The interior painting went well except for Color-Time using the wrong color in a bathroom. Rather than have them redo it, we accepted the color as it was. The interior work looks good. They have a nice crew of workers who are efficient and polite. Concerning the exterior: We went to a large expense to sandblast large beams for our front and back porches. Color-Time painted the entrance beams a dark brown color stain without checking the sample blook of wood we had prepared so they could use it for reference. They didn't do a small spot to check for correctness. Upon viewing the stain colored wood, it nearly gave us a heart attack because raw wood saps up the color and cannot be changed. Also on the exterior, we had an issue with the framer's work where he accidentally used steel nails. Within 24 hours after the exterior was painted, rust began to form around the nail heads. Color-Time agreed they could fix the problem, charged the framer an additonal $1000 to reprime and repaint. We chose a Kilz product from the two possible choices based on conversations between Jason, the painter, their paint representative on the phone, and our own research on the products. Color-Time was specifically asked whether the primer to correct this problem mattered since their previous use of primer had been a Zinsser brand. Both Jason and the paint rep said either would do the job. Jason and Alfredo used numerous cans of spray Kilz on 3/4 of the house to cover all the nail heads. After it dried, they sprayed the correct surface color in place. Then this spring. we began to notice that some places had rust around the nailheads again. In trying to contact Rob at Color-Time, many calls later, he and his paint rep met with us to see what needed to be done. He agreed to take care of the problem under his warranty. He even told us he set aside time to do it on his schedule the third week in July. He did not show up or answer calls however, and now we are into colder weather and cannot paint this season. After sending him a letter asking him to honor the contract and warranty, he denied it and tried to pay us off with a $150 "courtesy check." We do not accept this and have returned the check. We do not find Rob represents a level of professionalism worthy of a reference since the acutal amount of repriming he'd committed to doing is minimal...his paint rep even offered to give him a free gallon of primer to do the job. We hope Color-Time will honor the repairs this spring so we do not have to institute court action.
