JR Painting & Remodeling

Raul and his crew - with a special from Angie's List and a separate agreement I added on - painted most of the outside of our 1905 house in Chicago. The house is large on the outside and brick. However the front porch and stairs are entirely wood as are the outside trims for 34 original windows (cellar - first floor - second floor). With the special for Angie's List, Raul's crew painted our porch. This included over 200 pickets in the railings that run on three sides of the Porch and are the old design and type. They also painted our 8 relatively long and large front stairs (two colors). The crew also painted the six sections of framed wooden lattice work "under" the porch and under the stairs - four large and two small. Counting the faint green/blue ceiling that they also painted, this involved four colors and lots of brush work. (The floor and windows were painted dark green and the railing, the pickets,some of the lattice, the risers and the top soffit/fascia are custom Sherwin Williams were painted yellow/tan and mustard/gold (using original colors). Raul communicated well and often - which is excellent. The work done was very good and included scrapping and sanding and caulking etc. The crew showed up when promised and were neat and efficient. The space was not quite 1600 sq foot but with so much brush work and so many places where they had to watch for the brick or paint next to one of the other colors, the work involved was more then 1600 normal sq feet. (Especially the 4 colors and brick edging involved) For an added $700 (I bought the special for $1,299 early) - Raul painted the outside of the windows. We still have triple track storm windows and they kept the interior of the "outside" of the wood windows behind the storms in good paint condition and in any event harder to see. I did not ask Raul to take down the each storm and paint all of the outside window woodwork on often mullioned windows (and would not want to hear the quote on that work). However around and on top of the triple track aluminum storms are relatively large wood moulding on all of the wooden windows which often required caulking and serious scrapping and or sanding. This was true especially on the very exposed sunny south side of our home and the 10 double hung cellar windows. The painting of window moldings and trim for $700 included the back door and the bulkhead as well as a second coat on the porch deck at my request. The $700 price in my opinion was a "while I am here" price as again it was mostly brush not roller. The place looks real good and should last quite a while I expect (hope).

Super pleased with how this worked. We bought I Big Deal, and they called the very next day to schedule. Came out a couple days later and finished the job very efficiently. I couldn't believe how fast they worked. The walls we needed painted were significantly damaged, but they had all the mudding done in no time. Everything looks great. They were very professional throughout and super courteous. Clearly interested in doing a great job.

Well, the color we chose was a lot bright, and they helped us mitigate it, by adding some white paint. Then they did several coats and the room looks amazing.

The vendor showed up late. The venfor did a good job on the touch up work. The vendor used a higher grade of commercial tape (stronger adhesive) for the bedroom and actually taped the wall in one section. When I removed the tape, I then saw that not all of the wall was painted at the based by the trim. And, when I removed their tape, it pulled off the existing paint. This was very poor quality and means I now have to perhaps paint the entire wall over.

Two workers showed up for my job. My walls are approximately 15 feet high. The deal was to cover up to 20 feet, yet they did not show up with a ladder. I luckily had one that they could use. The second worker spent most of the time holding the ladder. When the helper did paint, he was slow going and did not appear to know what to do. He did not tape off the edges, so there was too much time spent cleaning up mistakes. The work itself was not bad overall, but I do not feel that I got the full value of the deal due to the second worker.

Overall they did a great job on the house. After powerwashing the house, he recommended a different paint for the exterior due to the material. He clearly is very knowledgeable about the materials available, time to complete a job and has a good eye for details. They also did a great job with clean-up after the painting was complete. We couldn't be happier with the end result, looks fantastic.

Overall, I think it looks great. There were some corners that could have been cleaner looking, but I didn't complain since I rather them get more surface area painted versus taking their time at the corners. They cleaned up well and were very professional. I would definitely use them again if they had another big deal.

I called the provider to get an estimate of the job. He gave me an estimate over the phone. When he came over to get keys prior to starting the project he said the original estimate was not accurate and was going to charge me thousands more than originally quoted. He also said he couldn't start the job when we originally discussed. I found another painter to complete the work closer to the original estimate.

Raul and team were great to work with and did an excellent job painting the exterior of our house. The team was friendly, thorough and punctual. Also, the price was lower than the other estimates that we received.

Same as above. Except I guess I didn't read where it said if 2 men came it would be for 4 hours and 1 man would have been 8 hours. So that is probably my fault. Also I would have preferred the original date set up. Luckily because he had car problems, I had another date available. But, at least he called that morning. Would have preferred more notice of cancellation of original date. They were very pleasant to work with.

Arrived on time and did a great job. Raul did not use tape to protect the molding which saved considerable time and he was very precise so he did not need tape. Now I am considering him for two other rooms.

