Bill came out within a few days to provide a bid for the requested work. He was able to start the work within 2 weeks of requesting that the work be completed. . He was great at returning calls and dealing with a few minor problems. He returned after I called to have the switch of the electrical outlet replaced. It was miscommunication on my part, for I asked for the outlet to be replaced, didn't realize need to include the switch. He also remedied a problem with a switch plate not working with the new tile thickness. He arranged for Miricle Method to come out and repair a chip caused by a tile accidentally falling on the stove. There was no charge for this service. He made a call to me one night in the midst of the work to make sure that I was satisfied with the work being done. He also was able to add a request for a custom made shelf to the initial order without any difficulty. The work was done in 4 days. Very satisfied with the workmanship, and Bill was so easy to work with and commuicate with. I think the cost of this work was very reasonable.
Description of Work: We had 22 Sq. ft. of ceramic tile put on the backsplash of the kitchen counters. Repair and replacement of rotten wood on a front doorway threshold. and then repainted. 2 electrical outlets replaced. A china cabinet door repaired. He customed made a shelf for the kitchen window.

We took advantage of an Angie's List offer to have a consulting session to get our remodel off the ground. Bill was helpful in getting us moving in the right direction. He gave us a quote (and even updated it a couple times as we kept changing plans) and then we booked him to do the work. We were delayed by two days on the start time, but Bill finished the entire job in 6 working days. Each night, the entire area was cleaned up with all materials and supplies put away. Bill was very communicative about when to expect him and showed us throughout the process what he was doing, giving us choices about placement of plumbing, electrical, etc. We were very pleased with Bill and his work. I am amazed that he collects no money up front. We used his discount at a tile shop and he put it on his account and we paid for it at the end. His final bill was lower than his estimate and even included some supplies. We will absolutely be calling Bill again to help us in the future and have already recommended him to friends.
Description of Work: Bill consulted with us and helped us create a plan to remodel our bathroom. We had limited funds and Bill was agreeable to let us do much of the work ourselves. We completed the demolition and Bill went to work. He built a new half wall as well as a custom shower floor tiled with river rock. He installed a new ceiling fan and moved our plumbing, both for a new toilet location and a larger shower. We will finish the cultured marble shower, glass enclosure and tile floor ourselves.

