Kara's estimator came out and calculated all the materials I needed to purchase. I then bought from the store. Once materials were available, they installed wood laminate flooring throughout my kitchen/living room/dining room area. Kara took up old carpeting/flooring and leveled the surface. Installed sound deadening padding. Installer was neat and precise. Matching 1/4 round trim installed as part of the job. It looks great! Both estimator and installer showed up when they said they would. I had flooring delivered by the store, but they only delivered to the garage. Unfortunately I have an upstairs condo unit. My husband and I had to carry 37 boxes of flooring upstairs prior to Kara's arrival so that it could acclimate to the indoor conditions before installation. Ask questions of your flooring store if they will move the boxes for you, or pay more for installer to do it.

It was a good experience. It wasn't a big job and they got everything done on time and they were punctual. The quality of installation was good. The guy who came went above and beyond and wanted it to get done in one day. He stayed until 7 O'clock in the evening and he explained to me everything.
Description of Work: We used them for floor installation.

poor communication skills by ONE sales rep He left a message and told me to called the office to confirm the date of install. Every time I called a got a voice mail and would leave a message asking for someone to call back to confirm date they were coming and what I needed to do to prepare. No one ever called back until I left a message I would find another installer and then he called back but used the excuse they have hundreds of clients and 70 install teams going and don't have time to call all customers back. He was rude and belligerent and would not return calls. His only instruction to prepare was to move all the furniture which I did alone because I am single. I couldn't budge the entertainment center and got my sofa stuck in the hallway and nearly killed my back. The sales rep did not give me full information regarding preparing for installation so when the installers came they said they couldn't install as I was not prepared. I had not carried the flooring into the house to acclimate. I had nearly killed myself moving furniture and took off work and would have been prepared had I only known. This delayed the installation and caused me to have more lost work time at my job. Installers did a good job. I had also talked to the sales rep about using a specific creditor and the rep said he would take care of it. It was from a certain flooring store that recommended the installer. When the installer came they asked for a check. I explained they were suppose to charge the flooring store credit card. When I call the 877 number they suggested the person on the other line told me that normally the sales reps send then paper work and this sales rep had neglected to do so. It was worked out to everyone's satisfaction but again the sales rep didn't do his job. The owner of the company, Walter was helpful and apologetic. The installers have installed the floor. When I talked to the rep in the process of all of this he was rude and called me a liar. The floors have not even been in for 24 hours so don't know if other issues will come up or not. If you deal with this company, only talk to Walter the owner or else use someone else. Walter ,the owner was polite and helpful and promised to talk to the sales rep, the installers did their job and were respectful, polite and professional. The floors look good and a few days will tell if it is properly installed. Unfortunately after the sales rep was so rude you cant take back all the unnecessary stress

The original installation took about twice as long as originally estimated. Two workers did the installation. One told us that this was his first week on the job. The other was physically almost unable to do the work and had to spend most of the day laying on the ground and scooting on his belly because his knees were too sore to stay in any other position while installing the flooring. After the initial installation the floors quickly started to form gaps between boards, and some of the thresholds came loose. After numerous calls back to Kara Flooring and photos of the problems sent via email they sent a different team out to fix the problems. The new team pointed out several areas where the original installers took shortcuts or installed things incorrectly. Unfortunately, the floors continue to shrink more than two years after the original installation. New gaps continue to form between boards every few months. I am not sure if this is a defect in the floors or still an installation problem. However, whenever I would call Kara Flooring it would take weeks to get my phone call returned and usually months to schedule a date for someone to come out and correct the problem.

