I put a load of laundry into my washing machine only to come back and find that the washer had not gone through the spin cycle (so the washer was still full of dirty water). I drained the washer myself, and then called Mathew Appliance to assist in a repair. I was at work and they had one call before they could come to my place, they said they'd call me and I could leave from work to meet them. I received a call an hour or so later and met them at my apartment (he actually beat me there). It took about a half hour for him to complete the repair, and he was happy to explain what had gone wrong. It ends up the lid switch had gone out due to letting the lid drop over time. It cost almost exactly what he estimated initially. Great experience, and I would use them again in a heartbeat!

The technician was able to diagnose the problem immediately, had the needed part in his truck and completed the repair within 30 minutes. He came over and determined it was "thrown out" and not really a continual leak. He couldn't do anything about it so he didn't even charge us for a service call. He was extremely professional.

I called Monday morning, and because I had flexibility with my schedule this week, he said he would call back to let me know when he could stop by to check out my refrigerator. He called back later that morning and gave me a 2-hour window when he would arrive in the afternoon. He arrived at the beginning of the time period he gave me. I showed him the problem with my refrigerator's ice maker, and he pulled the ice maker unit out. He quickly determined the cause (the ice maker tray had cracked and was worn, causing water to leak from the tray). He showed me the problems with my existing part and answered any questions I had. He quoted me a cost for replacement and gave his recommendation (replacement). He had the part available on hand, so I asked him to proceed with replacing the part. He quickly replaced the broken unit and put the ice maker back together. I was very pleased with promptness of service and his courteous demeanor, and I would not hesitate to call him again for appliance service.
Description of Work: I called because my refrigerator ice maker was leaking, causing puddles of ice in the freezer and icicles to form underneath the ice maker. He determined the ice maker needed repaired, and he replaced it for me.

$500 seemed a little steep to repair the yr 2000 'fridge, especially since I had poured $200 into it in 2007 for other repairs. But it was an expensive unit to start with. Shows you how reliable Kenmore is these days. The water line was corroded due to the condenser motor's overheating over the years. Funny, but the motor's constant overheating is evidently what caused the front panels of the refrigerator to feel fairly hot to the touch ever since we purchased it. I had called Sears about that way back when, and asked the 2007 repair tech (Turner Appliance) about it when he was here for a compressor starter repair. They both indicated that the hotness was normal. I had a hard time swallowing that, but since both Sears and Turner agreed, it must've been so. When Mathew was here, he said, "Whoa, this is pretty hot" upon touching the front panels (not the DOOR panels, but the front panels visible when opening the doors). He said that the hotness was due to the faulty condenser motor, and evidently it's been faulty for 8 years! Mathew replaced the motor and ever since, the front panels have been MUCH cooler. So, of the $500 bill, $140 went toward a repair that I had not anticipated, yet welcomed. It makes me angry that I didn't press the issue with Sears originally, during the warranty. But Turner didn't help the matter when they agreed with Sears that the hot panels were normal. Mathew did a great job.
Description of Work: Kenmore side-by-side refrigerator ice maker was not producing ice, water line to dispenser was leaking. Mathew replaced the ice maker and photo eye sensor, and repaired the water line. He also found a problem with the condenser motor while he was here, and replaced it.

It went excellent. I called them one afternoon and he came the following morning and fixed it for me. He was prompt and on time. His price was the same as the quote that he gave me. He is clean, courteous and explained the work what he was doing.

A lot of talking that did not accomplish anything.
Description of Work: I called for dishwasher repair. My dishwasher was leaving grit on the glasses. Mr. Mathew came over and was very nice. He did not actually do anything other than talk and run vinegar through the dishwasher. He told me that I was using too much detergent and not the right brand. After that visit I continued to have problems even after switching brands of dishwasher detergent and reducing the amount I was using. As it turns out after someone else looked at the dishwasher - the device in the dishwasher was not lining up with the drain in the machine. It was very easy to fix and took almost no effort.

IF THE PROBLEM PERSISTS WE OFFER A 90 DAY GUARANTEE. THE CUSTOMER COULD OF CALLED US TO COME BACK OUT BUT CHOOSE NOT TO. I DON`T KNOW WHAT THE OTHER PERSON OR COMPANY DID BUT IN MY 12 YEAR EXPERIENCE I`VE NEVER ALIGNED A DEVICE IN A DISHWASHER TO GET RID OF GRIT. THAT'S A NEW ONE ON ME.

We called first thing on a Monday morning and they were here by noon. They diagnosed the problem quickly and showed my wife the issue was a build up of lint on the internal fuse. This caused the fuse to overheat and trip like a circuit breaker. Don was very patient in answering questions on the dryer as well as the washer. He also made recommendations for future purchases, front loaders versus traditional top loaders. He said the front loaders looked good but in reality the relatively small energy savings would be quickly eaten up by high repair costs and shorter life cycle, "but they have a paint job that's better than my car!!!" We are very satisfied with Mathews and will call again when the need arises.
Description of Work: Dryer would run but would not heat to dry clothing.

