Mike's Home Repair

This man has an explosive temper and refused to correct his sloppy workmanship. At this point, even if he offered to fix the problem he caused, I would never let him come into my home again because of his horrible temper. I contracted with Mike Branick doing business as Mike?s Home Repair to install a set of French doors on the second floor of my home. He and his crew arrived on August 15th and pulled out the old doorframe as proposed and installed a new one in order to accommodate the width of the new doors. Upon completion of the job, there was noticeable gap between the top of the doorframe and the top of the right door where the two doors are supposed to fit together. Instead of a uniform gap, the gap increased from being very close by the doorframe to almost 3/8? at the center of the two doors. (The gap on the left hand door is uniform.) As a result, the right door did not fit flush with the left hand door, and after a week, it was extremely difficult to open the door because of there being no clearance between the centers of the doors. I called Mr. Branick to come out and look at the problem. On August 24th, he came out and determined that the problem was somehow my fault. He refused to offer a solution to the crooked door and was very rude. He stormed out of my home yelling at me for not having all the materials on hand, which made no sense. I caught up to him and told him that I was going to give him a bad rating on Angie?s List, to which he responded that he didn?t give a f***. Since then, I have brought in two other carpenters for estimates to straighten the door. Both agree that the job was done incorrectly in the first place.

I hired Mike to refinish 1000 square feet of continuous wood flooring in my living room, bedrooms a bathroom and closets. I needed to blend in old oak flooring with newly installed oak flooring that had been woven in with the old. I also had him and his highly skilled team replace boards and fix gaps in the floors and I couldn't be happier with the finished product. The new and the 60 year old floor boards blend in perfectly, so it looks as though they were installed last week. I haven't noticed a single spot that was missed in the whole house and it looks flawless. I used Homadvisor to find a Pro and Mike was at my house that same day with a quote. He gave me a good price so I decided to hire him. Five days later, the job was done. The job itself took three days, which included replacing damaged oak boards, fixing large gaps, sanding, staining and putting a few finishes on. I also hired Mike to help me design and install a kitchen next month and he got me a fantastic deal on cabinets. I am very pleased with how the floors turned out and I would highly recommend Mike for your next project or fixes.

First, Mike responds to phone calls quickly and doesn't leave you hanging for a week before he gets back to you. He showed up on time, did the work competently, and charged a reasonable amount. He even came in Sunday to finish the job. I liked that he went a little above-and-beyond on my badly engineered kitchen drawers, and rebuilt the glides/supports so solidly I could fill the drawers with bricks. The balcony was done well. He spent a lot of time shimming the doorway to the balcony so he could hang the door correctly. Since he's not T&M he could have cut corners when things turned out to be more complicated than they looked, but he didn't and did a careful job. He will be my go-to guy for things a little too hard for me in future.

Mike had no problem installing two ceiling fans without instructions in about an hour. Amazing! I called him on a whim and he responded quickly even though he was in the middle of another job.

Mike was a complete professional. On time, highly competent, affordable. Mike was really a great guy to deal with and will definitely count on his expertise in the future. Mike impressed a neighbor so much he hired him to bring two of his older dead snow blowers back to life.

He was late arriving, took him several days to show up and complete the job bit when he did his work was excellent. He was a very nice guy but needs an office manager .

Overall, very responsive. Does good work at a fair price.

Mike and his son in law were amazing. I was in a crisis situation as my granite countertops had an install date and my original contact to level my countertops fell through. Mike responded to me right away and was able to come over and to start the job right away. His work was perfect and his price was half the price of other quotes we had received. He was professional , He was knowledgable, he was kind and he worked his butt off. I was and still am in awe of the work that he did for the price. I will be using him again for just about anything. He was awesome !

Great. He was reliable, punctual, creative in solving a tricky situation, and the price seems about right. I will definitely use him again.

I contacted Mike's Home Repair because I needed a stove installed. He advised me that this would not be a problem at all to do. I provided him with my address and he told me that he doesn't service my area; however, his "brother-in-law" Troy does. He provided me with Troy's number. I called Troy and he tells me he can't hear me because he is on the train and that he would call me back when he got home. Four days later, still no callback, I called him back. We schedule a day for him to come over to see the stove and the job needed to install the stove. He calls me the day before he is suppose to come over and he tells that my place is out of his way. And that he did not understand why Mike referred me to him because Mike was actually located closer to me. He advised me he spoke to Mike and that Mike agreed to come check out the job. He told me to call Mike. I call Mike once again and we go over the details. He advises me that parking around my area is difficult and he sounded hesitant to say yes. I offered to get him a spot so that he would have a place to park. I also offered him my garage spot but he told me his truck would not fit. He agreed to come over and said he would be here on Thursday 07/17 at 4:00 pm. I told him I could also send him pictures of the stove and the space, which I did. I did not get any response. Today I leave my office to head home to meet him. I call him to confirm. He doesn't recall my address, I tell him ONCE AGAIN where I'm located and he starts telling me that this is gonna be a problem for him. He just started a job in Berwyn and it's not gonna be easy for him to get to my place. Frustrated beyond belief I told him at this point, I really am not interested in his services and ended the call. This guy wasted my time and I am shocked at the fact that he is still in business. This business ethic has to be one of the worst that I have come across. I think I would have some respect for this guy if he had told me from the get go that he is unable to help me and did not refer me to his brother-in-law who was also no help at all. But the fact that he agreed to come over and look at the job and then he backed out because it was inconvenient for him to come to my unit speaks for itself. The only thing this guy did was answer his phone. Horrible experience.

