Dan came out promptly and gave me an estimate. The work was scheduled and also done promptly. I forget the name of the gentleman who did the work. But he was very courteous, nice and explained everything to me. Very pleasant to deal with including Dan. We did have minor issue in the shower where some of the caulking came loose and mold formed. I called and Sir Grout came out quickly. The same gentlemen took care of the issue.
Description of Work: Our large walk in shower in our master bathroom had mold growing along the grout/caulk. Also, there was cracking of the ceramic caulk around the whirlpool tub in the master bathroom as well as 3 other bath tub areas. Sir Grout, came and did the work. The work was done in a timely, professional manner. They also cleaned up nicely!

I am happy with the guys who showed up with the estimate and the guy who did the actual work. I don’t know about the price since I did not compare. They were here for 5 hours. They are the only company out there which does this kind of work. They were here when they were supposed to be and they were very professional. I was comfortable with them in my house. I would use them again in the future.
Description of Work: I used Sir Grout to work on two showers. They power steamcleaned, removed old mould & cork and repainted the grout to make it look like new and it’s kind of done instead of replacing the tiles. Once done, they put a sealant so that it’s helps to keep the tiles clean and it’s good for another 20 years.

The owner of the company was able to fit us into his schedule during the fourth of July holiday and was very helpful in providing answers to some of my questions. He also called 6 months after the work was done to follow-up and even sent his representative in to do some small touch-up work!

While the person who did the service was great the actual grout failed. We've had to have them come back already to fix the floor because the grout is chipping away and the color seal didn't work properly. Now it's chipping for the third time and we aren't sure what to do. I wouldn't use them again because I paid $800 for a service that didn't hold up more than a few months.

I have contacted the customer to go out and personally take a look at the issues with the work. Product failures are rare but do happen and this is why we warranty everything that we do. Once I see the issues I will send my technician back out to repair the issues and possibly use a different technique of repair if needed.

To be honest, my wife was home when they were doing the work but the finished product was good. We thought that initially, it sounded like they were going to get the grout to a bright clean color by more cleaning or repairing some grout and in the end they did do some scrubbing and cleaning, they didn’t really do any repairs or there wasn’t any damage. In the end it really seemed like in order for them to get it to that final finished look, it was more of like a grout stain, almost like they were painting the grout and after that then they try to sell you their special grout cleaner, which my wife did buy a jug of it. The reason they wanted to use that grout cleaner is if you use a regular beach cleaner, like a Mr. Clean, they state that those types of cleaners actually stain the grout. They state that their cleaner does not stain the grout. Well, my thought is that their cleaner is mostly water and if you use it, it removes the painting on the grout. I by accident was cleaning the floor in the bathroom and I squired a little bit of that around the edge of the base of the toilet. I was wiping it off and little bit of it got on the grout, when I wiped it, it took the stain kind of stuff off and it was kind of dark looking grout again. It doesn’t seem like you can properly disinfect the floor in your bathroom because you are going to have to use their product, it is mostly water, and that is kind of gross. It looks really good but the underlying way to get to that look to me is not the best way to do it. My wife was cleaning on her hands and knees and she was spending hours and hours and hours, using a mix of Comet and water, using the paste and scrubbing it thoroughly. I went through many, many brushes and that was literally for the bathroom floor and not the whole hallway in the first floor. However, she got it whiter than they got it with their scrubbing machine so in the end it looks great. The hallway we can clean with their jug of stuff but for the bathroom floor, I would still prefer that I have it properly sealed more like bleach cleaner to disinfect the floor. In then end, the hallway does look really good and my wife has been using their jug but it is a lot of elbow-grease to get it cleaned because it is not really like soap or something.
Description of Work: We used them for grout cleaning service.