We hired Craftman Service Co (owned by Bill Shephard) thinking that we would save substantial money relative to hiring a full-service contractor. Mr. Shephard's bid was a good 50% lower than other bids, although in the end we didn't save nearly as much since a lot of the finishes such as toilet, vanity, mirror, shower enclosure, hardware and fixtures, etc. were purchased separately. The other contractors did include an allowance for these items on their contract. What we didn't anticipate is the loss of time and peace of mind that working with this company would turn into. Tear up of the old bathroom went well and reasonably fast. Dust was well controlled. Mr. Shephard was quite pushy about getting rid of the bathroom?s built-in, floor-to-ceiling cabinet and using up the space to enlarge the shower (we explained to him that the cabinet was sorely needed). Luckily, we stood firm and the layout of the new bathroom is pretty much identical to the old one. He installed the shower threshold sloping along the length rather than toward the shower. During the time he was making it, Mr. Shephard insisted that?s the way it should be (?) and that the glass enclosure should be cut at an odd angle to match it up. The glass company had to cut the door to accommodate the odd slope. Bottom line: water does pool on the threshold and runs to the floor every time the shower is used. When the bathroom floor was torn up, the original (50 year old) door threshold got exposed, and it was clearly worn and ugly relative to the rest of the bedroom floor (which has recently been refinished). Before the floor tile was installed, I asked Mr. Shephard if it would be possible to replace that board, which would have been a 5 minute job at that point and virtually impossible after installing the new floor. He willfully ignored my request and proceeded to install the bathroom floor. Bottom line: There is now a 50-year-old-looking board between the new bathroom floor and refinished bedroom floor, which is the first thing you see as you enter the bathroom and sticks out like a sore thumb. Not good. The tile work was a disaster. (1) The three walls that have a bull-nose were laid with the tile running from left to right whereas the bull-nose was laid right to left. As a consequence, the grout lines very visibly don?t line up. (2) He left a 1? grout line between the door casing and the adjacent tiles, which would have been very easy to avoid. The drywall on both sides of the wall had to be torn down anyway in order to install a new pocket door, so the door opening could have been easily moved ?? to one side in order to avoid this eye sore of a grout line. (3) The tiles are generally not well installed as there are uneven gaps and not flush everywhere. (4) The ceramic tile we chose for the floor has a pattern consisting of a darker patch on a lighter background. The floor as installed looks like a checkerboard as he managed to butt up the dark patch of one tile with the lighter area of the adjacent ones. The bathroom floor is really small, and making it look right would have implied rotating 3 or 4 tiles 90 degrees one way or the other (it?s more complicated to describe than it is to do it). When I politely brought up my discontent with the overall tile job to Mr. Shephard, I got his typical shoulder shrug and deer in the headlights look. Bottom line: Despite Mr. Shephard?s big claims about making it right for the customer, I was never given the opportunity to be 100% satisfied with his heinous tile job. Mr. Shephard built the abovementioned bathroom cabinet and nailed the maple face to the sides, then covered the holes and gaps with putty (there were LOTS of gaps). It?s the first time I see a fine cabinet nailed together. When I asked why he didn?t use pocket screws, he said ?it?s not possible to do.? One of the shelves fell down in the middle of the night. When I brought this up, he argued with me that the shelf had been installed correctly (obviously not the case). Given his negative response, I realized that he wasn?t interested in making it right to us, so I yanked the face frame and rebuilt it with pocket screws; I also installed the shelves correctly and repainted and stained everything. It now looks perfect. (To his credit, he helped me identify the way to make the stain color match the vanity, which had been purchased separately.) Bottom line: his stubbornness and unwillingness to do things the right way forced me to spend my own time to fix major things that he was being paid to do. What makes this especially aggravating is that all the while he kept boasting about being ?a professional? who has ?especial tricks?, etc. etc. Pocket door. He left a huge 3/8? gap between the door casing and the wall. It looked as though the entire door assembly was coming off. Look around and you won?t see a professionally-installed door look like that, yet for Mr. Shephard, that was normal and easily fixable with? spackle (lots of spackle!) As the days and weeks went on, he didn?t apply his ?fix?, and at that point it was obvious I would have to step in again. I yanked all the trim pieces and re-nailed them carefully, and now the trim looks as it should. Bottom line: that door job was heinous top to bottom (including not only the trim but the awful stain job as well) and yet again I had to spend my valuable time to fix something he should have done right or fix in the first place. Oh, and he left pieces of plastic wrap in the hidden pocket door which makes a nice sound of crumpled plastic bags every time the door is used. Very unprofessional install. The rest of the doors he installed all had problems of some sort, except for one. He left the last pocket door unfinished (the drywall around it is obviously unfinished). By that time the job was dragging on and on for weeks on end, so it became apparent that a) he had totally lost interest in getting my project finished and b) we would have to cut our losses and finish it ourselves or hire somebody else to do it. And so it was, but to add insult to injury, he demanded full payment for the unfinished job. In fact, he insulted me and belittled me on the phone. He said ?you are the type of guy can?t do anything for cr@p and then expect others to do it right.? Well, whether or not can I do things myself is beside the point, he i the "professional" hired to do the job right in the first place. As I said above, I stepped in only because of his inability and unwillingness to make it right for us. He said that I had "ruined his work" (wow!!). He told me ?You have problems? and ?You have to look at myself in the mirror? all the while he called me a ?bully? (I never insulted him whereas he did, which formally makes him the bully). At some point in the conversation he said that I could ?stick the invoice up my a@s,? which got me really confused since a minute later he was demanding full payment for that same invoice. Consider that at the beginning (when no checks had been written yet) his attitude had been quite different: "I am in this profession for the satisfaction of it"; "It's your money so you are the one who should be 100% satisfied with the finished job"; etc. etc. All this talk now rings of utterly insincere. Very, very unpleasant experience. I paid him the full amount he demanded. Other aggravations: - He would rip into previous customers that he didn?t like or were ?difficult? in his eyes. I?ve never seen a so-called professional do that. - He likes to show up to the job site without proper materials and tools, always helping himself with lumber, paint, whatever is around the house that he forgets (mostly without asking). - He will not shop around. He was pushy about using his own electrician which would have been much more expensive than the one actually used after shopping around. - He and his personnel took the habit of randomly using all of the bathrooms in the house (despite my request that they use the one downstairs) forcing us to clean bathrooms everyday throughout the length of the job. I pointed this out to him a couple of times, to no avail. In summary: If you are looking for a discount contractor and don?t mind the lack of attention to detail and the customer-is-never-right attitude, Craftman Services will probably be fine. Otherwise, stay clear.
Description of Work: 1) Remodel small master bedroom; 2) install 4 30" entrance doors; 3) install 3 pocket doors.

