Got a gift card to Fry's for Christmas. Decided it was time for a PC case upgrade, as well as some other things I had been waiting to upgrade. Shopped their website, eventually settled on some components. I live quite a ways away, so called to verify stock on items before going there. Person on the phone confirmed that everything was in stock. When I got there, I could not find what I was looking for, so looked for a salesperson. After 10+ minutes, I finally found someone. He looked up the desired item, and told me that the only item they had in stock was the floor model. The floor model was missing several things from it, and he told me that the manager would only deduct 5% if I wanted to buy the floor model. He said that the computer system they use did say they had 1 in stock, but that was only the floor model. After a couple of hours round trip travel time, I am left with a disappointed feeling. Used to be a great place to shop, nice staff, helpful. Anymore, the staff is almost non-existent, and the store has gotten dirty. Today there were multiple shopping carts with trash bags in them, that were apparently there to catch rain that fell through the roof. Disconcerting to say the least. I was able to shop online with the gift card, made sure to use as much of it as possible, but was NOT going over. I am not going to give them any more of my money. I will go online for electronics purchases from now on. The iron egg promise has never let me down yet.
Description of Work: The provider disappointed me, completely. Told me items were in stock, but after driving over an hour to get there, was told the only item in stock was the broken and pieces missing floor model.

On thanksgiving day I had been trying to purchase stuff online with the promo codes I received online. Everytime I try to checkout with the promo code, the site errors out. If I do not use the promo code then the site works fine. A perfect way to fool people. Did it once but will not waste any more time on FRYS.COM. Had similar experience in the past as well. God bless those who shop here....

I bought a very expensive computer from them and had my technician with me. He suggested I get this program that would handle combining my 2 computers accounts together. We talked with the sales guy who recommended a different program than we were looking at, and said it would hook up 1 computer, but with 2 accounts. We bought it, and when we tried to use it, it would not work for 2 accounts. I tried to take it back, and they told me too bad. They would not allow me to exchange it because I had put it in my computer already. I explained to him that it was the sales man's idea for me to get this and that I was going to purchase a different one, but was trusting his judgement. I was told that this did not matter, and I was out of luck.

We decided on the television that we wanted. Tyler looked it up and told us there was only one left. We got the dimensions of the set and went home to measure the cabinet to put it on. Everything was working out perfect. We called tyler back and he assured us the tv was still there. We drove the 45 minutes back to the store and again Tyler assured us the televison was there with our name on it. When he brought the televsion out is had stickers on the box and had been retaped. The only televsion set they had in what we wanted was a return. It is not professional to let a customer drive one and a half hours for a used televsion and not tell them over the phone. We bought our last plasma tv from Fry's and many other things. No more.
Description of Work: Tyler our salesman was very good at finding us a tv. He knew all about the different tvs. He said he was woking on his day OFF.

\very badly in fact I will not but another thing from frys.
Description of Work: I bought a computer in February 2013, it would not connect to the internet very well and eventually not at all. \took it back July under warranty to be fixed. They said manufacturer would have to fix it so they sent it to them. Got a call on 8-16-13 from Frys saying the manufacturer could not fix it and I had an in-store credit waiting. Went in to get my credit and purchase a new computer was talked into buying a refurbished computer and was told that I would have all the trials available on it as if it was a brand new computer not a refurbished one. I was insistence that it have office 2010 as I had just put it on the laptop that had to go in to be fixed. since they could not fix it and they did not install the software they would not give me credit or load in on my new laptop. so I wanted to make sure that I would at least have the trial version available. \went I got home and set everything up found out that I had no trail versions and would have to purchase the software. call the salesman at frys and was told to try first with Microsoft and he would check with his manager. while on the phone with Microsoft he called and left a message to call him as he had additional information for me. when I did he said he was sorry but refurbished computers do not get the free trials end of call.

They seemed to be unsure of their inventory. I've had the same problem with them when I've gone before. It's like they've got a piece of paper with all of their inventory on it, but they have no idea where it is and if they don't have it then they have no idea of when it will be in. They only get so many shipments and they don't special order things so you have to wait until it comes in. It seems like that's the way the run in my experience.

I have been shopping at Fry's for several years now and they are by far the best electronics store in the area. They have everything including one of the largest selections of Tv's. The facility is always clean and the employees wear dress shirts and ties which is a nice touch. The salespeople always seem very knowledgeable about the products. One thing to watch out for is that they do work on commission so you need to be sure they are looking out for you best interest and not theirs. I must say I have not had many instances where I felt pressured to buy something that I didn't want to. The salespeople have been very good at catering to my needs. I had one bad experience in the car audio installation department a few years back which is in a separate building. I am a little skeptical about that department. Other than that the store and the employees are great and I absolutely love Fry's!

I thought they did well; it is a busy place. The store was clean and they were willing to help you. I had no problem exchanging some items I needed to return; they were willing to do that and help me out. They provided outstanding service. They were really good on pricing.

