About us

Southeast Restoration Group (SRG) is an award-winning, licensed general contractor specializing in insurance repair claims. These claims range from total fire loss to storm & hail damage. Our mission is simple yet the absolute core of our business: To restore lives while repairing property. It might make more sense for us to put “repairing property” first since that is what we do, operationally speaking. However, as our President and CEO Ben Looper likes to remind us, restoring lives always comes first because we care most about people. SRG offers several different services, including 24/7 emergency repair, tree removal, and board up services. We are proud to be the first general contractor to offer Emergency Living Units (ELU) to our customers. Our ELU’s are equipped for homeowners of major losses to stay on site and not leave their damaged property unattended. Ultimately, we structurally restore homes with top quality project management and craftsmanship. Our project managers are the hands and feet of our operations and are professional and relational. A recent homeowner stated she felt as though the project manager had become a part of the family. For us, that is a wonderful reward. Coverage Area: SRG covers all of North Georgia and well as the Southwest corner of the state. Our branch offices are located in Athens, Calhoun, Canton, and Columbus. -Certifcations: HAAG Certified EPA Lead-Safe Certified Firm BBB Accredited- Awards & Recognition: 2007 & 2011 Performance Excellence Award- Crawford Contractor Connection 2010 Excellence in Innovation Award- Lt. HORRIBLE COMPANY! I should have checked the reviews more thoroughly before hiring. Project Manager inadequate. Project took three months when it should have taken one month. Workers came out once a week only (if they came out at all). They were constantly either late and sometimes didn't show up at all which was inexcusable when homeowner had taken the day off to be home. Their excuses ranged from "held up at Home Depot", "traffic", "personal family issues", "truck issues" and sometimes used the same excuse twice (I think they recycle them and reuse them!). Project Manager NEVER initiated next service date - always had to be called and 'reminded' - THEN he would call back and set something up that many times fell thru. One worker ('lead' worker) was insolent and rude on three occasions and I was getting ready to kick him off the property and cancel the entire contract. I will not be disrespected in my own home. Work was often left half done. The baseboards and trim was supposed to be painted white - they painted it yellow! When I complained, I was asked "Don't you like yellow?" Needless to say I made them repaint it white which added another week to the completion date since they apparently could only work one day per week! Workers were often loud and could barely communicate in English - I had to call a coworker who was bilingual to ask them a question! I will never recommend this company to anyone. Horrible frustrating experience from start to finish.
Response from Southeast Restoration Group
"We are sorry to hear the feedback on your project and apologize that you did not have an exceptional experience. After reviewing the project further, I feel it is important to clarify that we do agree that the timeline on the project was longer than we targeted as well. However, in many cases our trade partners were not allowed access to the property and encountered further delays due to your availability. The trade partners mentioned in your email have been trusted members of our team for many years and speak clear English. The paint for baseboards was color matched to the existing trim in the rest of the home, which is standard practice unless the customer requests a color change, which was not requested. We do appreciate your feedback and will take all the items mentioned into consideration for opportunities to improve the service we offer our customers."

Was quoted one amount. After work was begun and partially completed their representative arrived and demanded additional money and threatened to send everyone home, and charge restock fees if i did not pay the additional amount immediately.

"[Member Name Removed], Thank you for taking the time to speak with me yesterday. We will take your feedback into consideration as it is our goal to provide an excellent experience for every customer. Anytime a customer requests changes to the scope of work, it is our goal that all questions are addressed in a written and signed Change Order. We acknowledge that you felt you were being presented an Invoice and not a Change Order to the original contract. I regret that we were unable to find a way to accommodate your requests after the job had been completed and paid in full. We will be taking this as a learning opportunity in our continued commitment to serving with excellence!"

The tree branch had gone there the roof. I had to have a new roof on the garage as a matter of fact. I have a free standing detached garage. When the insurance company came out to evaluate the roof, they said there was enough wind damage, hail damage and other debris done to my house that I really needed a whole new roof, which was wonderful. They gave me several options of people that they could recommend. I went with Southeast Restoration. They did a good job. I was not thrilled with their gutter people but the guys who did the roofing did an excellent job. The biggest problem with roofing is picking up all the gad blame nails. The ones that end up on the ground instead of in the roof or that came out of the old roof. when they lift the old off all those roofing nails go everywhere. They put down tarps all around my house. They had one of those big garbage bin things out there that they have to bring in with the truck. They swept as much as they could and picked up everything they could find. I did still find some after they left but I was not surprised. I knew there would be some. They couldn't get everything. Especially because there's so much, I don't have a nice green tidy lawn. You know, I've got trees, leaf debris, limbs and all that. You don't have, there's no kind of grass that will grow in this kind of shade, another words. But Anyway they did an excellent job of re-roofing the house and then cleaning up afterwards. It was December before they could get here to do the roof. Well first I had to pick someone to do it. Well first I had to wait for the insurance company to do their evaluation. The arborist people had gotten the top overhead that had relived a lot of the immediacy. I still wanted the whole in my kitchen ceiling fixed and Southeast Restoration was recommended. They were one of the outfits of maybe three and these where the folks who where the most responsive and the fitted their price into what the insurance company was willing to pay for the work. Which was excellent for me. It didn't cost me anything but my deductible. They were good. I There were some thing. I had some much going on with my family rite at that time. I wanted to be here while they were working but instead I had to go to a funeral. An unexpected funeral when they were coming to do the roofing. The guys who did the kitchen ceiling weren't as punctual as they should have been and they didn't do quite as good as job as I thought they should have. But it was good enough and I let it go. So obviously i did it bad. I probably would call them in again and just keep a closer eye on things.

