Mike started off very receptive and helpful. Although his assessment of the cause of the problem (outside the failed ejector pump) just didn't make sense to me. He was blaming the excess flooding due to how the 1) exterior sidewalk settling, 2) a raised garden and a 3) front drain pipe for the additional problems. He said by trade he was a plumber and tried to convince us this was our source of problems. He was willing to work with our condo's insurance company to get these extra paid for to a tune of $18,000. I continued to talk with all kinds of contractors and finally determined our building needed to be resealed & tuck pointed (split face block)- which Made Sense. After 2 months of waiting on the insurance, we were only awarded the amount to fix the drywall etc. By that time, Mike introduced me to his new "partner" Steve to take over the smaller jobs like ours. After weeks of waiting (now November) , we were finally on our way, although the original drywall guy, Mario, who did a careful job to remove the drywall,l was not the installer. What resulted was the new drywall was poorly matched to the remaining drywall that showed obvious seams and bowed surface. The new installers left a dirty work site and I repeatedly had to call both Steve & Mike back. All h*** broke loose right before they came back when Steve tells me that Mike isn't paying his guys. Turns out Steve is a subcontractor and poor Mario who ripped out our drywall in Sept hadn't been paid (now November). He asked me to stop payment on the check (which I thankfully did) and an all-out war between Steve & Mike began. It was so much Drama I had to at one point get both of them on a conference call and yell at them for being so unprofessional for putting a client in this position. In the end, we got lawyers involved and were able to get Lien Waivers signed by Mike & all his subcontractors (A MUST for any job) but we were stuck holding the imperfections of the crappy job. Mario was suppose to finish up the last of the job (paint) before he got FINALLY paid but since the crappy drywall installer would not come back to finish the job, we ended up paying Mario to fix what he could for another $300 (I do recommend him- honest guy). Overall, Mike at Titan talked a big game, but he was unprofessional in some many ways (not showing up or showing up late, talking about OTHER customers finances & problems, not paying his contractors even a portion to get them to do the job right, doing crappy work and causing us a LOT of DRAMA). Oh, and I found out that the job probably had close to $3000 worth of profit (according to Steve) in a $6850 total cost. Stay away.
Description of Work: Due to the large Chicago rain Sept 2008, our finished basement backed up with about 2" of water in duplex down condo. Titan Midwest removed and replaced 2 feet of bottom drywall in basement, installed & painted baseboard approximately 1000 sq feet.
