As other members have stated, I can?t say enough great things about Peter and his team at Design Invention (DI). It?s not every day that you hear the words contractor and honesty in the same sentence, this is exactly what you get with Peter and DI. They remodeled my entire house ? not one single wall was untouched. From the carpet to ceilings and wall to wall ? DI literally rebuilt everything in my home. This included three bathrooms, kitchen, foyer, two bedrooms, fireplace, laundry room, living room, and den. My home is now a place that I love coming home to thanks to Design Invention. It?s absolutely stunning. From my initial contact with Peter for an estimate, I knew he was the contractor to hire. He had more ideas and design feedback than even I had thought of in months of planning for this project. What I also liked about DI is that everyone was family - electrical, plumbing, tile, carpet, etc. This meant that everyone had a vested interest in ensuring quality work. That was another deciding factor when choosing DI to do the work. This brings me to his wife?s Interior Design services. A lot of people may overlook budgeting for a professional Interior Designer, but I highly suggest it. I was happy that I did hire her as she carefully chose all materials, granite, tiles, faucets, lighting, paint, etc. She then presented it on computer generated floor plans in extreme detail along with bringing actual samples from the stores so I could physically see everything come together. I didn?t make one change to her work and absolutely loved everything she envisioned. She came over at least 5+ times to review the work in progress and help me choose color schemes along the way. If a design question came up along the way, I simply gave her 100% control to make any decisions without hesitation. Again, like others mentioned it bears repeating, his entire team was professional, timely, cared about quality craftsmanship and always went the extra mile. Peter was constantly keeping me updated on progress and often asking ?Do you have any questions?? Moreover, he was extremely accessible to contact either by phone or text if needed. DI was in my home for about two months. I felt comfortable simply leaving the front door unlocked and they would come inside and get right to work. They worked from 8am to at least 6pm every day, including some Saturdays. And when leaving, they would tidy up and would even lay down canvas tarps and block access to the areas under construction so my two dogs wouldn?t accidentally step on anything sharp. They also helped move all furniture from the lower level to upper level once the living room and master bedroom was complete A lot of care was also put into the small aspects of construction that in the end made a huge difference. I promise you, any other contractor would have not cared as much about the end result and spending extra time to make sure everything fit and looked correct. At the end of the project, a lot of dust and debris had naturally made its way through the house. This just simply couldn?t have been avoided with as much work as they did. Peter had an extremely nice, professional and thorough cleaning staff come clean and dust all remnants from the construction. I have recommended Peter, his wife and DI to everyone that is considering remodeling. I also intend to have them come back soon and freshen up my garage and replace some patio doors. Simply put, you won?t find the kind of hard work, care, trust, honesty, and quality in another contractor.

Peter was very accomodating to make sure everything was set correctly for the remodel. I believe five people came out: a plumber, a tiler, a couple extra hands, and peter himself. He recommended someone for the shower door and the granite top; we purchased a majority of the raw materials like studs for the walls, the tile, and the bathroom fan. So just about 95% of the bathroom we purchased and he installed, and he provided the remainder. They were very responsive and punctual, and they kept the house clean, he brought in a cleaning crew twice to tidy up the place as a courtesy just before the holidays trying to keep it as clean as they could, we did have one issue but Peter resolved it quickly. We have already recommended their services to the neighbors, and we've also went back to him to get some extra work in too. There was honestly nothing to dislike about the company. It didn't take long at all, we had used other providers prior to but we would definitely use his service again.
Description of Work: Completely ripped out the entire bathroom an old tub, an old 36 x 36 shower, and a toilet. They installed a new sliding window and shifted the walls to get in more room, and installed a vanity. We purchased most everything but they did all the plumbing and got all the permits, and installed french doors and a pocket door for the master bathroom.