SRG was removed from our project due to poor quality of work, poor structural integrity in the work completed and a significant amount of damage caused by them.  They also exhibited very poor customer service.  Our rebuilding process was slow to start due to permitting process.  Rebuild began early July 2014 with the removal of roof.  Work had to stop due to heavy rains moving in for the next 5 days.  SRG instructed the subcontractor, a framing company, to tarp the roof, to prevent water from entering our house.  The tarp was poorly installed, hence heavy rains caused water intrusion in the home.  No one from SRG was checking on the house during all the rain.  We, the homeowner, discovered the severe amount of water damage to the home and had to call SRG as they had not been to the house to do any form of inspection.  SRG admitted fault and claimed they would make it whole again.  The total damage to the house at this point is approximately 80%.  We had a severe mold issue as well.  SRG attempted to rebuild the home and used lesser quality materials than we had agreed to.  The new roof trusses were not correctly installed as well as the new sub flooring.  We hired our own Structural Engineer to detail all the problems in the home.  The list is extreme to post.  We released SRG as the builder of our home in Oct. 2014.  To date, we have not yet received any funds from SRG for all the damages that occurred, due to their negligence in July 2014.  This does not include all the problems we will have to have fix based on the Structural Engineers Report.

They were not really that great. I got connected with them through my insurance when a tree hit our house and smashed a corner of the house. They did not do a good job of tarping the house. The insurance agreed to pay the price that they quoted. I don’t know why I did not do some research to decide on who would put the roof so I used them. Though only a little corner was smashed the insurance agreed to replace the whole roof so they replaced the whole roof. It turned out worse because now I have leaks which I didn’t have before like around the chimney and dormer window. I am not sure if I should even bother calling them or if I should call someone decent and pay them for getting it fixed. I talked to the insurance company and they informed me that they had to do it right so they came back a week ago. I had to call them back because they completed sealed up a place where there was supposed to be a spotlight outside. They did not do a good job so I would not be recommending them.
Response from Southeast Restoration Group
"Upon notice of property damage and request to repair, a tarp was placed on the roof to serve as a temporary repair until permanent repairs could be made. The tarp is serviceable to mitigate further damage in non-adverse conditions but due to the strong winds from additional storms in the area, the tarp could not adequately secure the property. The customers concerns were immediately addressed and the job was completed timely and to satisfaction in Sept of 2013. SRG did not receive any communication regarding complaints or requests for warranty repair from Mrs. [member name removed] from the time the job was completed until May 2014 concerning a small roof leak from a dormer which was immediately addressed and corrected."

Southeast Restoration was hired in June of 2009 to rennovate my home due to water damage. Their subcontractors hired unprofessional day laborers. I was unable to communicate with the workers that were in my home. When they replaced my floors, they replsced them with sub par flooring and didn't level the sub floors before installing them, and  my flooring began cupping days after installation. The painting in my home was far from professional and had to be "repaired" numerous times and and is still not correct. My wood kitchen cabinets were replaced with particle board, and are unlevel and some do not match. The crown moulding is detaching from my ceiling and the base boards are detaching from my wall. All of my kitchen appliances were installed incorrectly as were the granite countertops. Miost of their work had to be redone. Finally in 2011 my project manager informed me that they would no longer be working in my home to repair the work they had done.

Response from Southeast Restoration Group
"While SRG was performing property repairs to the customers home, we were made aware that the condensation pump in the crawlspace home failed, and was unrelated to the repairs being performed at the time. The subsequent and unrelated damage was confirmed by her insurance carrier and another contractor. The moisture from the failed condensation pump and the water it generated caused the new floors that were installed from the previous loss to warp. As a courtesy to the homeowner and in an attempt to help her with this issue SRG extracted the water and dried her crawlspace without charging for the services. The homeowner is not in agreement with the independent findings of the insurance carrier and contractor on the cause of floor warping being caused by the condensation pump and is therefore disputing outstanding balance owed to SRG."
