He was always very nice to work with when he was there but you could never count on him. He would often be off at some other job. He even told me about some problems he had at his other jobs. We have had to have the walls sanded and retextured since it was done so badly. I am out the $11,306 I paid him for that. I am not asking for that back since it was my fault for accepting poor quality work. I was just trying to get this project finished. However, I do want the deposits back for the doors and trim and the counters totaling $17,742.71. He just used us and pocketed our money that was meant to restore our condo. We have had enough trauma from our condo being ruined and gutted. And then to keep dragging our project out with his no shows and lying and stealing from us. It has been extremely stressful and has cost us even more money from his delays having to pay additional storage for our furnishings and housing to be in Englewood to supervise the project. Our main home is 2 1/2 hours away. I have called Michael Tucker repeatedly asking him to pay us back even if he has to make several payments or at least make an effort to pay us back. We have received nothing.
Description of Work: Our condo in Englewood, FL was impacted by Hurricane Ian in September 2022. The condo association handled the interior demolition and replaced the drywall. We hired Michael Tucker with Grunt Handyman Services on February 21, 2023 to texture and paint the walls. We gave him a deposit of $5,653 and he began prepping the walls on March 14. 2023. We signed a quote March 14th and gave him a deposit of $8,854 to have him install the doors, baseboards, and crown molding because he said they would take 3-4 weeks to arrive so he needed it as soon as possible in order to expedite our project. It took them almost 4 weeks to prep the walls. There was usually only one guy there working. The walls were textured before the ceilings and none of it was done very well. It was very inconsistent and the ceiling looked like the walls. It was not knockdown as stated in the contract. There was texture on several windows he failed to cover. (Covering all floors and windows was also in the contract) I covered some of the floors myself. He had also been pressuring me to pick out the counters as we had a date set for the template measuring. I did and he got the quote from Marble Technique on April 12th. He said the deposit had to go through him to get the contractor discount. He showed me the quote on his phone and said he would email me a copy. He said he needed 70% to place the order. (turns out they only needed 60%. I gave him the $8,888.71 deposit. They did paint finally. Although it was not quite done, (the laundry room was not done and there was alot of ceiling and wall touch up. Places where they had missed and the dining room ceiling needed another coat.) he asked me to be paid on April 25th and I figured he would be back the next day to finish so I gave him the final painting check for $5,653. Well, he came late the next day to tell me he was sick. I had been there all day waiting for him. Saying he was still sick he did not come the next two days. He said he would get the cabinets in over the weekend and start the base boards and do the counter template the coming week. I have not seen him since. When I got back that Monday he said he had Covid. That Friday Marble Technique called me to ask if we still wanted the counters I had chosen. They said that Michael had cancelled the scheduled template which had caused problems for their crew and had never received the needed deposit to move forward. Michael had still not sent me a copy of the counter quote which I had asked him for at least 4 times. I sent him another text telling him to send it to me by the end of the day in capital letters. I later called him and demanded he pay Marble Technique the deposit. He said he would but never did. He kept saying he would be there to work the next day but he would never come. He finally showed up May 16th and we fired him.