Mike arrived on time, first thing in the morning (his assistant was late but he got started setting up right away)- I appreciated that he had all the materials and was ready to go, since he had taken the measurements when he came to give the estimate. He and his assistant worked busily and got the job done without delay, leaving to take care of some other business while things dried and came back in a timely manner to finish up the sanding (everything was done before the end of the business day). He did a good job even though I had messed up the walls/ceiling a bit when removing the moulding the night before. I would hire him again and recommend him. He seemed familiar with old houses.

From the first phone inquiry through estimate and completion of work, Mike kept in touch and made clear that he wanted us to understand the pros and cons of a few different approaches. He actively sought to identify alternate solutions that would save us money as well as buy us time for squeezing a few more years out of our current siding. He was fair, honest, and a pleasure to work with. The workmanship was great, especially considering that we asked Mike and Anthony to do patch work in less-than-ideal circumstances. Trying to keep a 110 year-old home water tight can be a real challenge. A real bonus to working with Mike was that he seemed genuinely interested in helping us make the most cost-efficient choices as we save for major renovations down the road. Without a doubt, Mike will be the first person we call for future projects.

It went great. No problems.

He took down all the old kitchen cabinets and flooring. He took off soffit to make room for taller cabinets and also moved electrical to accommodate the new design. New tile flooring was put down along with all new light fixtures. The bath was also upgraded with new vanity, sink, faucet and light. And many other small items.

Mike was responsive and punctual, but balked quite a bit when tried to negotiate on price. Stairs look good, but drywall repair is a little below quality I would expect.

Was good, he was courteous, fair price and came on short notice.

HE FRAMED, INSULATED AND DRY WALLED THE ENTIRE ROOM. ALSO PUT UP A DROP CEILING AND SOME OTHER REPAIRS. THE ROOM WAS COLD WITH MANY DRAFTS AND LOOKED BAD. WHEN HE WAS DONE IT LOOKED REALLY GOOD AND WARMER. I HAVE USED HIM IN THE PAST OFTEN AND WOULD NOT HESITATE TO USE HIM AGAIN. I ALSO RECOMMENDED HIM TO FAMILY MEMBERS WITHOUT HESITATION.

Although he came on time, we had to disconnect plumbing night before due to change in countertop installation appointment. He came and reset sink and connections. Wife was concerned about inappropriate language. We had other task to be done, but he left saying he'd be back at 4pm. He never returned and when we put water in sink after 24 hours as directed, the garbage disposal leaked dismally and we had to clean out whole under sink area again. We called and he came again next day, said garbage disposal needed new gasket, which I would have thought he would have checked. He took then finally our list of other tasks for which we needed assistance. He has never contacted or called us again since. So though he came back, it was because he didn't do it right the first time and has never be polite enough to follow up with us since.

Job was done neatly and professionally. The areas repaired look perfect. I would not hesitate to call Mike in the future.

Not well. When he came to take a look at what they need to move and said it was too big for 2 people, then they said were going to awalk back up stair to see how they were going to manuover the large bookshelf. They just walked off and never said anything. I tried calling them and left voicemails and still never heard anything from them. They should not have an A rating.

It went very well. Mike made an appointment with me to review the work I wanted done he was on time and prepared. After reviewing the list and the actual space we sat down to discuss, he provided an estimate, wrote out a list of the materials, sizes and best of all provided me with suggestions on materials I could use that are of good quality and cost effective. Mike also suggested that I not pay for delivery he offered to pick up the materials, I did make an effort to purchase all materials at one location for his convenience. However, as it turned out I went to a location that Mike rarely visits and the order was not ready as was communicated overall that location took up about a full day of work. Mike was not annoyed with me but lesson learned - for next time. When the work began Mike and Anthony were prompt and organized, when the job was complete they cleaned up and removed all debris. Mike and Anthony went above and beyond I was so pleased with their work and overall work ethics that I will continue to use them in the future. I have recommended Mike's Home Repair and plan to use them again in the next couple of weeks. They are an excellent team. Thank you.

these guys are no-nonsense. got in, made a bid, and got it done.

I use him quite a bit. I have used him 2 or 3 times since last January. The job turned out excellent. I can't even tell that he did it. I have an old house and I am finding from day to day that stuff has to be repaired more and more. The person who owned it before did not do a good job so now all I do is fix stuff. Mike's is just a small business. I think he has one other employee. I think it is 2 employees. He just does everything. He is like a handyman. It's more like you ask him what he doesn't do than what he does do. He is very reasonably priced. He tells you up front what it's going to cost. My sump pump died and the sewer system backed up and he came in on a Saturday morning to replace it. He does a great job. He does plumbing work and lots of different stuff. He is kind of like old school. He is reasonably priced and he does a good job. I haven't had any problems with any of the work that he does. He has been pretty straight up front on what it's going to cost. I don't think anytime I felt he ever overcharged. I will definitely continue to use him. He generally is a nice guy. I don't feel uncomfortable when he is in the house. He stays until he gets the work done. He did plumbing work for me and it took him a lot longer, and he pretty much stayed until it got done even though it meant him staying until 7 o'clock.

I have used him several times in the past and every job was done to my satisfaction. One job needed a follow up and he was there the next day. I have recommeded him to several of my friends who had the same good outcome. Several times in the past he went over and above on some plumbing repairs to where he fixed a wrong job done by someone else. I will continue to call him when ever I need some repairs in the future.
