+ -1 moreThey told me they no longer service high rises anymore. The excuse they gave me didn’t seem valid, which I don’t think is good business. I explained there would be no problem with parking. Their reason was that there was no parking and too much trouble dragging the cleaning machine. It is a portable machine and they didn’t have any problems last year. They should have told me up front they don’t service high rises to save me some time, I was disappointed. I don’t like the way they do business.
Description of Work: They came and cleaned my carpets last year and they did a good job. I called to schedule another appointment this year and I am very dissapointed with them.

We were very pleased with their work. There were 10 or 11 men working. They all were pleasant/polite. Kevin, the person in charge, answered all questions. Although the cost was great, they did save our carpet and cut down on our need to replace drywall. Our only complaint was they didn't show up first thing in the morning as expected (my husband was waiting to go into work). It turned out they had a truck break down, and did arrive in a rental truck later. They actually arrived hours BEFORE the rescheduled appointment, but taking into consideration the huge mess in the community following the big rain, Castino did well juggling appointments. I would have liked to give them A even for punctuality, but it wouldn't have been honest.
Description of Work: After our area's big 07/22-23 rain/flood, our wet basement/carpet and floor wouldn't dry out. We called Castino and others. Castino was the first to call back with an appointment. Whereas another company's receptionist (with good intentions) told us to cut out the carpet and get rid of it while waiting for callbacks, when Castino came in, they pulled back the carpet and removed only the wet padding. They also pulled off the baseboard molding and reached under it to check for wet insulation. They ended up only cutting away a small section of drywall near the wettest area, so we could see behind a bathroom wall. They applied antimicrobial to both sides of the carpet and all underneath floors, etc. Then they left powerful fans and a huge dehumidifier for 3 days to dry out the place.

Due to the serious flooding of July 23, 2011, all carpet cleaners and restoration shops were swamped. Castino returned our call and gave us a date which was pushed back several times so the crew arrived three days after the flood.Unfortunately I was gone and my wife had no idea what previous cleanup jobs had cost ($435) or what the carpet cost new ($1800). So she signed off on an estimate that was @2220.60. I was most unhappy anf felt we has been royally shafted. (To put it mildly.) Castino has an interesting method of costing out a job. You pay a base rate for the remediation technician, then in addition you pay an incremental fee by the activity involved; e.g. water extraction, applying anti-microbial agent, set up equipment, decontaminate equipment. The net was that we paid $207 per manhour, plus a service call charge, and equipment rental. My call to Castino got a small reduction to $1800. After all, we had signed off on the estimate.) Nice work if you can get and find an uninformed housewife frantic to get the d*** basement cleaned up.
Description of Work: Extract water from 424 sq. ft. of carpet flooded four days earlier. Apply ant-microbial agent. Dehumidify and dry. DID NOT CLEAN.

+ 0 moreWe were disappointed that it was only 2 men working, so the job took longer, but the drying plaster also slowed them down.
Description of Work: Living room ceiling, walls, baseboards, crown molding, door frames and small hallway to be patched and painted with primer and top coat to match an existing color. Plaster ceiling had extensive water damage from a roof leak as well as a large crack from settling. They patched the plaster ceiling and a few spots on the walls. While they waited for the plaster patches to dry, they did the prep work for the walls. They also took off, painted and put back all the switch plates on the walls so they would match. They took down (and put back) curtains. They moved the furniture to the center of the room and covered everything, including the floors, with plastic and tarps. One experienced man and his hard working helper. The job took longer than expected (3 days instead of 2), but it was just the two of them. Great attention to detail and very hard working team. They did a very good job and we would have them back again.

+ 0 moreThey were prompt getting back to me and giving me an estimate. They welcomed me using the Angie's List discount, which made the job fairly priced. Parts of the job had to be delayed a couple times because of all the rain we have had, but they were quick to keep me advised of the changes. The only strange thing was that when they painted the sealant on the deck, they only did half the deck and then apparently ran out of the product, so left it like that for a day or two, and it got rained on. This didn't seem to have an end effect though. My deck was in terrible shape. It had been many years since I'd had it cleaned. It looks very nice now. Overall, I was very happy with the job.

+ 0 moreMy experience with Castino's was first rate. I think the name of the person who came out was Steve. Simply put, Steve was wonderful. My very expensive down-filled sofa was sorely in need of cleaning (I'm not very domestic) ... hadn't been cleaned in the 4 years I've had it. Steve went over it -- again, and again, and again -- until the water finally came through clear/clean. The same thoroughness applied to my area rug. I won't hesitate to use Castino's in the future.

Description of Work: They cleaned 8 rooms of carpeting plus a carpeted set of stairs with three landings. They also pretreated all dog spots and used a special pet formula for carpet. They also moved chairs etc. I am very pleased with the results.

