Of course, no one likes to have painters in their house for an extended time...but I have to say I didn't mind as they were personable, courteous and extremely tidy! I can't say enough about Kelly and her company. I highly recommend them!!
consultant. She meets with you, listens to your ideas, needs & goals and
creates a space that you fall in love with every day. Her crew is professional,
clean and courteous. You?ll never want to leave your home.
We finally decided to call a paint color expert and the moment Kelly came into our home I knew we had made the right decision by hiring a color specialist! Within two hours she had recreated our space and vision of our are home beyond our ability. Then we hired her to paint and her painting team was exquisite. So polite so neat and now our home looks bigger and newer than it ever has before! Everybody comments about how awesome our home looks now. Even the kids are amazed. Thank you Paint The Town Red! Thank you Kelly!!!
Kelly also offered some interior design advice, which was more than expected. I was not able to use all her advice, but the pieces I did worked out great.
I did the work myself over the course of a few months and exchanged emails with Kelly a few times asking for her advice and input. She was always gracious with her time and always helped, even though our "business" had been completed long before. I invited Kelly back to see the finished project and she saw some paint chips that were out for a separate project. Again, she freely offered her input without any thought of compensation (and I am very grateful, because none of those colors would have worked out like the one she suggested).
Overall, Kelly was worth every penny...and I got more than I paid for.
Kelly's crew was always on time, professional, and neat. They cleaned up after themselves and they were incredibly corteous.
I let my kids work with Kelly to help choose the colors for their bedrooms. She was very attentive to their visions but helped direct them to make a better choice for the long-run. She introduced the kids to a creative process that was fun for them. My whole family was very happy with the outcome.
Thanks to Kelly and her crew I now love my house and how it feels like a home.
"The member hired me to select color for her living room, office, kitchen and dining room. She did not hire me to paint as she found a cheaper painter. We selected the colors together and she was thrilled with the "out of the box" options as the main wall was to be painted a metallic copper. I use metallic frequently and just painted a silver metallic in my own home. Yet the less-expensive-painter that she hired to do the actual work did not know how to paint with metallic. She requested a bid from me to paint the wall yet she thought that was too expensive-even after I lowered it to $500 to help her out so that she could enjoy the colors that we selected together. I explained to her that in order to paint the wall properly it required 1 coat of solid paint and 3-4 coats of metallic. We can't simply 'splash and dash' if she would like it done properly. Unfortunately, she decided not to paint with the colors that we selected. I am still not sure why the hired painter could not paint with metallic. It is not considered a faux paint and is actually common practice. I am sorry that she ultimately did not get what she wanted by the painter as she was misinformed."
She showed me a powerpoint slide that demonstrated her recent jobs. I was floored by how beautiful the paint jobs were. She explained that they don't just paint the wall, they do a ton of repairs to perfect the wall surface first. In addition, she doesn't just come in and slap on color... She consults with the homeowner to design the entire color experience throughout the space. Unfortunately, her skills and the skill of her crew exceeded our budget, and her painting estimate was literally twice as much as the painter we ultimately chose.
HOWEVER, all was not lost with Kelly, as I was dying to work with her in some way, shape, or form, She knew that my husband and I were completely overwhelmed by the process of choosing colors for our house. We are not very good at it, and we tend to always default to the same color palette. Kelly said that she could offer to be our color consultant for wall colors for $250 per hour. Although that seemed expensive to me, I was so impressed by her, her ideas, her presence, and her work that I agreed. We were not disappointed.
Kelly spent well more than an hour with us walking our house with ginormous color sample stacks to help us talk her through what we wanted from each room. I felt that it was truly a collaborative process, as she really listened to us talk about how we would use the room, how we wanted to feel, what type of furniture we had, etc. At the end of the day, she chose bold, delicious, amazing colors for us in every room. There is not a single room that I can say I would have thought to have chosen that color, tone, or shade, but we are thrilled with every suggestion (we followed every one!).
We were so impressed, that when it came time to choose colors for window treatments (and I, again, froze up in fear), we called Kelly and she spent another hour with us going over window treatments. It wasn't just her time with me on the phone, though... She also worked with the store where we were purchasing the window shades from to guide them in terms of what types of fabric, print, and color I wanted. She probably spent more time on the phone with us and the store than an hour, but she kindly only charged us for 1 hour.
My only ONLY minor complaint was the cost, but you do get what you pay for. I would highly recommend Kelly for all of your color consultation needs. And if you have a generous budget, you should hire her to paint as well. I am sure she is amazing.