The work was done quickly and the price was very competitive. He was very punctual and responded to texts and emails quickly. However, the problems occurred before the actual work was done. We needed to get a permit for the job, but he did provide much support in getting the permit. He just provided us with certifications numbers (number for contractor license was incorrect as well as the plumber). We've never applied for a permit before so the whole process took another 2 weeks before we actually did any work. We did not know what form to fill out, and we got and used the wrong numbers as well. I was under the impression that a general contractor takes care of all the permits but I guess I was wrong. We eventually got the permit and work was able to start. He was there to meet the inspector during the 1st inspection. However, he didn't tell us to schedule an inspection until 2 days before they were ready for inspection. Inspections take 5-10 business days to schedule. So we were sitting with unfinished bathrooms awaiting inspection for a week and a half. The whole job was estimated to take about a week but it ended up taking about 3 weeks to complete. After the work was done, we noticed a small crack in the tile by the linen closet in our 1st floor bathroom and the grout job on the 1st floor bathroom was inconsistent- some areas of thicker grout. If we didn't have to deal with the permit process, I would say that it was good work done. But the permit process was such a headache and he didn't really support us.

Peter and his guys were great and easy to work with. They were prompt and very professional. Peter was very thorough and quick to respond and offer solutions. If it was not for the poor decision on my part to choose a tile manufacture that delayed the product, Peter and his crew would have had the project done in less than 2 months. Each person Peter brought in to do work whether it was electric, tile, plumbing, etc they were all courteous and a pleasure to work with. They would come and go, with a key to our home that I provided and I felt very comfortable leaving them there when I was not around. I highly recommend Design Invention. We were very pleased with his work and will be using him agin for a guest bathroom remodel.

I think that they did a very solid job for an excellent price in a very short amount of time. They met all our expectations and we’re happy with the results that we had. The big deal is $4999. We also purchased out materials which came out to similar amount. The whole thing cost just under $10000. I would say that the workmanship was good but not great. They did do a couple of some extra things which is above and beyond the call that we needed while maintaining the same original price point. The price was excellent and they were fast.

I believe it went very well. The price was too high for us to use them. We definitely would use them once we're in a better position to go ahead. They were very polite. They lived up to their references on Angie's List. I was very happy with them. They were very professional and knowledgeable. They had very good recommendations for how to proceed with it. They would change the layout of the kitchen, take down walls and replace walls. It was very good. It was exactly what we wanted. Their price was a little high but I don't think they were unreasonable.

Overall we love our new kitchen and bathroom. Both of rooms look beautiful and we are thrilled with the results. Being in an older home, we did not know what was behind the old façade. Design Invention was able to handle any of the issues found behind the walls and under the floor. They made sure to do everything correctly versus simply getting it done or covering it up. Both projects started on time, and took just about the amount of time they expected. As issues/concerns came up, they would run the situation by us, with the right fix to bring it up to code. They also asked, throughout the projects, for our opinions on things (locations of items, spacing, etc.) before executing to ensure we were happy with the work. If we wanted anything added or changed, they would let us know the time/effort required to give us the full picture. While we were happy overall, there were two things that we would have liked to see handled differently through the process. The first was less design support than expected - while Design Invention provided some general feedback around the potential design options, they really left it up to us to define what we wanted the look/feel of each space to be. We were comfortable with this, for the most part; except for the fact that (occasionally) we felt we weren?t aware of all the potential design options available. Someone requiring full design support/development may not get what they need. Lastly, after living in the rooms for a few days, we noticed a few places some details were missed. Anyone visiting our home and glancing at both spaces would agree they look amazing, but a few of the finishing touches could have been given a little more effort (extra coat of paint, minor hardware alignment, etc). Design Invention was more than happy to come back and address anything we noticed, but it would have been nice not to need to do this. Overall, we were happy with the work, and would use them again.
Description of Work: In the spring of 2013, Design Invention built us a brand new kitchen. The kitchen was torn down to the studs. The wall between the kitchen and dining room was taken down. New plumbing, lighting, electrical, cabinets, flooring, and counter tops were installed. In the spring of 2014, Design Invention built us a new bathroom. Similar to the kitchen, the bathroom was torn down to the studs. New plumbing, lighting, tub, and tiling were installed.

Everyone involved was very polite and arrived on time. Project went on over a week which is far too long IMO for a very small bath. The paint job was pretty lousy - spotty and uneven. I'm not sure why the door got painted, but something went terribly wrong as it peels up with a minor fingernail ding. Perhaps because the only white paint that we provided was ceiling paint? But again, there was no discussion about painting the door. I had to have someone from Design Invention come back out after it was done to reverse the mounting of the shower doors. They were installed backwards even though a sticker very plainly stated which side was "out". The original laborer had also forgotten to toggle bolt the medicine cabinet, so this was done at that later time as well. I had to have a plumber come out about 5 months later to fix the drain which was improperly installed. Two years later, I've got base trim pulling away from the wall even though it was caulked at the top edge.