I picked Fry's Electronics because of price and selection. They honored the guarantee for the work on the computers no problem. They took care of everything. The service man gave extra service for a minor but important problem.

Its like a candy store, they have about anything you want except lumber. You can find anything in there. I give them an excellent rating. I will absolutely use them again and you can mail order from them.

The service was covered under the plan, so the charges were free. It came with a 3 or 4-year service contract plan. I had to take it for a couple of times since I have brought it new for service. The first time, they took a couple of weeks to get it fixed. The second time when I went, they gave me a loaner computer while mine was getting repaired. The thing I like the best about them is the selection of their products. The thing that I like least about them is that it takes a few weeks to get the laptop repaired.

Very positive experience. Lots of help, good knowledge of the individual components by their employees.
Description of Work: I've used Fry's quite a lot over the past few years for customized computer and server system builds. Not the cheapest place to shop, but they have EVERYTHING. The employees in the computer parts department as well as the computer sales department (no idea why they separate those, and place them on opposite sides of a very large store) are generally knowledgeable and helpful, but usually stressed from the hundreds of people they help throughout the day. This store has absolutely everything......it does help to be at least conversant in what your needs are before going in.

We looked up some information and then we made a decision to get a new washer. It went very well. There were no problems at all. The number one issue was price. Their personnel were also able answer any questions and provide information that I felt was helpful. I would recommend them to a friend or family member, but I would advise them to check the price. They are not always the lowest, but they were on the particular model we wanted. They were very knowledgeable. When we purchased the computer, they were extremely helpful in understanding our need and making sure what we were looking at would take care of our needs. The price we paid was for the computer and an extended service plan.

I arrived at the store at about 20 minutes before closing on October 20th. The tech (Mike) wanted to pull the drives to see if the data was visible. Understanding that is was right before closing, I told him that while I appreciated that, it was OK for them to look at it the next day. A week later, I hadn't heard anything and I followed up with them and was told that they hadn't even started doing anything with it and that it would be another 3 or so days before they would. On November 1st, I went to the store and spoke with Edgar. He said that he would start it the next day when he arrived at 10AM. I called the next day to check and see if they had started it and was told it was and they would call me the following day. I repeatedly had to initiate communication. In one of my conversations with Edgar, he said he was 99% confident that he could partition the drives and get the data. Another tech eventually called and said they couldn't get anything. This was the only time they initiated a call to me. When I went to pick the devices up, the had pretty much mutilated the casing on one of them and they didn't put either of them back into the casing. I got them back in pieces. I will never use them again for service of any kind of electronics. It seems as if they aren't sure they know what they are doing, with all of the guess work and not being able to communicate back with some sort of regularity.
Description of Work: 2 external drives needing hard drives to be pulled from devices and put on a desktop computer to see if data is visible (per Seagate). If not visible, then try to do data recovery of information on hard drive.

They had my computer over 3 1/2 weeks. The only time I got information was when I called in. The people I dealt with on the phone let me know that my call was an inconvenience. They determined it was the motherboard and needed a call from the supplier to figure out which to order. I got fed up with the waiting and picked it up unrepaired. They thought they were going to keep the $75 for diagnosis and estimate, but since they didn't give me an estimate, I insisted they return my money. I took it to a repair shop listed here on Angie's List (when my computer first went down, I panicked and took it to the first place I thought of--lesson learned) and in less than a day I heard from the tech. He told me that my computer has some heat issues and wanted to know if it had been sitting around with the battery out. I told him it had languished at Fry's for over three weeks. He said it was working fine now. So, in that time, Fry's hadn't even looked at my computer and they were going to charge me several hundred dollars for a part I didn't even need. I complained by email to their corporate office. The store manager called me first thing the next morning. She said they've had nothing but trouble with their computer repair department and apologized and sent me a $75 gift card. I still haven't been back even to spend the gift card. Stay far, far away from the computer repair department at Fry's. They couldn't do less work or less professionally.

I think Fry's is a great store. They are by far my first choice for electronics and software, but I would not recommend purchase of any item or appliance if you are interested in an extended warranty. Their policy seems to be designed to frustrate their customers into dealing with the problem themselves. I fnd it inexcusable that it takes over a week just for someone to begin to process the service request. What I understood is that this was their standard process, not some random error.
Description of Work: I have a long tem service agreement for a GE washer that I bought from Fry's. The rinse and spin cycle stopped working and I contacted Fry's last Saturday (17th) about getting service. They informed me that it would be 5-7 business day just for their office in California to get a service rep assigned to begin the process. The service manager at the local store was apologetic, but said that it has to go through their corporate office and that is their process. We receive no contact last week so I called today. The service manage was, again , very apologetic, but apparently nothing has happened, so he was going to try to contact their corp. office to try to get someone to do something. Very frustrating.
