buy services from door to door solicitors, but this pitiable young man caught me in a weak moment. I had been frustrated with the bug problem and my husband was too busy to deal with it. We had used the services of another pest control company on an as-needed basis, rather than buying continuous coverage. This young salesman started with a ridiculously high price (which makes me angry for our elderly neighbors who often are taken by such robbery), but after haggling with me and returning in the evening to haggle with my husband, he was "able to" get the service cost to match our previous company's price (1/5 of his original price). After four or five treatments, only two of which we have supervised despite requesting to be here when they come, I have mixed reviews. The bug problem is gone and the spider activity at each of our windows was greatly improved this Fall. BUT Alterra will not spray above three foot off the ground and they will only treat the outside of the house. Our previous company would spray behind our shutters where the spiders live, but these technicians are "not allowed to" and always say that the bugs have to crawl up from the ground, which is all they treat, and any child knows that this is simply not true. They weren't very thorough about cleaning down the webs, especially not in our eaves. The two services we've supervised were still only approximately 10 to 15 min of work, whereas our previous exterminator usually worked for 30 to 40 min and he wasn't promising to clean away webs. Several times my husband or I have tried to contact the office to schedule service, and each time there was no answer and a person didn't get back to us for days and weeks. The office staff was unprofessional and the technicians are hit-or-miss on professionalism. We have never seen the same technician twice. The score would be much lower for this company except that their product seems to be working against the bugs. We are canceling our service for next year.

The service crew is great mostly. Ask to have Blake brill come out. He is the best. Office staff not so good. We have been using them for pest cotrolling in our yard. Started the process in june. Watch over service crew to make sure they are doing what suppose too. They hired new office staff and a lot better now. Scheduling can be a pain if they need special access.

We have used this company since 2013. They were good last year, coming quarterly, but in 2014, I had to contact the company to provide service. I was told that they would be to our property, sometime in the beginning of June. They supposedly came to the house in July, when no one was home, treated the house, but never left any paperwork stating what had been done. I was out of state for the summer. When I returned, I asked my husband if he had received any information from the company. After we realized that he had not seen the company and that we were having a terrible time with spiders, I contacted the company. Our credit card had been charged for service, but we had no way of noting that the service was provided. The customer service representative stated that it was noted in their system that they came outside of the regularly scheduled time frame, which means that we had to schedule for the service. I never called to schedule. After debating whether the service was completed or not, I explained that we felt taken advantage of and would no longer be using their services. I was told ok and the conversation ended. Last Wednesday, September 24th, the property was treated again. When I returned home to find the paperwork, I immediately called the company, before 5pm. I had to leave a message. My husband called the next day and had to leave a message. I emailed the company, with my concerns, no response. We have called numerous times and never received a call back, but our credit card was charged. Tonight, I called and spoke to a customer service rep. After explaining the situation, I was read the noted in the computer system, from September 8th. There was no notation that I cancelled service and I was told that by signing the EZ Pay enrollment, LAST YEAR, I approved service. I became extremely upset and told her that I would be disputing through our credit card company. The representative told me that she would cancel our service, as of today, but there wasn't anything that she could do about the service from last week. I would NEVER recommend this company!!

Awful-I'm not sure any service was actually performed. First, I didn't know that he was even here until I heard someone talking in my yard because he was on his cell phone (kind of hard to put down bug spray and wipe down stuff if one hand is busy holding a cell phone). By the time I got to the front to stop him and walk him back through to actually wipe down the windows, eaves and doors he was already gone. Second, when I called to complain (this would be the third time) the customer service rep said that he said he knocked several times but nobody answered-he never knocked nor rang my doorbell-maybe because both were coated with spider webs. Third the rep said that they could schedule a retreat which I responded with there is no point. I have more spiders now than I did when I started service and I have to be out there and walk the tech around to make sure they actually do what I am paying them to do. I then said I want to cancel my service and that I was not going to pay for today's service because I have pictures of the lack of service performed (all the spider webs still around my doors and windows). The customer service rep said that she would have a lead tech come out to re-treat and I said not to bother. She then said she would put my account down for cancellation but I would have to pay a cancellation fee. I told her I would like to speak with her manager because I did not feel I should pay a cancellation fee since no service was provided. She told me that her manager was out to lunch. I asked when he would be back and she said she didn't know. So I asked for his name and the rep told me that she would make a note to have him call me. I said "Can I have his name and I will just call him and speak with him?" Again she reiterated that she would have him call me and again I said I would like his name so I can call at which time she hung up on me. If this company come knocking on your door to sign you up for service-chase them away!! You will have more bugs than when the service started!! Update: As of 10/2/2014 I have called on 3 different occasions and left messages with the company to return my call so that we could work this issue out and as of yet I have not received a call back. On the day I contested the service they said a note would be added to my account to have them call me-and as of yet I still have not received a call back. They charged my credit card for the service and I have disputed the charge on the credit card. At this point I would just appreciate a phone call to work this out. We were taken in by this company as well. They came door to door, we had a lot of ants and insects and agreed to use them. They have been out twice, we have more insects than ever and they are now charging us an additional $100 for breaking our contract. Angie's List, if there is anything you can do to get our money and other's money back from these scammers, we would be grateful. If they charge us again, I will have to take them to court. We have seen no signs of their work, no decrease in insects and only an emailed receipt.

.Did not respond to our calls EVER. We had ants all over the home again after the initial spray. The rep said to call if this happens and someone would come out again for no extra charge. The entire charge was to be $69 for the initial spray and the $109 for quarterly sprays. We have cancelled the service after the initial spray because no one has ever answered the phone or called us back. I believe this company to be extremely dishonest and fraudulent

All quarterly services have been performed at times without our knowledge, when we specifically requested to be informed because we have fence that must be unlocked for access to the back yard. We have had to repeatedly call and reschedule service because the back yard was never treated. Due to the fact that we were dissatisfied with the overall quality of professionalism by this company, I requested service to be cancelled after our fourth quarterly visit. I was told at that time a note would be put on our account to stop service after the contract ended. This was not done and we were charged for another visit which we did not authorize. This visit only consisted of treating the front yard, because as usual no one called to schedule a time to come out. All attempts made at speaking to a branch manager have been ignored. We have received no call back despite repeated requests. Each time, we are told the manager is unavailable and will return our call, but this does not occur.

My husband answered and the first words out of the young mans mouth, as my husband stepped outside the door were, "watch out! There's a big spider right behind you!" To which my husband responded, "Don't worry....I'm not afraid of spiders." Then my husband got right to the point (because his salmon hot off the grill was getting cold!) and he said, "What do you need?" The salesman said, "I'm with Alterra Pest Control." My husband told him we didn't need pest control to which he immediately responded, "You already have lest control?" My husband doesn't take well to unsolicited strangers....he looked at him and said, "Just go away!" And walked back in the house! I will be reporting him to our neighborhood association. So glad to see the other bad reviews on Angie's List, too. What a scam!
