I joined Angie's list because I was looking for a contractor. I interviewed 9 of them but every time I was interviewing another contractor it would go up 5 or $10,000.00 more so I went back to somebody who hadn't gotten back to me yet and they did finish the project. What they do is they have multi-million dollar contracts with the city but they wanted to get into doing, spread out and also doing condos like mine. What they do is renovate bathrooms and kitchens so that people, instead of moving out of their homes can stay in their home can cook and use their bathrooms without moving into a nursing home. They did a great job. It was good, very good. I had lower bids but I felt more comfortable with him because he had worked with my girlfriend before.

It went great. Jose was on time. He was able to detect a broken wheel very quickly and repaired it. He was very good about cleaning up after his job and wore socks on his shoes.
Response from Extended Home Living Services
"Thank you very much for taking the time to write a review. We're glad to hear that Jose was able to detect the problem with your chair lift and address it so quickly. Please don't hesitate to contact us if you need any more assistance with your chair lift."

The salesman was a big help in getting the permit from the village and getting the plats. He even came on his day off to pick up the survey plat and bring it to the village.

It went well. My only complaint is that they did not offer to remove their shoes or put on booties. Working in nice homes this should be the norm.
Response from Extended Home Living Services
"Thank you for your feedback - that's a good idea. We have purchased booties for all of our technicians."

That is not what they did.  I was terrifically disappointed because water pools in the middle of the tile floor and they only tiled the walls in the existing shower area.  When I complained I was told the contract clearly stated that there would be a specific slope to the floor and that that slope didn't allow for a true wet room because the bath was too small.  No one told me that, they just did their work with out ever saying they could not do what I had asked and had been told they would do.  They did make a few additional changes to try to rectify what they hadn't done correctly, but when I complained and asked them to redo the work they threatened to sue me if I didn't pay them for the work immediately.  At the time my husband was very ill, he passed away a few weeks later, and I didn't have the time or heart to do battle.
Response from Extended Home Living Services
"We are very sorry that the client was disappointed. A key part of our process is to provide a detailed written proposal. In this case, we clearly explained what we could do - and provided the detailed written proposal. Given that it was a multi-level condominium environment - it wasn't possible to move the plumbing to create a true wetroom with a centered drain - and additionally this would have been a significantly higher project cost and been a project that would have taken much longer to complete. With regard to the tile - our proposal specifically described that we would infill only the lower rows of tile - and this was in keeping with the request to keep the cost of the project down. We never threatened to sue ----- and instead in order to try to make the client happy, we went back at our own expense and added more tile at a cost of over $1000. Again - we work hard to satisfy our customers and are sincerely sorry that there was disappointment. We were focused on providing a better bathing environment and were sensitive to the needs of the client and her husband."

The work was completed today after the need to remake some of the pieces. What is most important is that they would not install the stairlift unless it was perfect, came back to reevaluate what needed to be done, refabricated some parts, and installed it only after being very careful that it would work perfectly.
I am extremely pleased with my interaction with everyone at EHLS and recommend them without reservation.

The whole project was a huge headache and once the elevator started working like it was supposed to they no longer service us and feel we paid $50k to a company who is now leaving us behind!

--------------------
Update: Since this time we have continued to use this company for service and I rate them excellent.
Response from Extended Home Living Services
"I spoke to this member following this situation. Unfortunately, she was not given helpful, nor accurate, information when she called. Our receptionist did refer her to a company that had more experience and better access to parts for the type of elevator that she has - However, we should also have offered to fix it ourselves. The company that we referred her to, did come to her house and make repairs but did not provide the same level of customer service in the home as we do. I apologized to her and offered a free 6 month check-up due to her dissatisfaction. On a side note: we have owned EHLS for 2 years and as owners are committed to honoring all customer warranties and providing support to the many customers EHLS has served over almost 20 years. We are proud to offer multiple fine brands of lifts including: Bruno, Thyssen Krupp, Waupaca, Savaria-Concord, and Otis Home Elevator. We are sorry about this incident and assure you that we have many happy customers who have done large home modifications with us - we can provide customer recommendation letters for jobs as small as a stairlift and as large as a home addition to house an elevator. Thank you for considering us."

The casing seems to come loose very easily and the second time it actually stopped the lift from operating. Both times I received same day service performed by Ken in a very professional manner. Neither time cost me anything as the unit is still under warranty. I am not sure if I am as positive about the Bruno lift as I am about the company but will definitely use them again if a need arises. The quality of their work exceeds that of my lift.

Our chairlift had started making grinding noises part way up the stairs. Extended Home Living still had a record of our installation in their system when I called, and had a service person scheduled to be in our area the next week. This was on a day when we had already had several appointments scheduled, however, so this could have been a problem, but the service representative, Will, was VERY prompt, showing up right at the start of the time period we were given to expect him. He worked quickly and neatly, found it was only two bearings that had gone bad, and explained what he was doing and what annual maintenance he recommended.
