Description of Work: I signed up for a bathroom remodel for $5000. when Design Invention came to look at the bathroom, there was an additional $1000 added because of size (which I don't remember reading about.) The 50 year old house had an aqua tub, sink, and toilet. I wanted the old tub removed in exchange for a white one. He told me that would be another two or three thousand. I later had the tub sprayed white for $300 which he never suggested as an option. I wanted new ceramic tile just in the tub area, and the other ceramic tile in the room removed. That would have been an additional thousand or more because it would require reconstruction of drywall. Almost everything I wanted done, was extra. It seemed my $5000 bathroom redo would end up close to $10,000 with additional charges for what, I considered, a normal part of a remodel job. Design Invention sent an email of potential charges. I saw a $137 charge for plans and village licenses. I called my village hall and asked what the charges were for the things I wanted done. According to the village, no licenses were required for what I was having done. I emailed and called Design Invention and asked him to remove that charge. My email and phone call were not returned until AFTER I cancelled the entire job. It was such a negative experience BEFORE the work had been done. I couldn't imagine Design Invention being attentive to actual remodeling concerns.

Description of Work: An estimate was given to us back in February, 2012. I got back to them after having a few estimates. I gave the project to them due to the professionalism of Peter (owner) and his suggestions. The project started with new grout, new cabinets and new sinks/granite countertop. Once the project started Peter let me know that old work had been done poorly and they would do their best to make it nice. We were basically going to do a "patch work". After disucssion we decided to do a full remodel which made the project more costly. it was worth it!!! I love my new bathroom - a new top of the line shower which is lined with marble, built in shelfs in shower and a bench. We also added 3 massagers in shower with Grohey faucets/shower heads. Also a step into my jacuzzi tub. Love it!! The bathroom is so nice. Also with the price quoted above is hardwood floors in the hallway upstairs and into Master bedroom closet. A linen closet was built as well along with new ralings on stairs. An added fix was also a gas leak that nobody had found before. We have had a unique smell in the house for 9 years. We had gas company out, 2 plumbing companies and nobody could fine a gs leak. When Peter's team took out the jacuzzi tub to do the tiling they got a strong smell of gas. They were very open with me the whole project and kept me posted on everything. They did not want to put tab back until we resolved the gas leak. Peter's plumber was here and started looking at pipes and where they were located. The tub was above the kitchen and the smell was strong so figured it was in the kitchen. We had to make a few holes in the kitchen wall to find it but we did. They fixed it very quickly - had to go to store and get connection fitting. Solved and no more gas smell. Now we will have them do some work in kitchen (we wanted to anyway before holes). Petyr's team of Jessy ,Andy and Peter were excellent. The team did not speak English but Petyr did and i have a Polish nanny so it worked out perfect. Also - Petry was very available and was at the project every day. He always answers his phone too! Excellent work and would highly reccommend them. I plan to have them do my kitchen, other bathroom and basement within next couple of years.

Description of Work: Note that the price we listed of $30k includes all new high end appliances, disposal, 42 in cherry cabinets, granite, stone tile, etc, etc, in addition to the actual remodel cost from Design Invention. If you are on a lower budget you could accomplish for much less by buying less expensive cabinets and appliances. We also went with natural stone and epoxy grout on all wall and floor tiles which is very expensive but worth it in our opinion. Our floor tile was laid at 45 degrees, which looks great, but again all this stuff cost more and can be changed depending on your budget. We just felt that we were living with basics for so long that we wanted to go all out and Design Invention did a fantastic job at implementing and installing. We also upgraded and added electrical outlets, lights, plumbing, etc. basically a total, high end, remodel. Peter, of Design Invention, was extremely helpful with ideas and opinions about how to proceed in a number of areas with small touches like the black switches to go with our brushed nickel wall plates to major decisions such as epoxy grout. We can’t say enough about Peter’s professionalism, the quality of his teams work and the end result of the remodel which were all fantastic. We have only one recommendation if you decide to move forward (and we think you should) with Peter and Design Invention… not all of our crew took the care we thought was needed to keep our floor tile and grout clean after it was laid and while they were still working. The floor should have been covered and the end result is that dirt has dried into the epoxy grout in some areas making it impossible to clean. The only way to correct would be to re-grout the entire floor which would be too expensive. So, our recommendation is to make sure they take care to tarp the floor after laying yours and before installing cabinets, etc or waiting for a longer period for the floor to dry… especially if you pay extra for epoxy. That said, we are extremely happy overall and are planning on using Design Invention for more work in 2012. They are just the best service we’ve worked with, an unbeatable value and get great results. Good luck with your project!