Thank you for your feedback. I will contact you to go over all of the details I will write below so you understand the process and maintenance procedures for your home. I try to be very thorough with my explanation of why things are done in the process we use during my estimate but I know that it can be a lot of information to take in all at once, or that both husband and wife may both not be home at the time of the estimate. Let me just give a quick overview for the other members reading this review. We first spray a non toxic cleaning solution on the floor. This is the same cleaner that we sell to customers so we know it works very well when used properly. More caustic cleaning solutions exist but this one is safe for people, pets, babies, etc, so it is the one that we chose to use in customers homes. After letting the solution dwell on the surface we do a surface cleaning of the grout and tile with our scrubbing machine and/or commercial strength vapor steam cleaner to prep the surface and remove surface dirt. Then if the grout is cracked or damaged it is repaired. Once the area has been cleaned the surface may not be 100% uniform in color but it is very porous and this allows our color seal to bond to the existing grout surface. The color sealants are applied by hand to each individual grout line and they are formulated by chemists with resins and concrete hardeners to strengthen the grout and completely seal the grout. These sealants have been tested in labs to last for over 20 years when maintained correctly. Once we are finished we offer our cleaning solution as a convenience to the customer since it is the best solution for maintaining the color seal but you can use whatever you want to clean the surface of the grout. We guarantee the colorseal against failure when so if you ever have issues like you described we will come back to fix the issue for no cost. I have listed below the do's and don'ts for ceramic tile and the reasons for each. Do’s and Dont’s of Ceramic Tile Grout Care Do use a Neutral pH cleaner for periodic and regular maintenance of your tile and grout. I.E. Sir Grout pH Neutral maintenance cleaner, ( this cleaner was developed by the chemists who make our color sealant to prolong the life of the sealant while being safe for use in the home). Other pH neutral cleaners are available in tile shops and home improvement centers. These solutions use surfactants, and emulsifiers to cut through dirt and grease and suspend them in water to be wiped away. Don’t use vinegar and water for cleaning tile. Vinegar is acidic and will damage grout and bleach its color, vinegar also has no cleaning agents in it so it does not remove dirt. A neutral pH cleaner is a better choice. Don’t use muriatic acid or other acidic cleaners- it is dangerous to people, pets, tile and grout. Don’t use cleaners with bleach or ammonia other strong chemicals on a tile application. It is acidic, corrosive and toxic and has the same effect on tile and grout as vinegar. (tilex, bleach, 409, etc) Don’t clean the surface of tile with abrasive cleaning powders. They will scratch the tile and wear down glazed and grout surfaces prematurely. Don’t use steel wool on tile - this is another way to scratch the tile surface. (comet, soft scrub, etc) Don’t use dish detergents, they will leave a soapy residue and cause dullness. (dawn, palolive, etc) Remember…….. If your grout has been sealed with a clear sealer, prompt clean-up of spills and regular cleaning with a true Neutral pH cleaner will help prolong the life of the sealer. To maximize protection, sealer will need to be applied every year. If your grout has been sealed with a color sealer, regular cleaning with a true Neutral pH cleaner will keep your floor looking it’s best for many years to come. To address disinfecting a floor, you can use a very diluted bleach, lysol or chemical of you choice to disinfect but disinfecting an area only lasts for a moment since once the surface is walked on or used again the spread of organisms begins again. Most chemicals are so potent that a 10:1 water to chemical ratio will still be more than enough to disinfect and this will limit your exposure to the harsh chemicals as well. If you read the msds sheets on most common household cleaning solutions you would never want to use them again since they can be very damaging to your health with prolonged exposure. If you have any further questions feel free to call our office or email me directly, dan@sirgrout.com, it is my goal to keep our customers as informed as possible to keep our work lasting for years to come.

