"We are very glad you are so happy with your car - it really did turn out nice. We thank you for your business!"
"We are glad you were very happy with Sam's Mobile Detailing - both in our work and in our service, by coming out to your office to perform the work! It is our pleasure; it's why we are in this business. We have Good News -- we only charged you $79, not $89. We look forward to being of service to you again soon! Call us anytime for an appointment."
But, when I got in the vehicle to drive it, I noticed a problem. The joystick on the built-in GPS/NAV/Sound system was broken. I called and let Sam and Diane know. Sam came out the next day and looked at it. I showed him that it ceased functioning and let him feel it and try to use it so he could feel and see that it was literally about to fall off. He said that his employee had cleaned that area and he expressed that he "never had these kinds of problems before he hired help." Sam and I agreed that it must have been an accident. They guy may not have known he broke it. Maybe the employee was cleaning between the knob and the face panel and pulling the rag dislodged the joystick from the circuit board.
Sam asked me to try to find someone to fix it and let him know the cost. I took it to a reputable body shop. They said that the entire unit needed to be replaced. The part (labor not included) was $1,500 for a used one. The total repair, if a new one were purchased, would exceed $2,000. When I told Sam, he was not happy. He wanted to avoid submitting a claim to his insurance company since it had a deductible and he feared a rate increase. I told Sam that I would try to find an electronics repair vendor to see if the joystick could be reattached to the circuit board to save them money. I tried for weeks. I called all over the Tampa area and al over the country, literally. Without fail, I was told that the entire unti needed to be replaced. When I reported this to Sam and Diane, the problems REALLY started.
Diane denied that they were responsible, at first. From that point I reduced all of my communications to emails so that we would have a record of the dialogue. After some debate, including letting them know I would pursue it legally, they agreed to file a claim with their insurance company. The insurance company contacted me to arrange for their adjuster to inspect the vehicle. The insurance company eventually denied the claim. They said that the coverage that Sam's Mobile Detailing carried did NOT cover anything in their "care, custody, and control" and since they broke the itme they were cleaning, it would not be covered. I told Sam and Diane, via email, and asked what they suggested we do. I was hoping they would offer SOMETHING. I even offeres to accept reimbursement of the repairt on a credit card if their cash flow was tight. They offered NOTHING.
Now I am suing them in order to get the unit replaced.
"In its 6 years of business, Sam’s Mobile Detailing has worked very hard on hundreds of vehicles to earn a fantastic Customer Approval record; while we are working, customers usually come out and offer us water or a bathroom break or take a look at the work, but this customer was not seen by any of the 3 workers until the end of the entire 4 ½ hour job. Something else unusual – Sam has never been accused of whining; this customer asked us for a full detail, yet describes our work here as a “wash and interior clean”. Sam’s applied a high-tech polymer polish using the newer style dual-head buffer to the exterior. The tremendous amount of dog hair removed from all-over the interior set a new record at Sam’s—2 changes of water in the Rainbow vacuum cleaner basin (which, added to the interior’s thick layer of concrete dust, classified this as an “Extreme Detail” and should have been charged accordingly – actually the price this customer reports here should have been charged, but Sam’s kept the price down to $200 including tax)! At the end of the job, the customer told Sam he was selling the vehicle and had already tried to get free warranty repair work done by his dealer for front end damage, to keep the value up, but the dealer declined. How ironic after the job was completed, the customer calls 24 hours later and says his GPS no longer works properly, and how coincidental the big dogs may have had a chance to get back in the vehicle. Sam’s strives for professionalism on every job, which means careful attention to detail is first, and every vehicle is treated as if it were our own. Sam explained to this customer after talking 2 times with the interior detailers and also showing them the pictures, they said nothing went wrong and they did no damage to the car. We have not accepted responsibility and cannot find anything from our standpoint indicating the damage to be our fault. Dogs in the vehicle, accumulated concrete dust or the excessive or normal wear and tear on the multi-functional 7-year-old GPS knob could have created this customer’s problem. Calling our insurance company and finding out how to file a claim on this customer’s behalf, since it would be our first one, was our best and only avenue to aid this customer. When we filed the claim the customer took over, talking to the insurance company and took us out of the loop, when he never sent us the written estimate we had requested for our business consideration during this period. We were so far out of the loop our insurance company did not even give us any notification that the claim had been denied. In the past, Sam’s has stepped forward and claimed responsibility in an incident with a customer, and we agreed upon a mutual resolution. Sam’s continues to get calls from previous customers who want us to come back and detail their second vehicle, get their first vehicle polished again or sometimes they ask us to take our mobile truck out to pressure wash their daughter’s driveways and sidewalks. We regret this customer is not satisfied. Sam’s appreciates this customer’s review and the opportunity to assess our insurance coverage with our agent to see where and how we might improve our benefits for all customers’ vehicles as we would for our own vehicles. We look forward to strengthening our business to improve our Customer Satisfaction at every opportunity!"