The quote actually was the lowest quote overall and he responded very quickly. So I was impressed by it but we decided not to go with him only because the quote was not in writing, it was just a verbal quote and I was uncomfortable with that. They were very responsive, the guy came out and took a look around. It was for a two-storied frame house, last painted about 12 or 13 years ago. So some of the paint was flaking off. The price quote was for scraping the loose paint, priming it and painting with one coat of the paint that we were using which was Benjamin Moore. His quote was $3800. So it was a good price. He was professional, very nice and courteous. He just called us over the phone with the quote and I just wanted to have something in writing. I got several other bids but they were all in writing. So I kind of went with people who I thought were may be a bit more professional because that was a written quote versus just a verbal but they were also lot more expensive.

Raul did a beautiful job of painting a couple of rooms and a hallway for us. We provided the paint. He is a perfectionist in his painting which we appreciated. He had to work around certain dates for our schedule and he was flexible in scheduling. He did the work in two part-days. He has several other painters working for him - on one of the days, there was a problem with another job and he was over an hour late for ours. We completely understood but would have liked to have been called rather than having to call him. Overall, he did an excellent job and we plan to use JR Painting again.

Arrived exactly on time and did an excellent job. Asked to borrow ladder to cut in at the to of the 2 story entrance even though we had discussed that he was to paint our 2 story entrance. What would have happened if I did not have a ladder for him to use?

First day came with 3 man crew to sand then clean up. Next came back to stain first coat. 3rd & 4th day finished 2nd coat & painted garage door including trim on house & soffit. They did a terrific job..

This was our first deal with Angie's list , and we were extremely dissatisfied with the entire experience. Communication/ response: I called Alejandro as well as emailed him. It took three weeks to get a date set, primarily because we just did not get a response to our calls or emails. On the day of service: we were moving to our new home the next day (13th July), and had informed Alejandro that there would not be anyone at our new home. so we should have the exact time he would be there. He told us 8 am. My husband reached there at 7:35am and waited till 8:30am. When he called Alejandro, he was told that Alejandro had forgotten about the appointment completely!!! He was already at another job. He came to our home at 2:30pm eventually with another person. our guest room walls are 10*10 , which he just gave one coat. The 2nd guest room he left unfinished. He told us the color we had brought in from Behr was too light so he had to waste time putting up the primer. The master bedroom he put just one coat on the walls. Left the tape on the wall...plus also left the electronic socket covers lying on the ground for us to put up! At 7 he said his time is up and if we want him to work some more, we will have to pay him hourly ($45). we were ready to do that, but then he said it will have to be $45 for both of them! We asked him to stop! This Friday, 19th we hired a painter a friend recommended. He finished everything in one day , alone. and also charged less!

First, I am grateful they scheduled on a national holiday (July 4) because I was under the gun to prepare a rental apartment for the tenant to move in. Alejandro told me that because it was a Big Deal, many people had responded so he could only do on the holiday. Our communication was clear from the time Alejandro arrived to estimate the work and that the Big Deal would cover it, to the confirmation a few days before, to when the painters showed up exactly on time. The painters were awesome, and Alejandro arrived 15 minutes prior to the close of the job so he and I could inspect the work. I would definitely recommend Alejandro and his team. They provided exactly what I needed in a very short time.

The job took longer than expected due to the walls not drying that quickly. He came a week later to complete the job. He was on time and finished that day.

It was an Angie's List Big Deal that I purchased. It worked out very well, they did an excellent job with the painting. They were very competent. They did their worked very cleanly and cleaned up after themselves. The service was provided by 2 people for a half day. So maybe if it was a full day and while one part was drying, I would have had him do something else because there was some drying time in there before he put a second coat on. But he had so many responses to the Big Deal that he said he was overwhelmed and was trying to get them 2 people for half a day rather than 1 person for a whole day. I'm gonna have him back to do another painting job.

They did a pretty good job. The reason for a B grade rather than an A is there were some ceiling lights installed and primer used by the electricians. There are still feint squares I can see of the primer. I'm hoping a 2nd coat will eliminate that and was hoping it would have been eliminated by JR Painting. Overall the work they did was good for the price. They worked quickly and the clean up up quick and spotless.

Alejandro Rivas of JR Painting and Remodeling, personally painted our home by hand with premium Sherwin William paint. It was incredible that he matched our previously painted siding to a tee. Mr. Rivas and his crew power-washed our home two days before painting- Mr. Rivas was very professional and did an outstanding job for us. He worked clean and neat and was very respectful of our property and us. He was very polite and very cooperative and listen to what we wanted and expected from him. Raul was a pleasure to work with. He responded to my initial call in a timely manner and promptly scheduled a project start date. He and his colleague performed a quality and thorough job. I believe that they are fairly priced and stand behind their work. I would definitely consider them again for a future painting project, and would refer them to friends and family.