We called to have Sir Grout come out for an estimate to replace the sealing/strip around the tub surround and to seal a newly laid cerarmic tile bathroom floor in my parent's home, which we were getting ready for sale. Justin came out the following week for the estimate and arrived at the scheduled time (he also called as I had requested, to let me know he was only a few minutes away.) He was very friendly and courteous, and reviewed with us what services would be done. He let us know that the job actually fell below their $350 minimum (he said we should have really ben made aware of that when we called). He asked if there was anything else they could work on to bring the job up to the minimum rate so we wouldn't have to pay ror more than the job actually cost. He noticed the slate entryway when we arrived and suggested that they strip the wax and clean the grout and re-seal the floor, which would bring the total job actually over the minimum, but since we ere Angie's lIst customers, we would be given a discount to bring the price back down to the $350. We agreed on doing all three jobs for this price, and Justin was also able to get us an appointment the very next day, as they had an opening the following afternoon., (This was perfect as the house was oing on the market a couple days later.) Jiustin actually came out himself the next day - again right on time, to do this job himself. The bathtub grout job which seemed simple at first, turned into a much longer project as the original owner used epoxy and cement to adhere the sealing strip around the tub. Justin put in a lot of time to remove the strip and all the cement resideu off the acrylic wall surround without scrathing it. We couldn't be hapier on how well the job turned out - the tub surround looked brand new and the bathroom floor looked great. We were also very impressed on how nice the slate floor in the the entryway turned out. It probably had not been seriously cleaned in 20 years and there were colors that came out that we were not even aware were there. We were very pleased with the whole job, and found Justin to be very personalble and professional. We would definitely use them again, and recommend Sir Grout to others.
Description of Work: Caulking tub/shower surround (re-caulked all shower joints, vertical and horizontal incluting tub/floor joint. Removed all existing caulk - vapor steam all right angle joints to kill any residual mold and mildew) Clean and clear seal new batroom ceramic tile floor (machine scrub clean w/non toxic floor cleaner, clean and sanitize all grout lines with vapor steam, wet vac and clear seal.) Slate tile floor- strip and seal (Strip floor and apply desired sealant. Floor stripper to strip down the coating on the tiles and grout. Once stripped, vertical scrub entire floor and steam clean grout lines to achieve desired look. Once clean, apply stone enhancing sealant to entire surface - 2 coats.)

To be honest, I was skeptical that this would make much of a difference. But as I'm getting ready to put my condo on the market, I need all the help I can get. The work looks fantastic - there is no longer any evidence of mildew or wear in the shower. And they took the time to match the caulk so it would blend in perfectly. After they left, I noticed one part of the floor where the grout needed to be fixed that I hadn't discussed with Dan during the estimate. No questions asked, Dan sent someone back to patch up the last part. Sir Grout was professional, on-time, and the price was exactly what they had provided in the estimate. I highly recommend Sir Grout.
Description of Work: Sir Grout cleaned and sealed my stone shower and floor in a small bathroom in my condo. There were a few tiles that were wearing away and had visible mildew in them. Also, there were places around the tub where the grout was pulling away from the tile and needed to be re-caulked. Sir Grout expertly patched and sealed the tiles and re-caulked around the whole tub.

We didn't have anyone come out to give us an estimate - just called and described the project. The day of the job, 2 guys were supposed to meet at our house to do the job, but one had a scheduling conflict. The first guy did some prep work and needed to come back another day to finish since he didn't have all the tools. The owner did apologize for the inconvenience. There were a couple small problems after the job. There was a haze on some of the trim tiles. When we mentioned it to the installer, he wiped it down quickly, but it was still there after it dried. We were concerned that it would dry on, so we spent an hour scrubbing the trim pieces after he left. He also forgot to caulk around the tub spout, which we didn't notice until the next day. Overall the tub looks good - caulk is even and smooth. My only other concern is that now that grout has been resealed and recolored, we're not supposed to use normal bathroom cleaners - nothing acidic, no ammonia. Will have to see how difficult it is to keep clean.