+ 3 moreEveryone is helpful whether you are talking to their schedulers, billing or repairmen. My renters also spoke highly of them. They clean up after themselves, show up when they say they will and often go beyond what is asked of them.
Description of Work: I have a rental property in Evanston, Ill. I had some problems with previous companies not following thru on work. Since I live out of town, I was looking for a company that was reputable that would do maintainence work within a reasonable amount of time without having to hound them. I believe I have found that company with Castino's. They have done various jobs for me in the past year. They have done stucco repair, painting, handyman type repairs. They have always done a great job with good customer service.

They took my call quickly and were able to accommodate our need for quick turn-around service before the Thanksgiving holiday. They called on the morning of the service to confirm the scheduled time and planned service, then arrived as planned and completed the work very quickly and thoroughly. The stain treatment significantly helped the soiled areas and within 30 minutes he was finished and the carpets were drying.
Description of Work: Carpet cleaning with stain treatment on upper landing and stairs. Several pet and coffee stains had been long set in on upper landing and stairs had not been thoroughly cleaned for 2+ years.

+ 3 moreEverything went great with Castino. I didn't want to spend time selecting tile and colors so I just instructed them to go with something basic and neutral. In three days my room looked better than before. Leak fixed; new tile floor; drywall repaired; walls and trim painted; and interior shutoff valve installed for the hose line (I figured to have this done while they were at my place and had the wall opened up). Everyone was very professional, very responsive, very nice and nobody waste any time. While not the cheapest, they certainly didn't kill me on price and I don't mind paying for high quality work. Sinc ethen, I've had them back for some other minor work and will continue to use them as I fix up my new house.
Description of Work: We had a water leak in the laundry room in our basement which we thought was coming from the outdoor hose spigot because there is no internal shutoff valve. Tony was at our place very early the morning after the day we called (we called at night) to give a quick look and rough estimate, and then he had one of his water guys at our place less than an hour later. They gave the area a thorough lookover, brought out the moisture meter and pinpointed the source. Turned out to be a crack in the foundation. They opened up the wall, showed me everything and explained exactly how they would repair it. I had them repair the crack using a resin which is inserted into the crack. Then they re-tiled the floor (I had them do the entire floor of the room), repaired the drywall, painted the wall and trim (they did all of the trim in the room so it looked good).

+ 0 moreThe initial process took a bit longer than i'd hoped for. They came out right away to check out the place and had an estimate within two days. Working out the contract took a little while, though. I had lots of questions (i tend to be that way) and they would sometimes take a day or so to get back to me. Once the contract was done, materials in, and date set, they were in and out on schedule. Thrilled with the job and the cleanup. Other than the smell of fresh paint, i didn't know they'd been there. When getting estimates, they weren't the cheapest (nor the most expensive), but I just felt that they were the most competent for the money. The only reason I gave them a B for price is because i do think they're more expensive than other people, but I know that I simply don't have the patience for shoddy work or chasing people to wrap things up. Very happy with my choice. I will most certainly go back.
Description of Work: Painting a newly remodelled kitchen using three different colors. Painting a ceiling: coffering with semi-gloss and remainder of ceiling with standard ceiling flat white. Painting a living room, one color. Painting a hallway. Applying walpaper to an accent wall Moving massive radiator and reinstalling in order to best install wallpaper. Related prep work. The wall paper installer was also instrumental in helping me order the right amount of wallpaper. It was high-end stuff, so i wanted to minimize waste as much as humanly possible.

It was not the friendliest service. However, they did a really good job. I thought they were over priced for the size and not being the most professional, they did do a good job. At the end of the day, it's just the work that matters.

The price was higher than other estimates we had received. Since having the estimate, we have received Castino advertisements in the mail almost monthly.

+ 4 moreFast, efficient and the different teams worked welltogether so there was no wasted time
Description of Work: The plumber knocked holes in our walls and cielings which had to be repalired with plaster and plaster board. Also refinished parts of water satin in cielings and walls along alley. This required careful and beautifully smooth patching and reinforcing where some of the holes were large and deep,sanding smooth and painting. It was also amazing to watch how careful they analyzed everything the estimator and done and made suggestions for more improvement. I also used them to paint all the outside porch and garage which required removing paint and repairing some of the bannister. What amazed me the first time was how carefully they cleaned up ALL the scraped paint from the GRASS. They did not leave one piece of cracked paint outside and they werer just as clean working one space at a time on the interior of our house. In al linstances they were on tune, once even calling ahead when traffic and storm was going tomake them late.(wow!). THey accomplished all thejobs we ever used them for on time and in budget. They continually made appropriate suggestions about what else shold be considered. Polite and hard working, they even stayed overtime because they did not want our interior to remain unfinished on thelast day.If these people did root canals, I would used them in a minute.

Kimberly, in the office, was both responsive and helpful, so she earned the company an A for responsiveness. The estimator earned them an F for punctuality. If they came and did an estimate, I would consider them based on my experience with Kimberly, and their other reviews on Angie's.