Response from Craftsmen Service Co / 1 Stop
Wow! I wouldn't be in business long if these allegations were true. I don't understand the motivation behind them. We were hired In early October to remodel this clients master bathroom. They wanted to enlarge the shower and possibly relocate the built-in linen closet. After considerable discussion with the home owners it was decided to reduce the size of the cabinet slightly. As for materials, I don't mark up materials. I encourage my clients to shop around, get the best buy. I usually pick up & install what they have purchased. I charge the same labor to install A $40.00 toilet as I do a $400.00 toilet. I don't think marking up materials is a fair way to do business. This is the first I am aware of a problem with the shower threshold (the curb between outside Floor and inside shower). Typically we make them 6" high and 5" wide. Of course, water runs downhill so we slope them at the rate of 1/8" per foot toward the drain. There could be a problem with the door seal. I am always willing to return and correct any problems brought to my attention. The (threshold) in this case the flooring between the bedroom & new bathroom tile, is hardwood flooring. The hardwood in the bedroom had been refinished recently. we started our tile where the refinished flooring left off. I was not aware that they wanted the piece of hardwood replaced as we would have been happy to do so. The tile work we did is perfect. I am proud of it. It's a showpiece - no apologies. This is the first time I have heard of any dissatisfaction about it. There was concern about the wood stain on the linen closet not matching the new vanity. I made a new frame (at my expense) and the customer offered to install it. He had purchased a new pocket screw device and wanted to try it out. We completed the job on October 23rd. They were very happy with the job. At that time they paid the entire invoice, I don't accept any money (including materials) until the job is complete. That has been our policy for 10 years. My clients are never at any financial risk for the work we do. I was contaced by this client again in December to install several doors. I am confused as to why someone would call me back if the had such a bad experience. I Installed several doors in their house five of them were hinged doors, two were pocket doors. There was a slight gap (about 12" down from the top) between the door moulding & the wall on one of the pocket doors. I never suggested we use spackle to remedy the problem. I offered to remove the moulding and replace it. He asked to borrow a wood plane from me and he would shave down the door casing. I explained to him that the wall was sloped slightly and shaving the door wouldn't help. I don't' have any special tricks, I just rely on my experience to solve problems. I take great pride in my work. I think my reviews speak to that. We are a small company, we must prove ourselves on every job. We take it seriously, it's our lively hood and we get great satisfaction for the bathrooms we create. We pride ourselves on constant communication during the process. Being in someones home, tearing things out and putting them back is very stressful to our clients - we know that. Communication on our progress is essential to a smooth remodel. Please take the time to meet me and my crew. We are honest, professional people.

