Ok, now for the install: They scheduled a Monday & Tuesday as we were told this would be a 2 day job with 2 workers. Monday morning less than one hour before they were set to arrive, I receive a call saying that one of their men had an emergency and no one was going to show up on Monday. Ok, understandable...you can't help that sometimes.. .however, I was assured that on Tuesday 3 guys would show up to get the job done on Tuesday. Tuesday rolls around, The first guy is 1/2 hour late and he is alone. The second guy shows up an hour and half late. And No third guy shows up to work. We received no call from the owner to apologize or anything. In fact, to stay out of the way of the workers, I was in front, mowing the lawn in the afternoon when a third guy pulled in the driveway...assuming it was the third man, I went about my business on the lawn. When I finished the lawn and came in, the first guy, said, "oh that was the boss man that came by". So the boss came by for a few minutes and left, and never crossed the ten feet of lawn to introduce himself or speak to me (the customer) about the progress
For the first hour that they are at my home, the first guy proceeds to go around and tell me all the things he can't do. He claimed he wasn't informed that we had metal door casings and he didn't have metal saw so he's just going to cut around it rather than do it properly and put the wood under the casing (as professionals do). When I told him that was not acceptable and I have a metal saw he can use, he quickly backed off and said no, he will send the other guy to go buy one at Home Depot.
So, guy #2 leaves the job site for an hour to purchase saw that they should have had ready when they arrived. To top it off, guy #2 came late, left in the middle of the job, and then left early without leaving the job complete.
So now by 5 PM, we are down to one guy to do a 3 man job in one day. The guy stayed until 9:30PM. He busting his butt and he didn't take a lunch but really he was moving too quickly to actually do the quality work we expected from a 3 person crew. By 9:00 PM, my spouse and I were going around the rooms and sweeping and cleaning debris, and cleaning up all the sawdust from the front of the house where he had his work station, filled garbage bags etc. This cleanup was meant to be a job for the 3 workers we hired. However, when it started getting really late, we had no choice but to jump in to help or this guy would have been there all night. We even piled his tools by his truck and cleaned up everything so he could just concentrate on finishing the job before it got too late.
When the guy left, we really started looking at the floors. They were beautiful and installed well for the most part. BUT in some places he put it too far from the wall that the base board casing we already purchased will not cover the gaps. (There goes more money out of our pockets to buy new thicker baseboards). He also did not fill in any of the nail holes. He also did not do the stair nose he said he was going to install and several other things because he was complaining so much about it and how late it was... so we said, " Fine forget it, we'll just do the final finishing ourselves".
All in all, the floors are beautiful but the Kara Flooring experience has a lot to left to desired.
Kara Flooring are terrible at:
-measuring properly
- -communication between the boss and the workers as to what is to be expected at the jobsite
- -setting proper expectations and timing for jobs
- -scheduling the proper number of workers to get the job done properly
- -fine detail finishing that truly is the mark of a good professional
In the end though, the job was 95% percent complete when they left the job site when we paid for a job to be 100% complete. They rushed through it, complained about the finishing details, complained how tired they were from a job the day before, and made us really uncomfortable to the point that we just wanted them to leave.
We had no confidence that if we forced the gentleman to stay to "finish" everything, it would have been done very half a** because he was very tired.
The only nice thing I can say is these gentlemen were not rude at all...but far from professional.
