I wish to review the situation with you. 1. When I requested your quote for the wood flooring job, I specifically showed you the problem area in my master bedroom, told you the remedies I had tried and you assured me that you could fix it, that you had a stain that would match the existing wood. This was one of the main reasons that I went with you to do my flooring job. When I asked how the project went at the end, you assured me everything went great, but when we went to the master bedroom to inspect the spot, it was not corrected and looked no better than before you came. You told you the steps you took to fix it, They were the exact same steps that I had taken and told you when you quoted me the job! 2. When you arrived to start the wood flooring job, you told me that you had misquoted the price and jacked up the price considerably. You didn't tell me when I awarded you the contract, but when you showed up to do the work. At this time I didn't have the option to have someone else come immediately and had already made arrangements to vacate our house while the work was to be done. 3. You had told me you also did tiling work and could do our family room immediately after the wood flooring job. We made plans to vacate the house for 2 weeks to allow this to happen. You failed to provide me a quote for the labor for the tiling job until after the wood flooring job was complete. 4. After you removed the carpet from the family room where the tile was to be laid, you encountered some plywood subflooring that were not flush with each other. I asked you if you were going to use thin-set under the backerboard and you got upset and said "You didn't tell me that the floor wasn't level!" It is the tilers job to ensure that the floor is level and standard practice to use thin-set under the backerboard to make it level. When the job was completed, many tiles (over 12) were uneven with some being over 1/4" difference in height. Very noticeable, both, visually and tactiley. You did not use thin-set and you did not use any leveling system commonly used by tilers to ensure tiles were flush with each other. During the tiling job and when you left, you did not mention the problem areas. When confronted with this fact, your reply was that you" thought it was acceptable." As a result I have had to hire another contractor to redo all your tile work by tearing out your work and replacing it correctly. 5. When you left there was a horrible mess left in our back patio with white dust settled onto our patio and our vegetation. While you made an effort to clean it, you finally gave up and said the rain would remove it in a couple of days. Well, that didn't happen and I had to repaint the patio stone completely to make it look decent. I told you that this was unsatisfactory and that customers wanted their property to look like it did before the contractor came. You shrugged and said that you were sorry it happened, but I still had to clean up after you. 6. The labor cost alone for this is $1750! Your initial quote (the day before you started...) was $2800 and we negotiated down to $2400! In all honesty, I feel you owe me for the necessary redo. I also have to pay for materials. The backerboard and tiles all have to be removed. To say I am unhappy with your work is a vast understatement. I would appreciate a partial refund of your funds to compensate me for my duress and necessity to replace your work. I strongly believe in providing good references as well as bad ones when it calls for it. Your reply to this will tell what kind of a contractor and person you are. I hope it is positive.
