Jamies Handyman Services

I do not recommend Jamie’s Handyman Services at all. I hired James to skim one wall in my bedroom to remove the texture. After 3.5 hours of work spread out across two days, the wall still showed texture and there was drywall mud caked up and smeared on doorframes and baseboards. The material is not smooth or even. Several areas of our doorframes were sanded down so much that the paint was taken off. Material was smeared on the adjacent wall and ceiling that was not being worked on. Wall texture still shows through in several areas and isn’t smooth. Drywall mud was caked up in the ceiling edge. Pock marks and divots were found in several areas along the wall. Drywall mud isn’t smoothed out to the baseboards, doorframes, and corners. You can clearly see the old texture showing through in several places. I filed a complaint and James returned to resolve the issues. He was defensive about every issue I pointed out. He kept saying, “Wallpaper is going to cover that,” and refused to fix anything. My husband said if we are unhappy with the work that we feel he should try to fix the problem. He still refused. Two days prior, James called me after I filed my complaint and told me he’d come by and fix whatever problems there were. But then he showed up with an attitude and refused to resolve anything, using wallpaper as an excuse for his poor quality of work. I was confused why he sounded accommodating on the phone two days before but was the complete opposite when he returned to our home to fix the issues. I asked, “Why did you come back today if you’re not willing to fix anything?” He said, “I thought it was going to be a bigger deal than this.” That statement made me feel that he does not value us as customers because he belittled each issue that we asked him to fix. I told him I felt like I shouldn’t have told him about the plan to hang wallpaper because he would’ve done a better job. I don’t feel that he did his best work at all. He didn’t take any of our concerns seriously nor did he care that we had a negative experience. I told him if he’d taken extra steps like removing the fuse box cover and maybe laying down painter’s tape before he started wall skimming, some of the issues could’ve been avoided. Halfway through the job, James had finally removed the fuse box cover, realizing it was in the way. He got so much drywall mud on it that he had to walk outside to wash it off with the watering hose. He then screwed the fuse box cover back onto the wall before the wall was dry. He forgot to turn the watering hose off and left it running for the next 4 hours until I walked outside to see it spraying water everywhere next to our house. I had to walk through mud and get my clothes wet in order to reach the valve to turn it off. I brought this incident to James’s attention and he said, “Well, I didn’t know your water hose leaked.” We told him it doesn’t leak, that it was spraying almost to full capacity when I went outside and saw it, and that I had to turn the valve three times to cut the water off. He seemed intent on shifting the blame for the bad experience onto us instead of taking responsibility for his mistakes. James told us, “Whatever. Go ahead and do whatever you’re gonna do,” and walked out the front door and left. I would also like to note that James arrived at our home smelling strongly of cigarettes to the point that I started to feel nauseated even being a few feet from him. I had to spray odor eliminator throughout our house after he left because the smell still lingered. This just added to the unprofessional experience we’ve had with him. Angi reached out to James to either fix the drywall skim job or refund my money, but he has refused to do either one. Angi has removed him from their network due to noncooperation. I hope anyone considering Jamie’s Handyman Services will read this review and hire someone else instead.

Jamie was fabulous! He helped me as I (a bit neuroticly) went through all the broken bits and pieces in my home. You know when you have a bunch of little things to be fixed but it takes the one big thing to make you snap and go “Aggghhh enough already!” Well, I did. Jamie was kind and understood what I had happening and offered to fix all my little broken bits while he was fixing the big broken things. My washing machine tanked out and I could have called someone to fix just that but the money I spent on him and his multiple skills saved me from having to call 5 different people and all their charges to just fix it all at once under one hourly charge. I appreciate his diversity and the charges I had were considerably less than if I had to have multiple folks through here. Plus I don’t like all sorts of people through my house, neither do my 3 large dogs which just loved him too. It was very convenient to have one person fix all my mess. I highly recommend Jamie Davidson because I break a lot of stuff and he always says “no problem” or “I can’t fix that but I can tell you who might.” He is honest and helpful and now is on my speed dial.
