THROWN OFF THE JOB - FULL PAYMENT SENT VIA CERT. MAIL 5.20.2015 I decided to use Cullen Painting because of their price and ratings on Angie's List (AL). Unfortunately, the work performed DOES NOT in any way match the "A" ratings. May 18: The workers arrived in the morning the started pressure cleaning the house. I decided to go out and see how the work was progressing and found the pressure person on my roof. I was very concerned because there is NO REASON for a painter to be on a roof, especially when the house is one story. I called Brenda and the excuses changed as the conversation continued through her husband and onto the foreman which left the job before the pressure cleaner got started. Imagine that liability claim if the worker fell off the roof. The pressure cleaner knocked out my electricity. The foreman tried to get the house back on by flipping the main power switch and the GFCI safety switch. The power surges might have ruined my refrigerator which now flickers ever time the doors are opened. The power was off for 2-3 hours to which Mr. Cullen said, that happens because those switches can be tricky. After twenty-five years of experience you think Cullen Painting would cover the electricity boxes and outlets before they let a guy with a high power pressure cleaner loose on the house...how lame. The electricity should not go out when you paint or pressure clean a house, period. Though the contractor will tell you differently even though, to my knowledge, he's not a licensed electrician. The foreman and I walked around the house before work started and I asked him if he needed to pressure clean the enclosed patio...NO, we will only do some light SCRAPING. The excuse after the pressure cleaner went onto the patio and started pressure cleaning with all the furniture, plants and nick-nacks in place was classic. Another call to the office and more excuses. The prep work was downright lousy. I have the photos and will place them on AL when I get my new computer. Not only was the house not properly cleaned, they did not properly calk or prime the naked concrete...let me repeat, they did not properly calk or prime the naked concrete. They also painted over "new" window calking...the excuse from Mr. Cullen's mouth...you want all of that dirt and mold showing...I reminded him the windows were installed in September of 2014. He offered to replace the calking, I told him to get a properly state licensed professional to do the work. They also painted the front door insulation. May 19-20: The workers arrived at about 8:30 and worked for about five hours. They painted over the utility boxes even though I told Mr. Cullen not to. His excuse they were already painted,to which I responded, I told you not to paint them, it's not to code. His workers also PAINTED OVER THE EAVES VENTS...I will have to call in a professional to have those fixed and will hand the bill to the contractor. All of the prep work (tape, plastic window coverings, etc) were removed on May 19. On May 20, the foreman arrived and started replacing all of the lighting fixtures on the patio. I asked him when was he going to do the second coat, he said, we did that yesterday, he was only here to do the trim, a second time. I called for Mr. Cullen and quite frankly, after all of the excuses and lies, I had just about had my fill of the Bovine Manure. He proceeded to blame the house, the person who painted the house before, which by the way, was the original developer and my anger for the mistakes made on this job. The argument will take up more than allowed on this web site. We discussed having another crew come out next Wednesday, Cullen refused to give me an ETA. After thinking about it, I called and left a message for he or his company not to come back. To recap: the "professional" did not properly prep the house, knocked out the electricity, NO REASON for being on the roof, painted over the utility boxes, painted over the eaves vents, painted over the window calking, painted over the front door insulation, painted the garage door shut...it almost came off the rails when I pushed the auto door opener. You think, after twenty five years in business the "professional" would have learned how to avoid these problems...by the way...I was a professional house painter (which Mr. Cullen knew), real estate developer and broker...Cullen Painting Got Caught Big Time. The only remedy to these problems; hire a state certified roofer to fix the eaves vents, hired a state certified window contractor to remove the painted calking and have someone come out with some mineral spirits and a tooth bush to fix the utility boxes. I will not allow Cullen Painting Back on the Property. It was so bad that when I pointed to a spot on the eaves where paint was peeling, Mr. Cullen pointed to another spot and said that was nothing. They are not welcomed back. I cannot wait to read the imaginative excuses for such a bad job...you weren't finished? Then why did your guys clean up all of the tape and plastic window coverings if they weren't finished painting? Another error? You do fresh tape and plastic for each coat? Don't believe it. August 24: After reading Mr. Cullen's response I have to say...lies...and how can you file a complaint with the county sheriff's office when you're trespassing and not living up to your contract. On your own contract is said...DO NOT PAINT UTILITY BOXES and you did. There were no two coats of paint, WHICH IS ALREADY PEELING. If this is the quality of your work...find a new line of business.

Everyone that I dealt with at Cullen was very professional. From the estimate on down the line, it was a good experience with each person. Brenda in the office was very helpful and the painters were courteous and careful. They paid attention to detail and if I had a comment on anything, they would handle it until I was satisfied. All in all, a very pleasant experience and I would recommend this company to anyone looking for a good experience.

They return calls quickly & always show up for appointments. Gave me ample opportunity if they had to change an appt., but that rarely happened. Completed work in a timely fashion & got me through "Color-change shock" better than a real therapist. After job was complete I had a few issues with my front door, that they worked quickly & without any conflict to resolve the matter perfectly. I will definitely be using them again.