I called Bill and he answered his phone! I like that! I told him we wanted to remove the old shower enclosure and replace it with a "frameless" style. When I asked if the job was too small, Bill replied, "No job is too small." Great attitude! Bill came out on a Sunday evening (worked best for our schedule.) to look at the shower. He measured and since it was not a standard size, he said he would refer us to the company he works with regularly. He also made some suggestions about the project. We were disappointed that he wouldn't be doing the whole project (we wanted him to get the job!) Bill said his company would be glad to remove/dispose of old enclosure and replace the old, moldy caulking. About a week later, they came out and in about an hour had everything removed. Bill came back a few days later to put the finishing touches on the new caulk, so it was all set for when the other company brought the new enclosure. Bill told us if there was any problem after the new enclosure was in, to give him a call. (The company he recommended did a great job with the new enclosure. It looks beautiful.) It was great working with him! We will call him in the future for any remodeling projects we have.
Description of Work: We wanted the old and ugly shower enclosure replaced in our master bathroom.

I called Bill for an estimate to remodel my main bath. He came within a few days to give me an estimate. He could not start the work for about a month which was ok for me since I was in no hurry. He estimated the job would take about 2 wks but it took almost 3 wks. This was not Bill's fault. The company that I ordered the tile from neglected to call and let me know that the tile was on backorder, so that delayed the progress . Bill and his son Luke did as much as they could until the tile came in. Bill was always easy to contact and a pleasure to work with. I love my new bathroom. The price I quoted is for labor and supplies. Bill's price was 4500.00 and the rest was for supplies that I purchased myself.
Description of Work: installed new tub, toilet, vanity, wall and floor tile, door, molding, and fixtures, painted walls and molding, replaced windowsill.

From beginning to end, the whole project was a pleasure. Bill is extremely perfectionist and extremely honest. You can tell he and his workers are skilled professionals. He gave us an estimate (VERY reasonable, considering the amount of work involved) and stuck to it. We coordinated together the choosing and purchase of tile, fixtures and materials, and work started in a timely fashion. Everyone was very personable, polite, hard working, and cleaning up every day after themselves. No one minded all my questions. Amazing: he ALWAYS was available when I needed to contact him! Bill even came back after the shower enclosure was placed (by another company) to make sure everything was correct and siliconed and working fine; this is AFTER payment had been received! Added bonus: Bill got along great with our dogs! We now have a much larger shower, SHOWROOM QUALITY.
Description of Work: Removed shower enclosure, removed old bathroom carpet, tiled shower, making it bigger and repositioning the center as well as the fixtures (shower head and handle), calculated size and shape of marble seat, tiled bathroom floor. Changes both sink faucets also.

Bill takes enormous pride in his work. He, along with his son Luc and associate, Greg, are true professionals. In fact, I would call them perfectionists, first class all the way. They were prompt, courteous, reliable, completely trustworthy and willing to help me economize wherever possible without compromising quality. Bill provided detailed accounts of material and labor costs so there were no surprises. His major concern was always our total satisfaction. We were so pleased with the results of his work, that we have hired him for a complete Master Bath remodel. I wish there was an A+ rating: he would get one in all categories! Thanks, Bill. Can’t wait to see the completed new project! And your new worker, George, does wonderful tile work! To sum up our experience, I have to say that we got much more value for our money than what we paid!
Description of Work: Bill made our poorly designed, unfinished basement into a fabulous living space, complete with entertainment/media room, bedroom/playroom and full bath. He tore out the walls and door at the bottom of the stairs, creating an area both spacious and cozy. He waterproofed the cement block, insulated, framed-in two large rooms plus a bathroom, dry-walled and painted all walls and ceilings, installed full-sized doors to hide the crawl spaces, tore out the existing rough-in plumbing and installed new bathroom fittings, fixtures, tile and bead-board to our specifications. He also repaired an antique dresser that I had originally intended to use as a vanity.

