John Mathew responded to our telephone message very promptly. Our 25-year old dishwasher had leaked the evening before. He was able to make a service call the same day. John said he could repair it (needed a new motor), however, the parts and labor were going to be almost as much as purchasing new. He recommended a brand that he felt had good performance, which we appreciated. While we didn't have the repair work done, we'll definitely call John in the future for other appliance repair.

Thursday night I washed towels and when the washer stopped I went to put my towels in the dryer. The washer was still full of water and fabric softener. I tried to put it back to where it was supposed to drain, spin, or rinse, nothing. Friday morning I started trying to get someone because I didn't want to leave wet towels and water in my washer all weekend. I called this Mathew Appliance Repair first from my list because of the glowing reports. He had a full schedule, of course. The good ones always do. I told him if I couldn't get someone that day I'd call back. I tried a couple of places, same story, so If I had to wait till Monday anyway, I figured I'd wait for John. I let him know and he suggested I dip the water out of the washer and he's see me Monday. He came and said I had a pump and belt that needed replaced. He gave me an estimate of about $ 230.00. My washer is 22 years old and has never had to be repaired. But as he pointed out. 22 years is old and he might find other things were needed once he got into it. Also it could last several more years or not. He asked me to think about it and let him know whether I wanted to replace or repair it. I thought about it. Priced some new ones, called him back and told him neither my budget nor I wanted a new washer. He had explained the risks fully and I wanted him to order the parts. On Wednesday he came with the parts and put the pump on. He said the belt looked OK. He wouldn't need to replace it. That saved me $30. He went to the trouble of ordering and bringing it. Honest repairman. (Not an oxymoron here) He didn't find anything else wrong with the washer at this time anyway. I asked him questions about some other concerns I had. He was nice enough to answer all my questions and give me some helpful hints. He also took off $10 for my being an Angies member.
Description of Work: My whirlpool washer wouldn't drain. Mathew Appliance Repair diagnosed the problem, ordered a new pump and belt and installed a new pump, but said upon further inspection, my belt didn't need replacing. At my request, he also pulled loose the vent from the back of my dryer to make sure there was no build up of lint .

Best appliance repair call that I have ever experienced. Professional, knowledgeable, timely, good value. I was afraid that the washer was done for. John replaced the belts and now it works fine. Besides that he is just a really nice guy who owns his business. He is a great testament to the entrepreneurial spirit.

John was great - he came the same day we called, and was very pleasant and professional the entire time. Our washer had become clogged, he showed us what was wrong, chatted with us about a few other plumbing issues while the washer was draining and he tested it to make sure it was fixed. I would definitely have him back if we should need any other work done on this appliance, or in our kitchen.

It only took him a day to get here, he was very prompt. He was very pleasant, got the job done. It wasn't a huge deal, but there were a few other appliances I wondered about. I thought maybe my fridge needed a new gasket, and he told me I was fine. He was very honest, and not trying to get as much as he could out of me. I thought he did a really good job.

When I called John, he took the part number of the cooktop and said he would call me back when he got parts information. He promptly called back with the price for a gasket for the first burner and said a new igniter would cost $75, which might not be worth it for a 20-year old cooktop. I agreed but told him to go ahead and get the gasket to fix the leak. He called a week later to say he had the part, came that afternoon, and fixed it. He also had to do some work to clean and bend the tube where the gasket fit and he cleaned the igniter, which didn't totally fix the problem but made it work a little more often. I've used John before. He is professional, works quickly, explains what he is doing, and cleans up after he is done. I ahve nothing but praise.
Description of Work: One of the burners in my gas cooktop had a gas leak at the side of the burner, resulting in a flame at the side of the burner when it was turned on. The igniter on another burner was not consistently sparking when first turned on.

Description of Work: Mr. Matthews checked the appliances I asked him to check, told me what was needed, what could and could not be fixed, the cost of repairing the dryer, and left the decision up to me. He was very professional, friendly and was not pushy. I definitely will call him again if I have an appliance repair problem. He is the greatest!!!

It went very well. When I called on a Monday, John asked for a description of the problem. He also had me find the make, model number, and serial number of the machine, which I gave to him over the phone. He arrived two days later(the earliest day I had available)and had the appropriate part in hand. He fixed the machine and even offered tips on how to care for the dishwasher(e.g. amount of detergent to use, keep the door open while choosing the cycle, etc.). I figure this fix was about a fifth of the cost of a new dishwasher. This was the third time Mr. Matthew has done work for us. He is professional, knowledgeable, consistent, and reliable. He has now repaired the three oldest appliances we own, so I suspect we won't need to have him back for quite some time. That's a compliment to his good work!
Description of Work: Mr. Matthew repaired a 10-year-old dishwasher that stopped working for no apparent reason.

Less than two years ago I purchased a new washer and dryer (different makes and models - not a pair - but major brand names). Recently, the dryer shuts off prematurely and indicates that the lint filter needs cleaned. But the screen is clean. I had already checked and cleaned the lint trap & vent to the outdoors and thoroughly vacuumed the dryer itself. The dryer continued to shut off prematurely and indicate there was a problem with the lint screen. I called Matthews to schedule a service call. When he called me back, he seemed less than enthused to hear that I didn't have a 'pair'. He wasn't interested in all in obtaining the Model & Serial Number - details I knew would help him to know some of the specs about my dryer. Instead he told me that it's often difficult to resolve these issues. But that he was willing to come out and take a look. He'd call me later. A few days later, he did call -- and again, told me he may not be able to resolve the issue. He told me the electronics on these new machines are sometimes impossible to fix and that the manufacturer specs don't often provide the detail he would need to fix the problem. I asked him point blank if he was saying that he couldn't fix it - and he said "no", he just didn't want me to have unreasonable expectations. Unfortunately, this is the same day I was dealing with a roof leak. I finally called him back and told him to forget about it - that I had some significant water damage to deal with and the dryer could wait. Now that they roof is repaired, I'm ready to focus on the dryer -- but I'll be looking for a different service provider through the List.

WE DO SEE THIS IN SOME SITUATIONS WITH DRYERS WITH ELECTRONIC CONTROLS. THE MISS MATCH WASHER AND DRYERS IS NOOOOOT THE ISSUE! WE WANT TO HELP THE CUSTOMER, BUT WANT TO BE UP FRONT BEFORE WE COME OUT. THIS CUSTOMER MAY JUST HAVE A RESTRICTED VENT. I HOPE THIS CUSTOMER CAN LOOK AT OUR OTHER REPORTS TO SEE THAT WE TRY HARD TO MEET CUSTOMER EXPECTATIONS.

It went great. John was very good about getting back to me to set up the appointment. He was punctual, he cleaned up the area nicely when he was finished, and he was very pleasant and professional. I would highly recommend him.
Description of Work: John took my 15 year old dryer apart, explained exactly what needed to be fixed, told me how much it would cost, and told me the pros and cons of repairing the old one or buying a new one.