Kara Flooring's service is mediocre at best. They first came and made the measurements to let us know how much flooring and supplies we would need to order from lumber Liquidators. Walter, the owner came and he was very personable and knowledgeable. However when he emailed me the estimate, he neglected to put anything on the estimate save for the flooring. I had to call him back and get the measurements for all the door jams, glue, transitions, vent covers, underlayments etc. I got the distinct impression that he couldn't remember the measurement he made and didn't write it down and was randomly estimating and throwing numbers at me. Nonetheless, I wrote down what he told me and made the order with Lumber Liquidators. It turns out, on the day of the install, he had ordered too many of the wrong T transitions and not the right amount of door jams. Also the wood vent covers he told me to order were the wrong size. If I return these items to Lumber Liquidators, I will have to pay a 30% restock fee..so there's unnecessary money out of my pocket for his mistakes. if he had taken a few extra minutes when he was in my home and properly write things down on the estimate order, this could have been avoided. Ok, now for the install: They scheduled a Monday & Tuesday as we were told this would be a 2 day job with 2 workers. Monday morning less than one hour before they were set to arrive, I receive a call saying that one of their men had an emergency and no one was going to show up on Monday. Ok, understandable...you can't help that sometimes.. .however, I was assured that on Tuesday 3 guys would show up to get the job done on Tuesday. Tuesday rolls around, The first guy is 1/2 hour late and he is alone. The second guy shows up an hour and half late. And No third guy shows up to work. We received no call from the owner to apologize or anything. In fact, to stay out of the way of the workers, I was in front, mowing the lawn in the afternoon when a third guy pulled in the driveway...assuming it was the third man, I went about my business on the lawn. When I finished the lawn and came in, the first guy, said, "oh that was the boss man that came by". So the boss came by for a few minutes and left, and never crossed the ten feet of lawn to introduce himself or speak to me (the customer) about the progress For the first hour that they are at my home, the first guy proceeds to go around and tell me all the things he can't do. He claimed he wasn't informed that we had metal door casings and he didn't have metal saw so he's just going to cut around it rather than do it properly and put the wood under the casing (as professionals do). When I told him that was not acceptable and I have a metal saw he can use, he quickly backed off and said no, he will send the other guy to go buy one at Home Depot. So, guy #2 leaves the job site for an hour to purchase saw that they should have had ready when they arrived. To top it off, guy #2 came late, left in the middle of the job, and then left early without leaving the job complete. So now by 5 PM, we are down to one guy to do a 3 man job in one day. The guy stayed until 9:30PM. He busting his butt and he didn't take a lunch but really he was moving too quickly to actually do the quality work we expected from a 3 person crew. By 9:00 PM, my spouse and I were going around the rooms and sweeping and cleaning debris, and cleaning up all the sawdust from the front of the house where he had his work station, filled garbage bags etc. This cleanup was meant to be a job for the 3 workers we hired. However, when it started getting really late, we had no choice but to jump in to help or this guy would have been there all night. We even piled his tools by his truck and cleaned up everything so he could just concentrate on finishing the job before it got too late. When the guy left, we really started looking at the floors. They were beautiful and installed well for the most part. BUT in some places he put it too far from the wall that the base board casing we already purchased will not cover the gaps. (There goes more money out of our pockets to buy new thicker baseboards). He also did not fill in any of the nail holes. He also did not do the stair nose he said he was going to install and several other things because he was complaining so much about it and how late it was... so we said, " Fine forget it, we'll just do the final finishing ourselves". All in all, the floors are beautiful but the Kara Flooring experience has a lot to left to desired. Kara Flooring are terrible at: -measuring properly -communication between the boss and the workers as to what is to be expected at the jobsite -setting proper expectations and timing for jobs -scheduling the proper number of workers to get the job done properly -fine detail finishing that truly is the mark of a good professional In the end though, the job was 95% percent complete when they left the job site when we paid for a job to be 100% complete. They rushed through it, complained about the finishing details, complained how tired they were from a job the day before, and made us really uncomfortable to the point that we just wanted them to leave. We had no confidence that if we forced the gentleman to stay to "finish" everything, it would have been done very half a** because he was very tired. The only nice thing I can say is these gentlemen were not rude at all...but far from professional.
Description of Work: I was hooked up with Kara Flooring through Lumber Liquidators. We purchased prefinished hardwood for a long hall and engineered hardwood for a lower level family room. Kara Flooring installed all the flooring we purchased from Lumber Liquidators.
