First, diagnosing the check engine light was pretty high when I could get that done for free. In which I had found out when I got a second opinion on my check engine light. Their policy on if the price of diagnostics will be deducted or added on if I choose them to do the work is not clear before I received the diagnosis. The guy that did the diagnosis gave a long spill about why I have to charge for diagnostics and how it is common sense for him to charge the fee regardless, which wasn't necessary. Clearly at that point he could take advantage of the situation when service was already done. From my experience there are places that will deduct the diagnosis fee if you choose to elect to get the work done through them.
After the diagnosis, he explained his findings stating that he wasn't sure if it's the catalytic converter or the sensors. So he recommended that I replace the sensors first in which there are two of them. He stated that one was bad but how it works is that if you replace one sensor then you would need to replace the other because they must be installed in pairs. At that point, I became really skeptical. Matter of fact, I became skeptical when he wasn't sure which part needs to be replaced. The total amount for the sensors were about $200 each. I decided to go do my own research, those sensor are not $200. They were half that price. Another thing that I needed done was the flex pipe that is attached to the catalytic converter in which he stated that he wouldn't be able to do for it would need to be wielded in and he doesn't do wielding work.
Therefore, I ended up going to another place. They replaced my flex pipe and stated from the diagnosis (diagnosis was free by the way) that a code came up for a bad catalytic converter. I asked them about sensors and they said that there weren't a code that came up for the sensors.
I was so glad that I went to to another place. They were very transparent and saved me from spending a lot more money for unnecessary parts and labor. They did the diagnostic right in front of me and told me right away what was wrong. Alpha had to research after doing the diagnosis.
Don't know if it's Alpha's lack of experience with Catalytic converters or if this guy was out to milk me for my money. Regardless, I didn't feel comfortable of the service that I received from that place. Although the lady receptionist is very nice, the guy that did the diagnosis didn't do me any justice with the service. I hope this help for those that are in similar situation.
"Our diagnosis policy is as follows:::::: It is 79.99 for the diagnosis of the vehicle, to find out what is wrong with the vehicle. Then, we work up the estimate and present the estimates to you. If you choose the repairs the diagnosis TIME is APPLIED to the TOTAL balance....Plain and simple English.....If you decline the repairs, YOU are still responsible for the diagnosis time..... I don't work for free!!! I have bills and other employees that need paychecks....I don't think this client works two hours at her job and then the boss says "sorry I am not paying you!" Second O2 sensors come in all sorts of price ranges, but we ONLY install OEM style O2 sensors at our shop. NOT UNIVERSAL ONES that are extremely cheap...We pride our self in FFV...Fixed, First, Visit! Your Exhaust System was so rusted out at the flex pipe that a properly equipped MUFFLER shop, could perform the repair at a better cost. That is their specialty! I no longer have a bender to do exhaust work. I only do bolt on. I am sorry the customer didn't understand the time spent in performing the diagnosis. Instead, maybe I could've just installed a catalytic convertor on it and called it a day? An electrical sensor will fail first, before a NON-moving object, such as a catalytic convertor. I suppose the Client wanted a different out come. I DO NOT cut corners! I am also VERY offended the client would actually believe I would take advantage of her simply because she is FEMALE!! The majority of my clients are female! I actually take the time to explain any and all repairs to my clients... MALE OR FEMALE!"
"Dear [member's name removed] I'm very sorry your visit with us was unsatisfactory. Your chief complaint was a noise being heard in your brakes. In regards to your brakes being cleaned and adjusted... That is something that is done more than you'd think. Also, when the owner took the vehicle for a test drive AFTER he cleaned and adjusted the brakes, he noticed the other issues that needed to be addressed on the vehicle. Hence the reason why he took the time to work up estimates for the other repairs needed. Each estimate may have seemed like the dollar amount was going higher and higher. Your vehicle is a 2002. There are parts on the vehicle that are original! Therefore, when a vehicle is neglected, repairing all that is wrong with it can be pretty pricy! Again, I apologize if you were not satisfied with our services."

were very professional with the estimation process. They worked with me on my suspension repair and gave me a very good price on parts. I know the price was good because Ipriced the parts myself.
They worked with me on making a extended warrenty repair as well. They chareged me and then faxed for payment on remaining portion for my axle repair. Robert was very paitinet with me and my needs.
I am so releived I replaced my struts and my axle. I really needed all the repairs at once.

He gave me a diagnostic for my vehicle and did not give me a discount, even though the article said he would give seniors a discount. He said he thought the hoses were blocked up. He gave me an estimate for both services that might need to be done.
I made an appointment for the next Saturday, and it was the same situation where he was about 10 minutes late this time.
I think he put my car on the back burner while he worked on other people's cars. I think he prolonged my job. The whole job was a little over 300 dollars. I will not take my car back to him since he was too expensive and since he helped regular customer more than he did me.
"I am sorry that Customer, feels he has had a bad experience. The tardiness was on behalf of local trains and traffic. Out of my control. I went beyond my means to do research on his complaint, stayed after hours and spoke with other master tech's and shops. Even spent an hour on the phone with Nissan to resolve his issue. Plus he doesn't mention that we took half his dash apart at , No Charge, to look further into his complaint. Also he has had his car taken to numerous other shops and they too, have not fixed his complaint. So, I feel that since we where unable to fix his complaint and found no logical reason for his complaint, he is bitter with us. My apologies... I am only human..."
"Thank you for your kind words, Member! We appreciate your business and look forward to seeing you here again in the future for any needed auto repairs!"

They performed the nspection of vehicle and found an oil leak seen from behind the timing belt covers. Needed to remove the the timing belt cover to inspect closer. Suspected worn cam and crank seals. Injected dye into the engine of the car to determine where the leak(s) were. Also, they degreased the engine.
I received an estimate of $1800 to repair. Since the car is 20 years old, I asked if I could leave the car until Monday afternoon when I could pick it up. They said no problem. This conversation took place after the normal Saturday closing time.
On Monday I came to pick up my car. When I tried to start it, it wouldn't. First time in 20 years. They assisted and got the car started. I began to drive away but the car stalled as I was exiting the parking lot. I could not re-start the car and had to call the motor club for a tow home.
"Thank you, Member! We are glad to help you with your vehicle repairs. We look forward to seeing you again!!"
When I got the car back, it was clean (they had washed it), and the engine looked amazing. He told me that acceleration would be improved and he wasn't kidding! The car drove like it was brand new! Acceleration was so powerful that I told him, "If I get a ticket, your responsible!" I can't tell you how happy and impressed I am by Rob's knowledge about cars and his professionalism. I depend on my car so much and its nice to know that I can count on someone to tell me what my car needs. Even though I spent more money than I expected right know, I know first hand that my car is in great shape now, which will prevent any major problems in the future, thanks to Rob and Alpha Auto Repair. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone who wants to keep their car for a long time.
"Thank you so much for your review! We greatly appreciate your business and look forward to serving you in the future."
