Description of Work: Cleanup of yard after approximately 7 years of neglect. Overgrown bushes were trimmed and/or removed, front and back yards cut, trees were trimmed off house, beds cleaned of overgrowth and trimmed, edges trimmed and entire property blown clean.

Description of Work: Called these guys twice approximately 2 weeks ago. Never showed up to give me a estimate, what a waste of my time. If he didn't want or couldn't keep his appt. least they could is advise me the 2nd time i called.

Description of Work: Took down 2 small/medium sized dead trees. Gathered and hauled away a ton of leaves that had accumulated since construction began late last summer. Cut down/removed tall weeds/undergrowth/privet/bamboo. Basically, Frank & his crew made our overgrown backyard (about 1/2 acre) into something we can now start improving w/ some landscaping.

Description of Work: We have a very large, sloping front yard that we needed cleaned of leaves, debris, etc. It was approximately 1/2 an acre of land and was covered in leaves. Frank, at overgrown front yards cleaned and hauled all the leaves/debris.

Description of Work: While Frank seemed to be a pleasant guy, he arrived more than 30 minutes late and then proceeded to quote for leaf cleanup, small shrubs and some limited vine removal from an area totaling about 1,500 sq ft of yard. He said it would take 8 hours for his two guys. He then quoted $1,150 for this work - for an absolutely outrageous $143.75 per hour or $72/hr for each man to do unskilled labor. While he might be pleasant, his prices are ridiculous.

Description of Work: This is an update on the most recent review I gave Frank of Overgrown Backyards. Frank called to let me know he thought he provided me with an estimate. Once he realized that he did not call me back, he tried very hard to make everything right. He set up a time to meet at my home and was on time, very accommodating, thorough, professional and quick to provide an estimate. So, I'm changing my F to an A.

Description of Work: We had the back and front yards mowed, all of our bushes trimmed, the yard edged and the driveway and gutters cleaned out. Our yard hadn't been serviced in a while, and it was very overgrown. Lots of leaves and pine needles were all over both yards. It was a very big job.

Description of Work: Frank and his crew cleared my very large backyard ("L"-shaped, 200' x 50' plus 50' x 60'), which had been long-neglected. They removed all leaves, lots of fallen branches (some very large), and two small dead trees (3" trunk diameter). They also trimmed the hedges in the front yard, blew the leaves off the roof, and cleaned the gutters. The yard looks great -- I can't stop looking out the windows to admire it! One neighbor has already called to ask who did the work.

Description of Work: To be perfectly clear, I did not ever get to meet Mr Thurston, and he never did any work for me. My review applies ONLY to my experience in trying to have him come give an estimate. Mr. Thurston called me at 11:47am on Saturday 17 Nov, proposing to come by my house in Morningside that same day to give me an estimate. After originally suggesting a time within 90min, he learned that he was only a short distance from my house, and said he would be by within 30min. We postposed our lunch, expecting him to arrive. Two hours after his initial call (1:47pm), he had never arrived nor had he called me back to explain. I have not heard from him since. While this is not a reflection on the quality of his work, it does not speak well for his professionalism and courtesy. Timing is important to us, and we can't afford the stress of dealing with someone who may prove to be unreliable.

Description of Work: Called Owner Frank Thurston for an estimate to clean up overgrown backyard, clean roof and gutters and remove debris from front and backyards on Monday 9/17/2012. Frank responded the very same day, and went out to look at the property. He called me on the phone while on the site, and we discussed what I needed to be done. He provided an electronic quote the very same day. The scope of the job was as follows: (1) Front Yard - General cleanup to include: cutting grass, trimming all bushes, picking up all debris, edging, cutting two small dead trees and cutting one tree near the mailbox. (2) Back Yard - General cleanup to include: gathering and removing (back to fence line) all underbrush, privet, and miscellaneous debris; cleaning all ivy from trees, and trimming all bushes. (3) House - General cleanup to include: cleaning roof and gutters.all debris removed from property. Frank indicated that he had fixed the mailbox that was leaning, and removed two other trees that he said were not needed without charging any additional fees.