Because we had a terrible experience with our first contractor, we were cautious in selecting a new contractor. Bill answered all of his telephone calls promptly and was prompt in giving us a thorough estimate. He did not ask for any advance money, so we knew he was solvent. Bill was on the job when he said he would be and he was very easy to get along with. He accepted our suggestions and we accepted his. He was available to pick up the materials we ordered from various vendors. We had him perform additional work which he did for a very reasonable price. He did not nickel and dime us for work done that was not spelled out in his estimate. When Bill was finished with our renovation, his price was the same as the estimate. We are very satisfied and we will recommend him to others. We had to wait for his services and we are glad that we did.
Description of Work: Bill Shepherd corrected and completed a bathroom renovation that was begun by another contractor whose work proved to be sloppy, shoddy and sub standard. Bill and his workers had to remove most of the previous work. His tile contractor did a perfect job installing a shower stall and marble floor. It turned out beautiful and perfectly installed. Bill had to reinstall dry wall so that our walls were not curved. He installed hardie board in the shower and on the floor and built a foundation for the shower. Bill installed a wall hung vanity, fixtures, toilet, mirror, shower bar, shower doors and towel bars. He also updated the lighting with recessed lights and painted the walls and woodwork. All of his work was very satisfactory and we are more than pleased with the outcome.

I felt that the work itself was good. The company they suggested we purchase the materials from also worked out well. The communications with the company were not that great. When I had arranged for the contractor, Bill Shepard, to come to the house on a day that I had taken off work, he didn't show-up. When they performed the work, they were a bit disorganized. For example, they asked if we had handles during the middle of the project. I felt that he should have made sure that we had these before starting the work. There were an awful lot of unnecessary trips to the truck and they also left behind a few items. I don't have any hesitation about the quality of their work as the vanity looks great. Overall, I would say they did good work at a good price, but they were a bit disorganized. I am unlikely to use them again in the future. I am confident that the work would turn-out well, but I am hesitant to use them because of their lack of organization and responsiveness.
Description of Work: They installed a new vanity and sink in our main bathroom.

I appreciate the feedback from this customer. I am pleased that the quality met a high standard.Unfortunately we fell short of this customer's expectations on communication. We take all comments seriously and will work to sharpen our communication. Just a couple of comments from my perspective. I have never not shown up for an appointment. My recollection is, the vanity was not ready on the original install date. I phoned and made a new installation date. I was not involved with the ordering of the cabinet, I did recommend the supplier, and picked it up when it was ready. As for the handles, typically handles or knobs do not come with a cabinet. Most cabinets are made in such a way to use them or leave them off. We did make several trips from the bathroom to the truck. Installation required removing the old vanity (In pieces), Installing shut off valves, supply tubes, a faucet, leveling the vanity, the granite top, caulking, Installing a new drain, cutting a vent in the bottom of the cabinet for HVAC, installing knobs and handles, testing and cleaning. My guess is it took at least 20 trips up and down the steps to my truck so as not to bring too many tools into her house at one time. Again, I appreciate her feedback.

These guys are very conscientious and honest. They don't accept payment until the job is done, and will return for "fixes" and "tweaks" without complaint. They only tackle one major job at a time. Bill is the most easy-going, nicest person, who obviously enjoys his work. He is transitioning his son Luke into more of a front-man position within their company. Luke is also a very good guy, easy to work with, and he was primarily responsible for the great tile job. I was pregnant at the time this work was occurring, so it was important for us to get the job done quickly and to our satisfaction. They went over the initial timeline by about 3 weeks, but this was manageable and due (in part) to some mix-ups at the tile shop and the regular occurrences of home improvement jobs. We had an excellent experience with Craftsmen Service Co. and would welcome them back into our home for future jobs. Their execution of our vision produced a great "vintage modern" bathroom.
Description of Work: Craftsmen Service Company demoed and renovated our small bathroom in an old Victorian House. This included adding sheetrock to the walls and ceilings, extensive tile-work, installing all new fixtures (including a heavy cast-iron tub that they dragged up a flight of stairs!), installing a mirror, creating shelving in the wall recesses to maximize storage, installing lights and an exhaust fan, and painting. They also created a pocket door, making use of a vintage door we purchased from the architectural salvage store.