Thank you for the feedback, I am sorry their were issues with scheduling. I was a bit ambitious trying to get this customer in before Christmas during the busiest time of the year. When we were unable to complete the job I made sure to accommodate their schedule and get the job completed during there soonest availability. For maintenance of the shower, the truth about bathroom cleaners is that no acidic or ammonia based cleaners should ever be used on grout. They damage the grout and reduce the life of the grout sealed or unsealed. We suggest changing cleaning practices to our customers to extend the life of the work we complete as well as the rest of the grout and tile in their homes. The best way to keep shower clean is to dry the walls with a towel or squeegee after each use to reduce moisture and prevent soap scum from drying on the surfaces. Harsh cleaners can be used but they are not recommended as they will reduce the effectiveness of our sealants with extensive use.

I liked the work that was done although some of the work was sloppy. However, an appointment was scheduled on New Year's Eve day and no one showed up. Also, after the work was finished, no one from Sir Grout ever contacted me to see if I was satisfied until now when this review was posted.

Thank you for your feedback. This job was bid and scheduled while I was out of town visiting my family for the holidays. My manager who did the estimate did not assign an employee to the job on our server so that caused the scheduling error and was the reason no one arrived on the day of the job. I saw an office call come in from the customer the day of the job and contacted my manager to reschedule the customer. This scheduling error was the fault of Sir Grout and we have contacted the customer to arrange for a follow up visit to address any issues with the work and offer compensation for the poor schedule management. The customer has accepted this resolution and hopefully will update his review once we have resolved the issue further. I will be taking feedback from this review and making sure to follow up with all jobs after they are completed. We have a current system in place but it broke down during to the busy holiday season coupled with my absence from the company during my trip. Follow up emails and phone calls will be an area that will be addressed and improved going forward this year.

The rep that came out to perform the estimate appeared to be very professional and courteous, and promised that they would be able to color sealed all our 1X2 tile grout lines in our master bath (the shower floor was especially badly stained). The other companies that we've talked to pretty much all said that they won't be able to do color seal due to the 1X2 tiles. So we decided to go with Sir Grout, even though they were quite expensive. We scheduled for Sir Grout to come out to do the work one Saturday. The person never showed up at the scheduled time. We called the rep that came out to do the estimate as well as the main office line, and no one answered the phone or returned our calls. We wasted an entire Saturday waiting for this guy who never showed up. We finally received a call back from the guy who was supposed to come out to do the work 2 days later claiming that he had a medical emergency. While we understand that things like this happen, the company should have called us back to let us know what was going on. That's the minimum professional courtesy. Anyway, we decided to give them a second chance, and rescheduled for a later day for the guy to come out to do the work. He was late, but he did show up and did the work. The work was not done very well. The color seal applied to the shower floor came off almost immediately, and the caulk applied was really thick and messy (not very neat line at all). So we had to call and have the guy came back out to fix the color seal problem, and guess what, the guy didn't show up again! We received a call from him about 3 hours later saying that he's at our place, but by then, we already left to run errands (we weren't going to sit around wasting another Saturday waiting for him). We called Sir Grout to complain, and demanded that they send a different guy to fix the problem. While they did eventually apologize for the unprofessionalism, there was no other compensation for our frustration or loss of time. They just rescheduled for a much later date for a different guy to come out to address the issue. The second guy they sent was punctual, which was a major improvement. The first attempt at fixing the peeled off color seal didn't work entirely. The color seal on one small section of the shower floor came off again immediately the first time we used the shower. They did not want to come back immediately to fix it, instead saying that we needed to wait a couple months to see if any of the rest of the work failed. The guy came back a second time to fix the issue, and so far it appears that it's working (we've been using the shower for about two weeks now). Overall the work looks nice, but the process to get there was not.
Description of Work: Deep clean ceramic tiled bathroom floor and walls (all 1x2 inch ceramic tiles), remove any residual mold and mildew, and color sealed all grout lines. Also re-caulk all shower joints in the same bathroom.