Peter and his crew started with tearing out all old plumbing, sinks, electrical, etc. as needed. This was largely done on day one. They hauled away all the lumber scraps, etc. all through the project. I think we had good ideas but along the way I often asked Peter's opinion and he had one good idea after another. I believe he said his wife is a decorator. Maybe he gets some valuable input from her. The experience, knowledge and skill of the whole crew made the outcome as good as we could have hoped for. They installed two kinds of wall tile, floor tile, specially designed and stained crown molding with recessed lighting (something i saw on their website), shower door, double vanity, toilet, mirrors and all the required electrical and plumbing. They did faux painting in bedroom, bathroom and the hallway into the rooms. They provided large (about 1 foot x 2 foot) faux paint samples that made choosing the right one easy. They were on the job, on time, all day, every day. They made significant progress every single day so that every day we were excited to come home from work and see what was new. The whole crew was a pleasure to be around every day. They laid down canvas tarps on the floors every day and took them up at the end of each day.

Peter was very professional. He was responsive to our phone calls or texts . When we had ordered the wrong cabinets,he adjusted his time to accomodate us for further shopping. The big deal with Design Invention, Inc wasn't that great a deal because it was almost like I did it myself. A lot of things I had to call him back on that he should have known himself. For example I did extra work because it was so cheap and he was knocking down a wall. He was working out the cost and he wrote on the bathroom wall, but when they finished doing everything and they painted it, after the paint dried you could see everything he had written. He didn't use any primer. I had extra sockets put in because I had more light fixtures put in the bathroom so we had more electrical circuits. One of the electrical circuits was left completely open and he didn't even cover it up with the holder that should go on there, and didn't even say anything to me about it. My sister was thinking about using him because we had gotten the money to do it and she was like definitely not. I also would never use him again. It was like you knew somebody, one of those rehab people that did stuff like that, almost as if when your kids cleans their room, they do the minimal thing needed. He barely even cleaned up after himself. I still got my bigger bathroom and so far nothing has fallen apart. When he was putting in the sink he informed me that it might drip, but with this type of faucet it does that so don't worry about that. I just ended up having someone else come in and fix it. They tightened it up and it hasn't dripped since then. The price was fine. He did come back and fix some things and sent somebody in to paint.

I've been meaning to put something down about my bathroom remodel for awhile now. After almost 2 years it still looks great with no issues. I thought Peter went over and above what was expected. His communication was excellent every step of the way. He corrected many issues I feel others would have ignored. All of his people were great and he demands the best from them. Any problems I had would be resolved immediately. No complaints.

It is going to be installed on Monday, but as far as I can tell, our interaction went great. They work with you and help you out with anything that you ask. I would recommend them. We are destroying the kitchen right now and they are going to install the island that the girl that came out and I designed. She helps you design and gives you a few ideas to think about but she lets you make the choice without pushing you into it. Their price was probably a little more than what I expected, but by the time that you are done, they help you design and I was not happy with what I had designed before. So far, everything has gone great and they will work with me to install it, but we will see what happens if it gets installed.