I found Bill of Craftsman Services through a search of remodelers on Angie's List. His reviews were great and people said that he was easy to reach. I called to set up an appointment and he answered the phone!! After meeting with him, I decided that I wanted him for the remodeling. My husband and I were going to be gone out of the country for 2 1/2 weeks in September and I asked Bill if he could do the work while we were gone. He agreed and came over many times to talk about what we were going to do. He recommended companies to visit when I needed to get ideas for the work I wanted done. He passed any discounts that he got on materials on to me. He always had time to answer questions and follow up on things. While we were gone, he emailed me pictures of the progress on the bathrooms and texted me if he had questions or concerns. The bathrooms were finished, except for the shower doors when we arrived back home. I didn't like the color of the grout that I had picked out. Bill was able to change all the grout in the shower and on the floors. He never stopped until I saw that everything was perfect. .He doesn't want to be paid until the job is done. I can't recommend him highly enough. He is so peaceful and calm, even when I called with a couple of things that had to be fixed like a tile on the floor that had to be replaced. He never acts too busy. His work is 1st rate.
Description of Work: We had 2 bathrooms that were connected by a door. One was a 1/2 bath, the other a full bath. We had doorways to both widened, the wall between both closed, new toilets, tub removal, new shower with glass doors, new vanities installed, new flooring and tiling. He put in new exhaust fans and painted both rooms. Because out shower is small he had to build the shower base himself.

We contacted Craftsmen last spring to get an estimate for remodeling and after comparing it to other estimates and companies we chose Craftsmen because of their positive score on Angie's List and we also felt that they understood our project and they had lots of creative solutions for it. Work began June 1 and took approx. 2 and a half weeks (on schedule). They were excellent with communication and we spoke with them every day that work was being done and got an update on progress at the end of each day. Work began on the bathroom first and Luke did the majority of the remodeling. The bathroom was completely gutted and the ceiling was raised. The new tile work throughout the bathroom is beautifully done and we were impressed with the way Luke and Bill were quick to offer creative solutions if a challenge arose. We were extremely happy with all of the work and it exceeded our expectations. Next, work began on the replacing the old carpet in our Master bedroom with bamboo flooring. This job was made more complicated by the fact that our bedroom is half over our basement and half on a concrete slab. Over the years, the joint where the slab meets the basement had become un-level and Luke had to level the floor before installation could begin. He came up with a creative solution for this using a combination of machinery and techniques and he managed to completely level the floor and install our new flooring which we are extremely happy with. The third job was building a wall in our kitchen to separate it from the spiral staircase entrance to our basement. Bill's carpentry work on this project was fantastic, it perfectly matched the original woodwork in the house and it looks like it has always been there. He also added a window at the top to match the windows that are in the rest of the house, this allowed us to maintain the original architecture of our home that is so important to us. Overall, we were extremely pleased with all of the work that was done and everything came in right on budget (we were also able to save lots of money on tile through them).. We highly recommend them to anyone planning a remodeling job. We are going to be remodeling our kitchen in the spring and will definitely be working with Craftsmen again!