I hired them last fall to paint my whole condominium. Paint the Town Red did use a beautiful paint (Benjamin Moore Aura) but in grading them on the actual painting job, I would give them a C. Their painting in the corners, edges and baseboards was sloppy, they didn't sand the surfaces, they didn't use a sealer on a water-damaged area and they painted my windows shut.
When I mentioned the corners and edges issue to the owner, Kelly, she sent someone back to do the final touch-up to catch the areas they missed. I appreciated that. However, when I asked her why they didn't fix the surface flaws before they painted, she said it would have taken too much time and she didn't fix old paint jobs. (I didn't need major repair work, but her painters did things like paint over old paint drips rather than sand them down so the glob is still there.) Her estimate states "Repair includes scraping, caulking, plastering and sanding to achieve a smooth surface free of blemishes."
I did not have an opportunity to discuss the water-stain and windows because I didn't see that the water stain had bled through until about four weeks after they had finished and I didn't find out my windows had been painted shut until I tried to open them this spring. (I managed to get the windows open but not without a fight in which the new paint did not survive.) The ceiling and windows will have to be re-painted but I'll find someone else.
The actual paint job aside, we also had a problem when I discovered they had broken my vertical blinds. A week after they finished, I went to open my blinds and 2 slats fell out. When I went to put them back up, I noticed that the connectors had all been broken off and the slats were glued back on. I called Kelly to ask what happened and she did not respond. I called 3 times over the next 2 days and never got a response. I asker her employee when he came to do the touch-up work and he told me that they broke the blinds when they took them down to paint the window frame. He said I needed to talk to his foreman who told me he would talk to Kelly. Two more days go by and I still had no response from Kelly so I sent her an email in which I suggest that the balance of what I owe her be wiped out to cover the cost of the blinds. That got a response from her in which she accused me of just wanting to get something for free, that I kept asking for discounts and that they were not responsible fo rthe blinds because the blinds were old and should have been replaced anyway. She then sent me another email saying she doesn't believe her crew even broke the blinds. I pointed out to her that I was not making wild accusations. I did not know what happened until her employee told me they broke the blinds. And, the only discount I ever asker her for was because her crew completely failed to show up one day. (She gave me $75 off). She also gave me an incentive discount before I hired her because she wanted the job to start immediately to keep her crew working. However, I did not ask for it. Also, she adjusted the cost of the materials and paint, but only AFTER I asked for an itemized breakdown.
In the end, I found a company who could repair the headrail for under $200. I sent Paint The Town Red a copy of the estimate and they took it off my final bill.
I was upset the the blinds were broken, but I was not angry. I understand that accidents happen. What did make me angry and what I found more disappointing was that 1) I was not told of the incident but only found out by chance; 2) that they tried to hide it and 3) that rather than step-up and admit the mistake she accused me of trying to cheat her.
For me, the quality of a company is measured not only by their actual capability in providing a good product, but also by how well they handle things when something goes wrong. In that respect, Paint The Town Red failed.
"I always address client's issues when they come to me to discuss them directly. I have emailed this client to help resolve her issues and she has not replied. To clear up the misunderstanding here I have stated what I accurately told her: 1. We inherit the work completed prior to us. So if there are brush marks or drips simply sanding and painting will not remove these. We must skim coat the wall which adds time and money to a job and was not included in the bid. This client did not want to pay for the addition repair work that would be required. 2. the windows were painted almost 6 months ago and were left open to dry. What happens 6 months later is out of my control especially if there are water marks indicating a leak. Finally, the blinds were old and brittle and there is no proof that my crew broke them. My crew reports all damages directly to the client then to me and we handle the repair appropriately in order to mitigate any issues. Regardless, we paid for blind. Thank you."
I had a couple of different consultations on the color selections, which turned out really well. Kelly's style was very collaborative and we ended up wtih a palette throughout the condo that works well in the space and complements my furniture and artwork nicely. Four months later, I'm still really pleased with all of the colors we selected and the creativity that went into deciding which walls would be which colors. She also helped me pick out fabrics for a couple of pillows and a 3-paneled screen, and I've been happy with those decisions as well. She worked with a contact of hers to have them made and even managed to get them done in a tight timeframe so that I could have everything done by a specific date.
The painting was completed by her crew (led by Juan - who was extremely professional and helpful throughout the process), who did a very good job. The actual painting took a little more than a week. A few months later, the paint job still looks great overall. The only issue is some chipping that has occurred in the trim areas, but the 2-year guarantee on the paint job should take care of these issues for me. They have already been out once to touch up a few areas post-moving in (not unexpectedly, there were a few touch-ups needed then but that was due to the movers not the paint job), and that worked well. I would definitely recommend purchasing the additional 2-year guarantee for touch-ups on the paint job -- worth it to have the guarantee and the flexibility for touch-ups when things happen.
