Description of Work: Harry did a great job in explaining what was an issue and what was a concern for our home inspection. I asked a lot of questions and he was not upset or put off on having to answer them. He explained what he was looking for and why. He explained why some of the items I asked about were not issues but I could have a contractor look at it if I was really worried. He also pointed out where he could not complete a through inspection because of lack of access (interior roof line).

Description of Work: My husband and I asked to be shown any concerns they find during inspection. They showed us a few things but when we got the report there was much more. The report was very arbitrary as to what needed attention and what should be monitored. For instance I think a cracked joist that is greater than half the width of the joist which is supporting a deck 10 ft off the ground needs addressing not "monitor as the house ages. Evidence of leakage around the main electrical panel concerns me, as well as "wrong type of Breaker installed" also listed as "items to monitor". I would not hire them again. When I am paying $600 for a an inspection on a home I am hoping to purchase I expect to be told during the inspection what they are finding, which is why I asked for that when scheduling, and repeatedly during the inspection. I want the facts of the findings, stating what is considered a safety hazard but not arbitrary categorizing of electrical issues as monitor. That should be left to me whether it needs to be corrected or monitored.

Thank you for your posting! I wanted to follow up with a few thoughts and address your concerns. The joist on the deck was determined to not be a major issue as it is not a beam which supports the deck and there has been no deflection or signs of movement in that one joist (or the deck for that matter). There were no signs of moisture related issues on the interior of the main electrical panel - the moisture stain you refer to is on the drywall at the lower corner. No other issues were observed with this stain and it was determined to not be a major issue. The breaker in the main panel is not the same manufacturer as the panel, however, it is was found to be secure, safe, and not showing any signs of issues - that is why it was labeled as an Item to monitor. I do sincerely hope, however, that you were able to negotiate the numerous rotted windows, settled sidewalks, improperly constructed deck stairs, electrical issues, mold in the basement, along the many other major, safety, and general concern issues which were discovered during the inspection process. Description of Work: Inspector communicated well on the quote, and showed up promptly (actually early). Inspector was friendly, and offered to show my fiance and I most of the critical items, but did not show us/explain everything. | |The report was very well organized and thorough. Exceeded my expectations. I feel confident that the report presented gave us a better chance at getting the seller to pay for items prior to close.

Dave was early and got right to work. He invited me to accompany him during his inspection, which I did. As he inspected each area, he pointed out and explained each of his findings. He also answered all of my questions and gave a lot of tips. After each area, he would return to his laptop to record his findings and download his digital pictures. He was incredibly thorough and really put my mind at ease. At the end of the inspection, he printed off a copy of his report for me and then mailed electronic versions to myself and my realtor. Working with Dave was an absolute pleasure, and I would highly recommend Cornerstone for your inspection needs.
Description of Work: Cornerstone Inspection came out for a home inspection on a soon to be purchased property. The inspection consisted of a full home inspection as well as a termite inspection.

THE INSPECTOR FOR CORNERSTONE, DAVE M, DID A TERRIFIC JOB. VERY THOROUGH, CHECKED EVERYTHING IN THE HOUSE, EVERY RECEPTACLE, WINDOW, PLUMBING FIXTURE ETC. IN THE PROCESS OF THE INSPECTION HE FOUND A NUMBER OF PROBLEMS, SOME THAT WERE FROM WHEN THE HOUSE WAS BUILT. THE SELLERS (AND THE BUILDER) FIXED ALL OF THE ISSUES SAVING US MUCH MORE IN REPAIRS THEN THE INSPECTION COST. HE PROVIDED US WITH A COMPLETE INSPECTION REPORT AT THE HOME WHEN HE WAS FINISHED. DAVE ALSO ANSWERED A NUMBER OF QUESTIONS REGARDING THE HOME. I WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND CORNERSTONE AND ESPECIALLY DAVE.

CORNERSTONE INSPECTED MY HOME FOR A POTENTIAL BUYER. THE INSPECTOR WAS DISCOURTEOUS TO MY PROPERTY. THERE WAS GRASS AND MUD TRACKED THROUGH OUT THE FIRST FLOOR OF THE HOUSE. THE INSPECTOR LEFT MY OVEN ON AND MY FURNACE TEMPERATURE SET INAPPROPRIATELY. THERE WAS MUD ON MY KITCHEN COUNTERS AND HE APPARENTLY HELPED HIMSELF TO A GLASS IN MY CUPBOARD FOR A DRINK AND LEFT IT DIRTY FOR ME TO WASH. I FEEL THIS COMPANY IS NOT PROFESSIONAL IN THE WAY THEY HANDLE THEIR INSPECTIONS. I WOULD DISCOURAGE OTHERS FROM USING THEIR SERVICES.

THE INSPECTOR OVERLOOKED MANY ISSUES THAT LED TO FUTURE REPAIR COSTS. AFTER WE COMPLAINED ABOUT ONE ISSUE, THEY TRIED TO FIX A BASEMENT LEAK THAT WAS MISSED BY APPLYING A PAINT SEALANT, WHICH WAS A FUTILE, QUICK-FIX SOLUTION. IT NEVER FIXED THE PROBLEM. BEING FROM THE SOUTH, WE HAD NEVER SEEN A BASEMENT. NOW, HOWEVER, IT IS BEYOND ME HOW THEY COULD HAVE MISSED THE TELLTALE LIME DEPOSIT SIGNS OF WATER LEAKS IN OUR BASEMENT; VERY UNPROFESSIONAL. WE LATER LEARNED THAT THE INSPECTOR WHO PERFORMED OUR INSPECTION WAS FIRED BECAUSE OF SOME PERSONAL PROBLEMS WITH THE COMPANY OWNER. THE COMPANY APPEARED TO BE VERY DISORGANIZED AS WELL AS INCOMPETENT IN PROVIDING THEIR SERVICE.