Thank you for your feedback. I am very sorry for your experiences at the beginning of this project. I am the owner, and I was hit in the face with a softball bat while standing in the on deck circle, while playing softball, a day or two before the job took place. The bat shattered my cheek bone, broke my nose, and my jaw in 3 places, and my wife rushed me to the emgency room. I am in charge of putting everything on the schedule and updating the calendar. I had not updated the calendar for this customers job before the game and after 2 days in the emergency room I did not realize this. Due to this my crew was not aware of the first appointment. Obviously this is our fault and there was a break down in our communication but these were extraordinary circumstances. I was unable to work for nearly a month as I recovered from the injury and reconstructive surgery. While I was in recovery my crew shared my responsibilities but there was certainly less organization since I was not there to delegate and help when schedules did not go as planned. I believe this may have been the cause to the poor follow up visits initially. As for the sloppy work I can only guess that this may have been a case of rushing due to overscheduling by my crew as well. Shower floors can be very tricky sometimes to get the sealant to bond with since they have large amount of soap and other surfactants that dry and harden in the grout lines forming a wax like barrier over the grout lines. This barrier must be completely removed in order for the sealant to bond with the floor grout. When the issue was brought to my attention I decided that it would be best to allow any and all issues with the floor to present themselves before fixing them so that the customer would not be inconvenienced with additional visits if the sealant continued to deteriorate. After making sure the problem areas were not getting any worse I scheduled with the customer to fix the floor. I have spoken with the customer and they are happy with the final product and I am waiting to hear back on my offer to meet to discuss a discount on their job due to my companies short comings. We did not hold up the values that I discussed with the customer on while I was there initially, so it is only fair to meet with them and come to an agreement on a revised price.

I contacted Dan the owner by email. He responded quickly and sent Justine out within a few days to look over the job. Justine did an estimate and I scheduled the work to be done approx. 2 weeks later. All the work listed above was done and done well. Alex & Phil came ontime as they had a very long drive to our home. They worked well together and were very professional. I only have one disappointment with the service. The Master Bath shower is separate from the whirlpool tub. I requested that they match the grout they would be replacing in the shower to the color of the grout on the attached tub. They assured me they would do this. They left awhile later to visit the Home Depot to pick up the grout and supplies they needed. They came right back and set to work - I left them to do their job and didn't check the color of the grout they purchased. I don't know if they really believed this color would blend or if maybe the Home Depot didn't have in stock the color that was really needed to be purchased and they thought this color would work, but the the color they used in my shower was "off white" which has a beige/yellow tone to it. Unfortunately, the grout on the tub is a gray/frosty white. Now the tub grout makes the grout in the shower look beige and the shower grout makes the grout in the tub look very white. When they finished I verbalized my concern but was told that the grout was still wet and that it would blend with the tub grout when it dried & cured. Well, it's been a week. It definitely lightened when it dried but I am disappointed with the grout color and I wish I would have insisted on approving their color choice of grout before application. My suggestion to Sir Grout would be to have a color palette for customers to choose from similar to paint chips at a paint store. Even though I don't care for the grout color, the work was done well. Just a word of caution, make sure you approve of the grout color and not blindly trust that they know how to match color. UPDATE: Within 24 hours of the report, the owner of the company Dan, sent me an email stating that he wanted me to be 100% satisfied. They came back out on 12/13 to do a color sealing to change the color of the grout which solved the problem of mismatched grout color. I live quite a ways away and they made a special effort to come and do that and satisfy their customer. I'd definitely use them again.

I thought that the old grout would be totally cleaned in the washing process, but that does not happen. The grout became cleaner but there were still many uneven parts that were darker than the rest. I picked a gray re-sealer closest to the color of the original grout. The re-sealer is squeezed on, almost painted over the old grout. The grout color is now even and clean looking. The question, of course, is how long will this beautiful, even color last. Only time will tell. There is a 5 year warranty, but the owner Dan says that the floor should be fine for 10 to 15 years.
Description of Work: They scrubbed ceramic tile kitchen floor and resealed the grout. The re-sealer acts as a grout cleaner, making the floor look like it hasbeen re-grouted.

