He was able to accomplish a number of improvements to our systems and continued working until we had the problems or alternative solutions resolved. He finalized the last detail over the phone in the evening. He was patient and pleasant at all times. He answered all of our questions in plain English and not like other computer types we have used. He made suggestions which he thought would be helpful. A follow up phone call and service was also acted upon promptly.
Description of Work: Provided expertise related to wireless connectivity for a laptop. A second computer needed to have Microsoft Outlook made operational with employer network. Another laptop was diagnosed with motherboard problems. A new laptop computer purchase necessitated the installation of several Microsoft Windows products.

Especially when compared to the time we lost when we spent 30 hours futilely trying to do this work on our own before calling him and the fact that we would have needed to go through the hassle and expense of buying an entire new computer without his help. Mark went far beyond "fixing what was broken" to give us comprehensive consulting advice about how to address our problems telling us what equipment and software to buy and how to work everything on our own when he left. Mark was unflaggingly patient and friendly in answering our many, many questions. I could not be happier. I am never going to struggle again with computer set up and repair; I am going to call Mark.
Description of Work: Repaired and restored a computer, recovered data, installed a networked printer and installed a network external drive as well as an automatic back-up system to preserve data. We dropped our computer off to him to reduce the computer repair cost a little and he came to our home for the rest of the work.

I called him a week later to ask him some questions regarding file sharing and some problems with the wireless Internet connection (caused by our own mistake) and he was able to help me correct the problems myself over the phone. The price was around what I expected based on reports from other Angie's List subscribers. Overall, very professional and courteous.
Description of Work: Set up a router and wireless network for our laptop computer which included print/file sharing with our desk top computer. Installed free anti-virus.

Description of Work: We contacted Mark initially re: a virus that had attacked my husband's computer, but realized (after Mark had provided helpful [free!] advice over the phone) that because my husband didn't have the original installation disk, Mark couldn't solve the problem. So I made a new appointment with Mark because of a problem with the speakers on my computer. Mark made (& kept) an appointment only a few days after I called him. When he couldn't solve my "antique" computer's problem by downloading an on-line driver, he accompanied me to a nearby computer store, showed me what to purchase & installed the new sound card [+ a hi-speed USB card] when we returned to my home. When Mark left, I was entirely satisfied with his service and I'm still entirely satisfied a few hours later, now that I've had time to try out the hardware he installed for me.

When he was at the house, he worked efficiently and he explained clearly everything that he was doing. He is very knowledgeable, and very willing to do either simple tasks or ones that require more time. He is one of the most professional people I have encountered in a long time.
Description of Work: Set up one computer with software after it had crashed. Connected it to Internet and networked with printers. Worked on wireless connection with another computer and demonstrated how pictures are installed from digital camera. Installed firewall and protection for both computers.

 + -1 moreMark arrived a few minutes early. He was very willing to remove his shoes after coming in from outside in the snow before walking on our carpet, which was much appreciated. He worked quickly and really seemed to know what he was doing. He was very pleasant and easy to understand when he explained something, was willing to write down information for us to keep and he was quite patient with our endless questions. He had purchased the necessary equipment for networking our computers ahead of time and had accurately chosen exactly what we needed. He had brought everything he needed to do the job.
Description of Work: Mark installed a router and networked our three household computers for high speed Internet service, as well as file and print sharing. He also reinstalled a driver for sound that had been accidentally deleted from one computer, and downloaded and installed anti-virus protection software and Windows Media Player on one computer.

 + -1 moreMark provided excellent service. He correctly diagnosed the real issue. He was also able to recover all our important files, music and pictures which he stored temporarily for us while we replaced the motherboard. He then re-copied our files back onto our hard disk and we were back in business. Mark helped us during a very busy time for him and was available to us after hours for phone consultation, drop off and pick up of the computer so we could be up and running as quickly as possible. I cannot say enough about how knowledgeable, helpful and accommodating he was. And his price is very reasonable as well. I highly recommend him and will most certainly call him in the future.
Description of Work: Our computer stopped operating and we brought it to Mark for diagnosis and data recovery for important files music and pictures that were stored on it. We originally thought it was a hard drive malfunction, but it ended up needing a new motherboard.

The cable company wires hang around the outside of the house and our attempt to hook up a second computer resulted in still another cable stretching around the outside of the house. I called Mark (based on Angie's List reports) to see what could be done to improve this situation. Mark responded to my e-mail immediately (literally) and he came by that afternoon. He was here for an hour and he set up a wireless network, eliminating the need for those cables hanging out there! He explained exactly what he was doing in words that I understood and we made a plan to address my other issues, such as an old printer that won't interface with my new laptop and my security concerns.

 + -1 moreAll in all, he spent about an hour cleaning the hard drive and my computer is like new! He's very professional and doesn't waste time! He asks you what you need and want and then gets right down to doing it. My kind of repair man!!!
Description of Work: My computer was running very slow with all kinds of unwanted spam and pop-up windows. Mark went to work and deleted all the unnecessary programs that were loading that I either didn't use or want. He loaded a free anti-virus software that cleaned up a number of programs that had been downloaded to my computer illegally.

 + -1 moreOverall, I thought this job could have gone a lot better. Mark was good at responding to my call and scheduling a visit. He showed up on time, was polite and professional. Unfortunately, he knows very little about MACs and was unable to refer me to someone who might know more. Mark recommended a two port printer server, which I purchased on his recommendation. When he returned to install it, he was unable to get it to work with both computers. As a result, although I can print wireless from my PC, I must unplug the server and connect the printers directly to get the MAC to print. Considering the result, I thought the price was excessive--especially since a lot of the time was Mark sitting trying a lot of different things he thought might work--instead of reading the directions for the product he had recommended, even though he acknowledged not having installed that product before. But I'm thrilled to have my TiVo back.
Description of Work: The overall project was to get my home computer network, consisting of one PC and one MAC, communicating--including enabling wireless printing to two printers by either computer; cleaning up the hard drive on the PC and fixing my TiVo installation.

 + -1 moreMark was very understanding with our schedule and arrived at 815 pm on a Tues night. He answered all our questions. He has built his own computer so he knows his stuff. He applied the anti-spam-anti-virus, fire wall. It did take longer than the estimated 1.5 hours that he had originally estimated. He said the download(upload?)was taking longer than usual for some reason. He was very patient with my elementary questions. All I really care about is that it is done!!
Description of Work: Consulting services, set up new computer for DSL and printer. Had USB cable in car which we needed for the job and also connected a way for us to talk to him via computer for future trouble shooting. Angies discount given.

Description of Work: I called Mark about setting up computer/printer/DVD/Tivo, etc. after my recent move. Even though he wasn't available when I originally needed him, he offered to come the night before to accommodate me. He was very pleasant and efficient and most importantly--he explained things in lay terms so that I could understand them. A few days later a problem surfaced with the telephone lines that are needed by Tivo to keep the schedule updated. After Comcast and AT&T were unable to assist me, I phoned Mark, who offered to stop by on his way home from another job--turned out to be 11pm. He checked the wall plate, found it was dead and gave me his suggestions on how to handle with the building mgr. and/or AT&T and/or Comcast. They were unable to assist again, so Mark is coming again tonight to install a router, which will enable me to circumvent these problems in the future. He has been EXTREMELY accommodating and fair in his charges. I recommend him HIGHLY--he has been terrific!