I called one late morning, and was able to get on the list for the next day. They arrived just when they said they would (they called that morning to give me a time), checked out the problem and had it diagnosed and fixed within about an hour.

I arrived home late on a Sunday (8/3) evening to a load of wet clothing. After checking the vent and filter system, circuit breakers, it was apparent the dryer was running but not heating. After checking Angie's List, called Mathews Appliance Repair late morning on Monday. I described the problem to John Mathews. He said he would try to arrive in the afternoon and gave me a approximate time, and would call when was on his way. He called and arrived within the time stated. The part that had failed was on his truck. My dryer was working with no problems to date (8/6). Parts and labor come with a 90 day guarantee. The only problem was that he would not let me keep the part that had failed. I was allowed to see the part removed and observed the break in the element. Mr. Mathews was punctual, professional, and overall friendly and polite. I would highly recommend this company to family and friends.
Description of Work: Electric dryer heating element replaced. Suggested having additional service to inspect duct and roof exhaust system inspected for obstructions.

When I called, I gave the representative my time schedule, explaining that I would be out of the house until a certain time, and that only my elderly mother and ferocious dog would be at the home. He said to keep the door open, and that he would do the job and that neither of them would know he was there. He came while I was at home, but in the garage. When he arrived, I had left a note on the front door telling him to come around to the back. When he came around, I greeted him from the garage. I told him to wait a moment while I ran to get the keys to let him in the front. He rolled his eyes and replied, "Dude, I was just around there." I explained the situation with my sick mother and ferocious dog again, and he just chuckled. I told him if he had a problem, then he could leave, which he did. I thought the representative was discourteous and unprofessional, and I thought he exercised poor judgment and listening skills.

WE CALLED THE CUSTOMER TO SET UP A TIME EARLIER IN THE WEEK. HE SAID HE WOULD BE HOME AFTER 1PM I SAID I WASN'T SURE IF I COULD BE DOWN IN BROADRIPPLE THAT LATE BUT I WOULD TRY. WE WERE ABLE TO WORK HIM IN BUT HAD TO WAIT FROM 1P TO 1:30P BEFORE WE COULD REACH SOMEONE AT HOME ON THE PHONE. THE PERSON ON THE OTHER LINE SAID THINGS HAD CHANGED THEY WOULDN'T BE HOME TIL 3P. SO AFTER 30MIN. OF INVESTED/LOST TIME WE LEFT. THE CUSTOMER CALLED LATER THAT DAY AND SAID HE WOULD BE HOME FRIDAY AFTER 12:00. SOOOOOOO FRIDAY CAME AROUND I CALLED IN THE AM THE CUSTOMER SAID AFTER 12NOON WAS STILL GOOD. SO WE DROVE 20 MILES FROM WEST FIELD TO HONOR OUR COMMITMENT TO THE CUSTOMER. SO WE ARRIVE AT THE HOME, FOUGHT FOR A PARKING SPOT ON THE STREET GO TO THE DOOR W/TOOL BOX IN HAND AND SEE A NOTE WHICH READ, "PLEASE DRIVE AROUND TO THE BACK". SOOO I GET BACK IN MY TRUCK DRIVE AROUND THE HOUSE, DOWN AN ALLEY AND FIND THE CUSTOMER. I GET OUT LOCK UP THE TRUCK W/TOOL BOX IN HAND AND GREET THE CUSTOMER AND HE SAID, "WILL YOU GET BACK IN YOUR TRUCK AND DRIVE BACK AROUND TO THE FRONT OF THE HOUSE AND PARK. I HAVE TO FINISH WHAT I AM DOING AND I WILL MEET YOU UP FRONT." AT THAT POINT I MUST ADMIT, I WAS FRUSTRATED. I UNDERSTOOD THE DOG, HIS MOTHER, BUT A PHONE CALL COORDINATING MY ARRIVAL OR STAYING IN THE HOUSE UNTIL I GOT THERE WOULD HAVE ENABLED ME TO GET IN THE HOUSE MUCH SMOTHER. I GOT THE IMPRESSION THE CUSTOMER DIDN'T CARE HOW MANY HOOPS HE ASKED ME TO JUMP THROUGH. SO WHEN HE SAID, "IF YOU HAVE A PROBLEM I WILL CALL SOMEONE ELSE." I KNEW BOTH OF US HAD A PROBLEM WITH EACH OTHER. SO AT THAT POINT I DECIDED MY CUSTOMER RELATIONSHIP WAS LOST AND BETTER TO LEAVE. SO I DID.

I liked him very much. He was polite and practical. He explained to me what he did. He made do with what he had because we had an old refrigerator. His whole manner was just very very nice. He charged a very good price. We had another contractor previously that was unable to fix this problem.

Although John came out the same day, which I appreciate, he has not worked with this particular washing machine model and I wish he would have told us that before agreeing to come on the service call. He charged us $65 for the visit (less $5 for the coupon), although his Angie's List profile says $45 flat fee for a service call. I was expecting to pay $45, but with a price 44% higher, I have to rate the price as a D. I suggest John change his profile since the price is misleading.
Description of Work: John looked at our GE Profile front-loading washer and said he thought we should simply replace it with a new washer.