Peter and his team did a fantastic job! It all started with the estimate- Peter was very thorough when he came out to our house. He caught things that other contractors who we had give estimates missed- such as the need for an ejection pump per code in our town. His price was $2,000 under the next lowest bid and half that of the highest. Peter was also very responsive to a few changes we made early on in the design and did his best to accommodate everything we needed. When work started, he and his crew came in and covered everything with drop clothes. Even the places where we had put down our own drop clothes were covered! He also did his best to seal off the part of the basement where the work was taking place so as not to spread dust around. My wife and I were amazed by the attention to cleanliness and detail that Peter and his team had. Everyday when we checked on the work, the space was clean, dusted and nothing was out of place. The only cleaning that we had to do once the job was done was dusting to remove the layer of concrete dust that covered things. Peter took the time to understand our needs and did not try to upsell us on more expensive finished or fixtures. We purchased all the finished materials on our own and when we made a technical mistake with the purchase, Peter was more than willing to go out and purchase the proper item. He would send us pictures of the items he was considering and allow us to pick the best one for our taste. Peter's crew also were more than willing to stay after hours to complete the job in a timely manner. The crew completed things ahead of schedule and on budget. I would use Peter and Design Invention again in a heartbeat. They knew what they were doing, were courteous, responsive, and professional.
Description of Work: Remodel unenclosed two piece half bathroom in basement (a working toilet and utility sink) into a full three piece bathroom. Also, moved utility sink, washer and dryer to tie into new plumbing and ejection pump. Scope of work involved framing new bathroom, creating entryway into existing finished portion of basement, all electrical and plumbing, breaking the foundation slab, running pipe, installing ejection pit, and cementing over this. Price did not include finished materials, although it did include the installation of these.

Peter and his team did an excellent job. The rehab work itself looks excellent and we receive many complements. As mentioned, it was a gut rehab project. Walls, flooring, fixtures, tubs, toilets, and counter tops were all replaced and updated. Just as important, the project came in within budget and the timeframe quoted. During the project, we requested upgrades such as a shower niche and upgrade in lighting fixtures and Peter was very accommodating and fair with his price quotes. His crew was very prompt each day and if needed, they put in extra hours to meet the timeframe to complete the project. They were also very clean in the work area by putting down drop clothes. Peter's tile guy did exceptional work and was very careful in detail. He also provided good suggestions in the design. Overall, I would recommend Peter and his Design Invention team. I look forward to working with them in a future project.

We had purchased a big deal for the service, and it was a mixed bag. The crew was polish, there was a cultural inability to communicate. The foreman was the only person that we could communicate with. They were here for a 2 week period. When the city inspectors came, the law had just changed six months ago, that all homes had to be retro fitted with fire alarms, and Carbon Dioxide detector, and we had to pay extra for that. They did do a good job.

Peter came out to measure and give me an estimate to have the vinyl tile removed in the master bath and replaced with porcelain tile. I also wanted a rectangle frame with mosaic tiles inserted. In the full bath, I wanted a complete remodel including removing the tub and building a walk in shower. Peter's estimate came in at over $10k.The full bath is only 5' X 8' and even if you were to painstakingly cover it with 4 x 4 tiles, should it cost that much. His quote was more than TWICE the other estimates I've gotten. Other estimates within a 3 week timeframe were $4100 and $5000. I can't imagine why he would charge so much. He also seemed very rushed, didn't ask a lot of questions and didn't offer much information or feedback on anything I said. Perhaps I look dumber than I am. I am actually very insulted that he felt he could overcharge me by so much.

Peter had remodeled half of my basement in 2011 to my great satisfaction (Angie's Big Deal) so when the April floods caused my sewer to back up and caused my basement (including the newly finished and carpeted room) to be flooded he was my first call! As usual he was very prompt and immediately worked me into his schedule to get things fixed up. We decided to put in a ceramic floor and replaced an additional basement window on the utility side. He even checked a sump pump replacement installation which I had done by someone else and had concerns that it wasn' t to code so he also fixed that as well. He is the best! I will without doubt hire him again for my next project.

Saw the idea in a magazin, the entire bathroom from floor to ceiling in penny round. There should be a picture posted as it shows the diversity of their skills. It was great working with Peter. To begin with we had what we thought were solid ideas of what we wanted to do but, with Peter's insight and advice, the project became so much better. He was also a good source of advice on tile types, lighting, counters, etc. Once the project was underway it was apparent that his craftsmanship is impeccable too. We weren't able to be at home during the days of the remodel but each evening when we came home the work area was cleaned up. Everything was top notch and the work was done very well. We couldn't be happier and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Peter to anyone.

We couldn't be more pleased with our new bathroom. Peter at Design Invention is a pro at overseeing a project, always making himself available to us. And the workers worked quickly and efficiently, and always took care of our home. The new bathroom is beautiful, the craftsmanship stellar, and it all only took a week. Highly recommended.
Description of Work: Full bathroom renovation, replacing tub, toilet, sink, vanity, tiling and lighting.
