After the initial call he never called back or showed up. Then claimed he was near my home and was surprised that his guys hadn't come out to take care of our issue and this took place 10 days prior to my husbands call. He totally dropped the ball on this project.
Description of Work: He was supposed to come over and repair a leak in our stone wall. He was going to put a piece of metal between the stone and siding as a temporary fix to divert the leak.

When I received the initial call from this gentleman, he told me he had a leak somewhere in his basement wall. I informed him that we do not offer waterproofing or foundation work, and gave him the name and phone number of a company who does that work very well. He said they had been there and, "evidently weren't interested in doing the work." I agreed to take a look at the premises, and arrived at his property at precisely the exact time and date we scheduled on March 27 at 8:30 am. I again informed him that I was not qualified to give an expert opinion, but thought I might have one of my installers stop by and try flashing over his brick planter with aluminum. This was a design flaw in the construction, and was likely collecting rain water and depositing it next to his foundation. Nevertheless, I gave one of my installers his name and address and told him to take care of it. Since it was a pretty cold and rainy spring, my installer evidently didn't make it by on the date we talked about. The following week I had an appointment in his neighborhood and drove by his house to see how my installer addressed the problem. I called this customer at once to apologize that the installer had not been there, and was immediately reprimanded. After ending the call, I felt that this customer had expected me to deliver on a project that I really felt uncomfortable with in the first place, and tried to convey during our first conversation. But I was trying to offer him some kind of help. I think anyone can guess why the other company "obviously wasn't interested," and also why his brother, who builds houses for a living, "doesn't have time" to help him either...

I was very impressed with Twin Co from our first meeting in December. Gene came by and talked with us about what we wanted and was very courteous and professional. Since this was our first major project as a homeowner we had a LOT of questions. Gene answered every one of them for us and not one time did I feel as if I was bothering him. The customer service level I expected was well exceeded. After many changes to what we wanted, additions etc the remodel began March 17. Jordan and Cory were on site at 8am ready to begin. I was very impressed with these 2 guys. They came in and treated our home as if it were theirs. Not only that but they informed us of what their plans were for the following day and kept us updated as they went through the day. I cannot speak highly enough of Gene and his crew. Even his admin, Crystal, was great and followed up with us on questions we had. I would suggest that any business that wants to be successful follow the business plan in place for Twin Co. I can definitely see why the majority of their business comes from referrals. I will refer them to everyone I know looking for work to be completed on their homes. Thank you a Gene, Jordan, Cory, and Crystal for making this a very positive experience.

The dates of this service and last contact are an approximate guess. I was requested by Angie's list to share my experience only recently so I have to guess. The work was performed around July or August 2008. again the date and year are only approximate. The owner came and bid the job. The price was better than others I had checked and I knew a couple of other people who had used their service and were satisfied. The materials and the workers arrived on schedule. There were two workers who spoke little or no English so any communication with them had to be done with sign language or a few single simple words. They worked very hard from early morning until dark until the job was done and the area clean. The roof looked good. I had no issues. However, I always paid someone else to clean my gutters and nothing was said until the person who cleaned them a couple of years ago remarked how difficult it was to do the job because the shingles overhang the roof and almost completely cover the gutter in some areas. I got on a ladder and checked. There were places that were almost impossible to clean because even lifting on the shingle you could barely fit a couple of fingers between the shingle and gutter. When I realized the problem I called Twin -Co and informed them of the problem. I asked if someone could possibly come out and trim the edges of the shingles so they were an appropriate amount of overhang and my gutters could be cleaned easily. The owner responded that it had been way too long since the job was done and he was unwilling to fix the problem. Since then I have hired someone to clean the gutters again who did the job but refused the work a second time because it was so difficult. I realize that a significant amount of time had passed between when the work was performed and when the problem was reported. However, I was not aware of the problem because I hired someone to clean the gutters and that person didn't mention it. Only when I hired a different person, did the defect come to light. The problem wasn't one that was caused by time or normal wear and tear. The problem was obviously with the original workmanship. I believe Twin-co should have stood behind their work even though the problem was discovered late. Furthermore, the fix would have been very simple and inexpensive. He could have sent an employee out who could have fixed the problem in an hour with a sharp knife. I would not use this company again, nor would I recommend them to anyone else. Mr. Hand indicates in his response that we went over this problem together in 2011. However, we had no contact in person in 2011. I contacted the office and he sent me a response by mail. There was no problem with the shingle overhang on the old roof. The problem he mentions in his response didn't cause any difficulties with the old roof and if he saw that there was going to be a problem with the overhang, we should have had a discussion about that before the original work was done, As for the overhanging shingles, we are not talking about the shingles slightly hanging over the gutter by an inch or so, In a large section of the back of the house the shingles almost completely cover the top of the gutter. Mr Hand again responded to my review with more of the same. I have since, paid someone else to trim the shingles and fix the problem. The roof is fine now. Thank you.
Description of Work: Removed old shingles and re- shingled roof as well as installing a vent.

Thank you for taking the time to leave us a note outlining the roof work we completed for you on July 29, 2005, and for your kind compliments about the quality workmanship and hard work provided by our installers. The roof work had been completed for over six years when you voiced concern in October of 2011 about the roof edge overhanging the gutter too far to make it convenient to clean out the gutters. I came out to access the situation within a few days and found that the house gutter boards actually recessed behind the existing siding. This would have prevented proper drainage of the roof drip edge into the gutter under normal installation standards, and the original builder may not have had gutters in mind when the house was built. The roof edge generally has to overhang the fascia board by at least 3/4" to 1" in order to keep any water from backing up under the drip edge and damaging the sheeting at the eaves. Due to the fact that your fascia board was already recessed behind the house siding, we really didn't have another option. You may remember that we went over this when I gave you the estimate on October 20, 2011 to correct the problem which included removal of the 5" gutter, installation of new 1" x 6" fascia boards on front and back of house, wrapping the new fascia boards with white aluminum, then installing new gutters and reattaching your existing downspouts. This would have corrected the problem you're experiencing with cleaning your gutters. Until now, I had not had any more contact from you since the estimate of October 20, 2011. I have been in the residential remodeling business for over 30 years, and have a very good understanding of the building process through efforts to remodel older homes such as yours. Many of the older houses which had no overhang (like yours) were usually built without gutters in mind. The basements were there for storage only, and most were damp or wet. In the past 20-30 years, many homeowners of these older buildings have desired to make "living spaces" out of these old basements and installed gutters to help to control the "wet basement" dilemma. However, other issues became apparent with this practice, as in your case. You requested that we 'trim off the edge of the roof with a knife' which, in my opinion, would not have looked very professional, could have caused a leak behind the gutter (and subsequently damaging the original wood siding), voided the roofing material warranty, or maybe all three. Please, accept my apology that I didn't explain this very well at our last meeting. If you need us to put our heads together to try other approaches, we can do that at no cost to you. Since starting this business in 1981, my main focus has been providing homeowners the utmost in quality installation and materials for reasonable pricing. Nearly 80% of my new work comes through additional work for my existing customers, or referrals to others from my customers. I firmly believe that the reason for this is because most people want a contractor who cares enough to give them their money's worth on every project. Please, contact me at my office, online, or by email at your earliest convenience so we can discuss this issue further. Sincerely, Gene Hand, president TWIN-CO, inc.

Terry and Rob did a wonderful job. Courteous, hard workers, on time, clean cut and trust worthy. Gene Hand the owner is very courteous and stands behind his people's work. They have done work for several family members and a complaint. They are coming back in a couple of weeks to put in my new floors both livingroom and tile in my kitchen. Excellent Work!
