Description of Work: The work crews, themselves, were fantastic. The original planner we worked with was excellent, but ended up leaving the company before the job was complete. The scheduler was very bad. To start, a computer "glitch" lost our order and account, though they had received from us the required down payment. It was only after my calling because we did not receive the promised pre-installation call that we discovered the error. The demolition team did not come with any warning. That team had to help with moving items, for which I was grateful. We paid for a site planner, but I could not tell you who that was. Crews would show up and ask me what the work schedule was for the day. Twice, I had to make a speaker phone call to the designer/sales rep so that the crew and I knew what was to be done that day. Part of the renovation in one bathroom was not accurately done to expand the shower, the company did make an adjustment to the bill. There was never, even after a number of mistakes were made and discovered, a site supervisor because "we were close enough to the store that all could be managed over the phone." Obviously, the internal communication and communication between business and client was a VERY BAD experience. Though the individual crews did amazing work; the experience with the company would make my recommendation to any prospective customer: "run now, run fast, run far."

Description of Work: Renovated a 1990's style main bathroom into a modern space that is inviting and comfortable. Replaced a jacuzzi tub with a soaker tub, rebuilt the shower to include a seat and fully tiled area. Heated floor and built-ins. They did it all. Minimum amount of fuss and they showed up when they said they would, did a great job and cleaned up after themselves.

Description of Work: They put granite in my kitchen. All went very well except they did not cut granite correct and my fan could not go up and down. They were very responsive and came the next day to fix it.

Description of Work: SUMMARY. Affinity took our order for kitchen countertops, then (without calling us to view/select the slab) they cut the wrong color and installed 90% of the tops before I noticed the error. The manager tried to convince me there was no mistake, contradicting himself several times in the process. He also claimed he shared my complaints with the owner, but if so she made no attempt to contact me or rectify the mistake. In the end, I paid full price for the wrong color countertops, with no apology. | |DETAILS: we had a sample and quote for "Napoli Gold" which had yellow/red tint and highlights, and a separate sample and quote for a cheaper "Giallo Napoil" which had greener tint and brown highlights; every retailer in the area carries Giallo Napoli from Brazil which has the same consistent color and pattern, and virtually no variation across slabs no matter where you buy it. The Affinity office staff clearly referred to Giallo as being "greener" in an email. We ordered Napoli Gold, but Affinity never called us to select a slab; they only called when they had countertops ready to install. The morning after installation, I told the office staff I wanted to see the samples because they installed the greener Giallo Napoli. When I went in, the "Napoli Gold" sample had mysteriously disappeared, and an employee told me there is no such thing as Napoli Gold and that they "have not written 'Napoli Gold' on a sample in years"; it seemed impossible that this employee really believe what he said, because he was involved when my wife and I first came in to look at slabs and collect samples. Later, I spoke to the manager, who said the sample must have been given to another customer. He then spent an hour trying to convince me that Napoli Gold is the same as Giallo Napoli, and that both come from the distributor as Giallo, even though they gave me TWO different samples, and TWO different quotes at TWO different prices. He showed me three different samples of Giallo Napoli that all looked exactly the same, and tried to convince me that one was Giallo and the other Gold. He show me two different slabs in the same "Giallo" bin at his warehouse and tried to convince me one was Giallo and the other Gold. At my house, he said Napoli Gold was lighter, but 30 minutes later in his warehouse he said Napoli Gold was darker. It was frankly the most ridiculous conversation I've had in years, and I am not sure why I spent more than 5 minutes listening to him. Whenever I asked to speak to the owner, the manager stalled. Ultimately, I didn't have time to keep pressing the issue so I paid the balance so they would complete the installation. The quotes make it clear that there were two different colors, but without the original sample it was difficult to prove I received the wrong color.

Description of Work: Overall the experience was ok. We love our new bath, but the process could have been smoother. I will say we are partially responsible because we had not worked with many companies to do major renovations. | |In our next project with a contractor, we would be much clearer on the exact items they will and will not complete. They cut a hole in a wall that we had determined would not be cut prior to the start of the project. It appears the internal team and contractors may not have the best communication. We had to call and ask them to patch the wall (which still does not look good, the patch job was not the best). We did have some other issues along the way and the response was not be best. For example, the plumbers nicked the custom cabinets and when the cabinet man came to do the final touches he was not aware that the nick needed to be fixed. | |Again, overall we are happy with the outcome. We would just be very clear on the final details prior to any work being done and we would monitor the process much more closely to prevent mistakes from happening.

The experience was positive from sale to installation. Affinity's price was competitive with other granite shops in their area.

They have a nice selection of granite in their showroom and I think the prices were fair. The staff were helpful and delivered on time. The problem as with the installation. In the showroom, they said how careful you need to be with granite when working with it and showed my how they very, very carefully laid one piece on top of another they were bringing out to show the color to me. This piece was maybe 8 inches square. However, when the guys came to install my countertops, one of them heaved a big section (2'x2")on top of another section that was already installed and SLAMMED it down hard right on the edge then slide it over. I couldn't believe it after the showroom demo. Only later did I see the crack in the granite in exactly the spot where he slammed it down. Not a large crack but still a crack. The owner came out and put some sealant in it but didn't act like very concerned about how it happened. So my recommendation is to go to Affinity to look at colors and patterns of granite then go elsewhere to purchase.

Affinity did a great job. In the future, I would probably use them again, but I I would do a little more shopping around for price before starting the job. The price includes upgraded edges, which increased the cost.
Description of Work: Affinity put in new granite in the kitchen and did some carpentry.