Description of Work: Mr. Thurston (Frank) came out and met with us and faxed us a detailed specific estimate the same day addressing exactly what we had agreed upon in walking the project. After giving it some thought and review we called him on Monday 8/14 and told him we wished to proceed and agreed his crew would start early on Wednesday 8/16. At least five employees worked very hard for two full days, finishing on the evening of 8/17. Several large dumpsters were removed including an estimated five tons of scrub brush, large bushes and small trees. Frank checked with me periodically to see if we had any concerns at all and our overgrown forest was totally removed down to the ground except for the trees which we wished to save. Before paying him we again walked the total scope of work and we were very satisfied. He called us the next day to see if there was anything they had missed or we were not happy with. We would definitely use his company again. I spent my career doing construction inspection for local government and have a seasoned cynicism about many firms who do contract work; I felt very comfortable with this company and knew they were on the level. My wife was very particularly about some aspects of the work which also included trimming and pruning existing plants that were to be preserved and she is quite pleased as well.

Description of Work: Dear Mr. Thurston, On February 15, 2012 we met with you to discuss lawn care, to include tilling, seed, straw & fertilizer in the backyard. Trimming all bushes, as needed, maintain front yard – mowing, edging, weed & feed, as needed. We agreed to call him about 3 to 4 days ahead of time to schedule having the work done. The three of us agreed to a cost of $2500. To cover all work through November. A check was written to you on 2/15/2012, check #2416, was given to you that day, in the amount of $2500.00. On 2/17, you and your helpers came in and prepared the back yard by tilling, raking, seeding, fertilization & straw. Also, trimmed Crape Myrtles, Wiggelia, Butterfly Bushes and decorative bushes in the front yard. All trimmings & leaves were hauled away. Front lawn and side lawns were mowed & edged. Last week in March I called to schedule lawn care for the first week in April. April 2, Mowed old grass in front & sides, edge, fertilized. You told as to wait about a week to give the new grass a chance to get a good root system. April 11, Called (out of area) left message no return call. April 12, Called Frank, he said they would be here by 9:00am on 4/14. 4/14 - You arrived at 11:45 – mowed, edge, blew leaves off. Did not trim, any bushes but especially the ones by kitchen window and left about 3:00. 4/25 Emailed Frank (attached) and called him to set up time for work to be done. 4/30 – Frank came mowed & edge, trimmed back bushes. Will be back to clean flower beds & plant the new purchases in a couple of days. However you never did come back & he had to plant them himself. May 15 – Called at 9:30 am needing service, he said he would come later in the week. I talked to him about the Willow Tree and the suckers growing on the Crape Myrtles. He said he would call before he came out. May 21 – We called and asked when he was coming, he told us he would be out in a couple of days. There was no further contact until I called him and asked about getting a refund & letting him let us find someone else to do our work. May 25 – Called Frank & discussed his returning some of the money to us and letting us find someone that needed the work. May 27 – We found another company to come out, the grass in the backyard was 3 feet tall – bushes were excessively tall, we could no longer wait for you to respond. They mowed, trimmed and did an allover yard clean up. They also applied weed & feed to front yard only. We were charged $140.00. May 31 – 4:25 left message for Frank – wanted to know what you decided? June 1 – 10:02, called Frank, left message for his decision. June 4 – 9:00 spoke with Frank, does not want to give any money back. He asked us to please give him another chance, he promised this would never happen again he would be there for us when we needed him. SO we said we would give him one more chance. June 14 – Frank was out did mowing & hedge trimmed. July 9 – Called Frank at 9:02 told him we had a special party on Saturday, 7/14th & wanted yard cleaned before that. Ask him if they could be here on Wednesday & he said no problem. Once again he apologized for not taking care of business before. He said I didn’t need to worry he would be out & do a good job for us! July 12 – Called 9:39 & ask Frank where he was on Wednesday – had to leave a message – No return call! July 12 – Called Frank again at 1:10 - - Had to leave a message again – getting nervous. No return call. July 13 – Mr. Member called at 10:58 – again left a message for Frank, telling him we had to have it done Friday. No return call & No yard work done. July 14 – We had an anniversary party , about 50 people present – The yard needed to be mowed & cleaned up. Bushes needed to be trimmed – Pictures attached. July 30 – Called Frank at 1:50 - - Said he would write us a check for a few hundred dollars. I asked him what he thought a few hundred dollars was. Said he would have to work out figures and would call me back later tonight. July 31 – 9:09 am called Frank, he said he would get back with me later this afternoon – not last night and he said that is when he will call me. Said he got in late last night (7/30) and this is early in the morning. Frank said he did work on this last night, I asked him if he was going to keep messing around with us & he told me NO! I said, “You are beginning to worry me,” and he said, “I don’t mean to, I will call you later this afternoon.”

Description of Work: My yard had been completely neglected for more than 3 years and had really become an eye sore. Frank and his team removed and replaced shrubs, weeded flower beds, trimmed trees and bushes, removed leaves, and put down mulch. They did an EXCELLENT job.