Overall, I think things went pretty well. The technician got to our house when he said he would and seemed to do a nice job. They cleaned up a pretty messy job done by another handyman and actually found more areas that should have been caulked before that had been missed. My only complaints: I was told that they take credit cards (and their Angie's list page said the same) and when it came time for payment they told me they only took cash or check. Not a big deal, but I prefer to use a credit card when I can and it was part of the reason I went with Sir Grout. My second issues is that it took a long time for someone to come out and give me an estimate (about 1.5 weeks) and about another 1.5 weeks for someone to come out and do the work. That much time to do a 2 hour job seems a bit excessive.
Description of Work: Re-caulked 3 showers and a bathtub.

Response from Sir Grout Chicago
Member, Thank you for your review. I am sorry for the delay in your scheduling. I am the owner of the franchise and I was seriously injured playing softball which caused me to go to the hospital and miss 3 weeks of work. This caused us to get a bit behind in our scheduling both on estimates and jobs due to my crew covering for me. If you ever need our services again I ensure you that the scheduling would be more efficient. Thank you for your business. Please call if you have any questions or concerns with the work in the future.

I felt very comfortable with the salesman and he was great about answering all my questions and I did call him on his cellphone several times when I thought of new ones. Although this isn't a cheap service, their estimate was lower than another company. The other company though was planning to re-grout which may be more work but we went with Sir Grout mainly because they felt they could get it back to looking great without risking tile damage via re-grouting process. I almost got teary from how great it looked. There was nothing for me to clean up and I didn't smell any chemical odors. Although the charge to color seal the floor was only $60 more, decided to skip to skip since we were moving shortly and I wasn't convinced it would make a big difference even though the salesman counseled it would and he was right. I would absolutely use them again.

I hired Sir Grout in 2009 to re-caulk master bedroom shower and seal some countertops. They did a great job. Several weeks ago, I noticed that some of the caulk in the shower was coming loose--not a huge surpise given the use that the shower receives. I called Sir Grout. They came today and re-caulked the shower for no charge. Highly recommended.

They did a very nice job. Dan was very honest and they were very pleasant. I didn't get any other estimates, but it seemed a little expensive. It could be that there prices are very fair, but I am not familiar with how much it costs to have this work done. Overall, they did a very good job. It looks much better and is holding up. It was two days of work,

Everything was great from beginning to end. From the first appointment for an estimate, Dan not only arrived promptly but took the extra step to call 30 mins beforehand to let me know he was on his way. Dan was very professional - by first taking off his shoes without hestation before he came in. He went over everything and provided some additional line item costs should I decide to do some additional work. I had a printed estimate in my hand before he left ~20 mins later! I told him I was gathering a few other estimates and would get back to him should I decide to go with them. He mentioned that if I found another competitor that detailed out the same work that came in at a lower cost than their price, that he'd be willing to work with me on getting a reduced cost. After a couple other estimates, I planned to go with another company but their schedule wasn't as accommodating/quick for me so I gave Dan a call to see if he could get closer to this competitor's cost ($200 less). While he did not match the cost of the lower bid, he did come close to the middle and offered me an additional $85 off the cost of the original estimate. The reduction was in addition to the Angie's List discount as well. I was sold! Not only did I have a great experience with the estimate and their flexibility to work with me on cost, I got an appointment to complete the work right away that worked for my schedule perfectly. The guys who came out to do the work were great. They were running behind on the job before me but called me 2hrs in advance to let me know they were running behind and that he would call me in an hour to give me a more concrete time. This worked out even better for me. Justin did as he said and called back with their arrival time. They were actually right on time while I got stuck in traffic an extra 10 minutes! Again, Justin and the other guy (can't remember his name) were professional, courteous, got right to work and were finished in a couple hours - just as I'd been told. My shower looks great!

Pretty well. In hindsight, we probably would not have spent the money because our bathrooms were still in pretty good shape prior to the cleaning.
