The experience with DC was generally good. The salesperson who met with me to discuss the type of blinds I wanted to install was punctual and knowledgeable. He helped me to choose a fabric and was surprisingly good at selecting the color/shade that would work on such a large area in my loft (and not clash with the wall color, fabrics, etc. The shades had to be custom-made and we discussed whether they would be battery-operated or operate on AC/DC power. We agreed that they would be battery-operated because I was somewhat limited with outlets and didn't really want wires running everywhere. When the installer came to take final measurements, he was also very professional, nice, and knowledgeable. However, when the installer returned with the shades to do the installation, I was surprised that everything was designed to run on electrical power rather than batteries. The installer told me that no one had communicated to him that I wanted battery-operated shades. He did tell me that it would be difficult to mount a battery on the larger shades because of the amount of power they needed. After discussing it, I agreed to go with the electrical and I have to say they did a wonderful job of running all the wires so that they're barely noticeable, and working with some limited outlets. I was also surprised that the top blinds were not connected at the bottom as the salesman and I had agreed they would be. Apparently, they couldn't do a single shade for the top windows because the width was too great for that particular fabric, but I didn't expect to get three individual shades after the salesman and I had agreed on a connector at the bottom. Had I known that was what I'd get. I probably would have reduced the width of each individual shade a little bit to make it clear that each was for an individual window and to have some space between each. They still look a little bit strange to me as shades that are separate but touch each other on the sides. My main issue with DC, other than the surprises that came with the delivered product, involved payment issues and the cost of a follow-up call to address a programming issue. I made two payments on the shades and there were problems with processing both because the salesman didn't take down the credit card number properly the first time and the second time, never conveyed the information to their billing department. I had to return several calls from their accounting people to get the payments processed correctly. The job was not cheap by any means with materials and labor coming to about $7500 dollars (and it could have been a little more, I just can't remember with the split payments). The reason I chose DC was because they install Control4-compatible motorized shades and I was about to install a Control4 system from Best Buy. When Best Buy came to do the installation, integrating the shades proved to be challenging because DC didn't leave me the handheld programming remote (I only had an operating remote). While trying to get everything programmed, Best Buy accidentally erased the programming on the longest shade. It took days to reach someone at DC who could assist me (and Best Buy) with the problem. The Best Buy guys called and couldn't reach anyone or get a return call. Finally, I found a number that connected me to a live person at their showroom and that person was helpful in getting us the assistance we were looking for. It turned out to be the original salesman who came back to "re-set" the shade and fix the programming, which he was able to do after an hour. I wasn't thrilled with the cost of that visit, however - it was $179 to come out and re-set the shade (and use the remote control which I'm apparently not entitled to own even though it clearly looks like it should come with the product). They did tell me the cost up front so it wasn't a surprise, but I didn't have much choice other than to pay it because the shade was stuck in the up position and the manufacturer of the motor kept telling the Best Buy guys that it could only be fixed with the magical remote. It seems to me that, given when I paid for the shades and original installation, they could have come out to fix it and make sure it worked with the Control4 system for no charge or a nominal charge. $179 is a bit much, and the Best Buy guys were shocked that DC would nickel-and-dime me like that (particularly when Best Buy did whatever it took and more to get the Control4 system installed over the course of a couple of weeks without every charging me more than I paid initially for the whole system). Overall, I'm happy with the shades but somewhat disappointed that I didn't get exactly what I thought I was paying for and surprised that they would charge me $179 for a follow-up when I wouldn't have needed them to come at all had they left me the remote in the first place (I still don't have it BTW - no doubt that is because any work on the shades will require me calling them and paying them to come out and service in the future).
