Simply put, this was the worst experience I have ever had with a contractor. There was a little difficulty in setting up a day for them to come out, but it wasn't a big deal. The "big deal" started when the guy showed up. He showed up in what appeared to be his personal work truck (with no business name on the side). Again, not a big deal. He wasn't friendly, but again not a big deal...he came to repair drywall not converse with my family. However, everything from this point forward was terrible. Anyone who has worked on drywall or observed drywall work knows it is messy. He went in and out of our home dozens of times and never used the little slip on floor protectors on his shoes (which every other contractor I've dealt with in the past has used). Here's the real ridiculous part...he didn't use one drop cloth! That's right, he cut and patched four holes in our drywall and never put anything down to protect our floors (both carpet and ceramic tile). Of course, he didn't vacuum any of his mess up either. Later that night my wife and I spent about an hour getting both the wet and dry drywall compound out of our carpet. As he went to leave he said that the repairs would need to be lightly sanded after drying for 24 hours. That's right, he had no intention of returning to finish the job. I don't have the proper equipment to sand these areas, and some of them are so uneven that sanding won't accomplish much. On top of this, everything I have read on the internet has indicated that these types of repairs require 2-3 coats of drywall compund, not just one. Complicating this work is the fact that this company was paid by AHS and not us...but in the end that doesn't really matter. This was a super shoddy job on State Line Construction's part and I can't imagine why anyone would hire them (aside from home warranty companies I suppose). Rather than try to deal with AHS (which is a terrible, terrible company as well) I plan on hiring someone on my own to properly prepare the four areas of drywall for painting. Stay away from this company at all costs.
Description of Work: We had a plumbing leak on our second floor, which damaged drywall on the ceiling of our first floor. In addition, the plumber that fixed the leak had to cut into the drywall in three locations on the second floor. Therefore, there were a total of 4 holes in the drywall that needed to be repaired. They varied in size from 3 ft x 4 ft to 1 ft x 1ft (so, none were very large). To clarify, both the plumber and drywall repair company were selected by our home warranty company (AHS - American Home Shield) and not us. This explains why we paid nothing for the drywall repair (we just paid a $60 service fee to the plumber per the AHS policy).