They actually came two days earlier than they had projected.. The workers were extremely courteous and friendly. The workmanship was of excellent quality. They were extremely neat. There was no disruption. I hardly knew they were here. Anything I asked of them, they did. They went out of their way to please me and in today's world, that's rare. They are definitely an excellent five-star company. I would not hesitate to recommend them to anyone

Scope: 2 coats semi-gloss exterior paint on walls, trim and garage door, plug fill cracks in stucco and re-caulked. Application technique: Sprayed and rolled in. Excellent and very through work! Easily scheduled, completed job ahead if schedule, and cleaned up after. I highly recommend them to others looking for a high quality job performed by an ethical and honest contractor. No deposit was required in advance, and payment was only made once the job was inspected by myself and the company owner, and the owner was assured I was pleased with the work and expectations were met. Cullen Painting sets a very high bar and I can only hope every service provider I hire performed as well.

After seeing the glowing reviews here, I sent a message to Cullen with a few questions regarding having my house painted before selecting the deal that was being offered. The communication from Brenda Cullen was above par! Each of my questions was answered pretty quickly and without rush. It was clear to me that this company was truly a group of knowledgeable professionals who would take care of me, as a customer, and my house. They were able to start within days of my electing an Angie?s List deal and I could not be happier with the results! My house looks absolutely amazing and the attention to detail the crew gave is clearly evident. Brenda was kind enough to suggest a color for the trim, which I hadn?t even thought of picking beforehand. I also wanted concrete the patio/pool deck painted to match the house, which wasn?t included in the deal. The price was beyond reasonable and though it is a different surface that required a different product, it matches exactly. My whole experience with Cullen Painting was absolutely fantastic. If you are looking for a company that cares about their customer and does an amazing job, look no further!

Great job, great experience! It all started when I called for an estimate. Brenda actually answered the phone. I had called several other companies and gotten an answering machine. One of those companies has still not called me back. Brenda was friendly and helpful. She set up the appointment for her husband Tony to come out to do the estimate and the next day he showed up right on time. We walked around the house and talked about what we wanted and Tony pointed out some areas that had issues and explained how they would address and fix them. He was very professional and helpful. We had not settled on a paint color and he went out to his truck and pulled out a color sample fan and made a couple of suggestions based on what I had told him and left it with us. We actually ended up using one of those suggested colors and are thrilled with the choice. The next morning I received the quote outlining the scope of work and the cost. We were thrilled with the price. We got other quotes and theirs was by far the best. We called and scheduled them to come out to do the job and sure enough they showed up right as scheduled. His crew did a huge amount of prep work repairing stucco, masking off the windows, pressure cleaning the whole house, caulking around the windows and putting on a sealer coat. And then did the painting. His crew was friendly and hard working. They did a very professional job. The neighbors have even commented on what a great job they did and how good it looks. As the crew was finishing up, Brenda came and did a final walk through with me to make sure everything had been done to our satisfaction. It was. I would absolutely recommend Cullen Painting.

Only one word can describe Cullen Painting, and that is "Exceptional". I am a picky person when it comes to the quality of work, and not only did Cullen Painting fully meet my expectations but exceeded it. Great communication skills with Brenda. The job started on the date it was scheduled. Anthony the owner was there every day to see how the job was progressing and to address any concerns I might have. The paint crew were punctual and worked the full day. The crew took pride in their workmanship, and when the job was finished they had me walk around the project to see if I had any additional concerns. The entire exterior of my house was painted by Cullen Painting. The crew (Wagner, Lucas, and Isaiah) tried to start on November 17 but had to work around the South Florida weather. The constant (prompt) emails from Brenda through the quote, color selection, and follow up was the kind of due diligence that has been previously reported on Angie?s List. The crew was extremely courteous and diligent as they showed up early (8am) and got right to work (weather permitting). The initial contract was for two coats ($3,200) but I insisted for a third coat of paint. Brenda tried to talk me OUT of getting a third coat and insisted that I needed only two coats (I have the emails to prove it). My wife and I are very happy with the great paint job that Cullen Painting provided.

Cullen Painting was terrific! They were very attentive from the start. They came out promptly for an estimate. They used two gentlemen who were always extremely punctual and hard working. They were careful with personal items and landscaping, while making the necessary repairs and painting the house. The work was really done quite well. I asked them to paint the house the same color it had, but it was still a noticeable difference in improvement. Even though it was the same color, they made the house look brand new! There was one crack I noticed after they were done, but it was quickly addressed by the company with no hassle. I was very pleased with how efficient they came out, heard my concerns, made the repairs, and painted the house. Overall, I highly recommend them!

The crew was on time and very courteous. The work was professionally done. The painting took two days due to the size of the room, details of the trim and the old color. They also had to remove a curtain box and replace some trim molding. We will be using them in the future for the exterior of our house as they did a great job on both our neighbors homes.

Anthony came out to do an estimate and sent me a formal document of the estimate within a few hours of his visit. I had had other contractors out for estimates, but they took a few days to respond and came at a higher price. I needed the pressure wash and painting done right away as I was only in Florida for a week taking care of my parents' rental property, and the Cullen guys were able to start right away! We worked together to make sure the paint colors were perfect (per the HOA) and they did an outstanding job. Payment was simple, cash or check upon completion. I really couldn't have asked for anything more. In terms of work ethic, results, price, communication (the last being the most important, in my book), you won't find a better group. Thank you so much for everything!

Called Cullen painting. Brenda called back the same day. Tony came out two days later and we received an estimate later that day. The prep work was impressive. They pressure washed and scraped to get as much paint off as possible. All windows were taped and they applied the primer and two coats of paint. They did a great job and we would definitely use them again. The painters did a terrific job cleaning up each day and when the job was finished. Brenda and Tony were a pleasure to deal with. We are very happy with our new paint job and strongly recommend Cullen Painting.
