All bathrooms, laundry and office space and replacement of doors were completed on time and satisfactory. The thermostat was located on the wall which was to be removed between the living and dinning area. I asked the carpenter if he would be able to move the thermostat without any problem and he assured me this could be done. The air and heating unit was in proper working condition prior to the remodel, however, after it was moved it no longer worked. Benning Carpentry would not fix the problem and I had to hire someone else to repair the unit. The HVAC tech that repaired the unit informed me that wires had been crossed and burnt which was the reason my unit was not working. It cost me $930 to repair. I relayed this information to Benning Carpentry and asked that he submit a claim to his professional liability insurance. He has refused to do so. Problems also arose with the concrete countertop. On the move in date, it was noted that the countertop had scratch marks. The sealant also chiped off along with the stain leaving small areas of raw cement. The cause of the initial chipping was scotch tape and painters tape that had come into contact with the countertop. Benning Carpentry was notified of the damaged area and I was told by Matt Benning that he would fix the problem. Benning Carpentry used a spray lacquer to spot seal the areas that had chipped, however, the finish continued to chip or peel off. Again I notified Matt Benning that the problem was not solved. He returned on December 23rd and painted the chipped areas then covered the surface with epoxy. This only made the problem worse as the sealant and stain continued to chip and peel off after a few hours of contact with water. Once again I notified Benning Carpentry of the problem. I contacted another concrete countertop installer who informed me that to fix it properly, the finish needed to be stripped completely off and redone. This information was passed on to Benning Carpentry. Matt Benning then told me that it was a product failure that caused the finish to chip and peel and not his responsibility. Matt Benning did agree on April 8, 2017 to strip off the finish on the countertop but said I needed to hire someone else to apply the stain and sealant again stating that it was a product failure and not his responsibilty. I requested he turn in a claim on his professional liability insurance to cover the cost of fixing the poor finish which he fabricated. He has refused to do so.