I have a moisture issue originating from the second floor bath into the first floor bath. Numerous plumbers told me that in order to fix the issue, the workers were going to tear in the walls, ceiling and floor so I decided to go ahead and get estimates for a bathroom remodel anyway. I called Crafsmen Service and spoke to Bill on the first call. He was very pleasant and set up an appointment for the same week. Bill came out on a Saturday afternoon and said that the problem was the shower curtain and that I was somehow letting a lot of water outside of the tub. Of course I was surprised by this evaluation because I've never seen water outside of the tub (or never saw leaks, puddles, etc.). He suggested a "brown paper bag" test to see if water seeped out. I tried his paper bag test for over a week and never saw a drop of water outside of the shower/tub. Bill also suggested to paint over the mold that was growing in the downstairs bathroom ceiling and wall as a result of the moisture problem. Bill assured me that the drywall was salvageable and painting it with a "Killz" type product would kill the mold entirely. I was not comfortable with this type of solution and decided to get a second and third opinion.

Response from Craftsmen Service Co / 1 Stop
There must have been a misunderstanding of my opinion on this problem. I would never suggest for someone to paint over mold. My approach is to first eliminate to main cause of mold "moisture". Second treat the mold with a mold killer such as diluted bleach or a commercial solution I use called "Moldblaster". After sucessfully treating the mold and eliminating the water we paint over it with "KILZ" primer then paint. As to the other issues raised, when I arrived at this persons house she said several contractors had already been there and couldn't explain the mold problem. There were no obvious signs of water supply or drainage problems, I simply suggested to lay something on the floor outside the shower to check for water splasing out around the door. There was evidence of the floor sloping (from water splashing out) where the floor meets the tub. There was rust in the HVAC pipe in the same area. I always give an honest opinon based on my experience. There was no need to tear out the walls to repair a problem that didn't exist.

Mr. Bill Shepherd was a pleasure to work with. We called for an estimate and he came to our house the next day. He was extremely professional, and provided insight on the work needed. We were so impressed with him we hired him on the spot. He purchased our tile for us and installed it the following week. He took 3 days to install - day 1 to install the tile, day 2 to grout the tile, and day 3 to seal the tile. He gave us this schedule as it is the right thing to do in terms of time for the tile to set prior to grouting, sealing etc. This was not billed on a time/material basis so extending the work for 3 days did not increase the price. This is a testament to Bill's pride in his work. We couldn't be happier with Craftsman Service and we will certainly use Bill in the future for our Master Bath remodel.

I emailed Craftsman Service for an estimate for a bathroom remodel. Mr. Shepherd responded within 24 hours and was on time for the estimate appointment. He emailed an estimate as agreed. He was able to start work within a week. He also gave us suggestions for places to look for vanities and tile. He ordered and picked up the tile we had selected. He also picked up the other materials needed. He arrived at 9 each day and was done by 3:30. He replaced the toilet and vanity and ceiling fan and closet door and floor. He also painted the walls and ceiling. He finished the job ahead of schedule. The work was very professional. We have asked him to do some additional work on a closet in another part of our house.
Description of Work: Craftsman Service did a remodel of everything in our bathroom except the tub and tub surround. They were very punctual and were done a day ahead of schedule. They arrived at 9 every morning and were finished by 3:30. The workers were very professional. We are thrilled with our bathroom remodel by Craftsman Service.

I can't recall the exact day I called Bill, but I do recall he responded to my call the next day. He was prepared to come out the next evening to discuss project and give an estimate but, I was going to be out of town. We scheduled for Monday night and Bill arrived at the appointment time. He sketched floor plan and let me know what the work would entail should I be interested. He e-mailed me later the same evening w/ an estimate. When I informed him that I was ok with the estimate we scheduled start date for the next week. Due to a delay at previous job Bill called to say he needed to postpone start date by another day. Bill was very apologetic in not being able to keep appointed date. I went to Home Depot and chose my tile, grout color, and toilet. I gave Bill my choices and he went to Home Depot and purchased the items for me and brought with him to the job. Since the start time was for 9am on 3/11/10 it was at this exact time that Bill, Greg, and Luke got to the house to begin. Bill showed me the tile to be sure it was the one I wanted. Bill kept me informed with progress. Finished the flooring but needed to return the next day to grout and install toilet. They cleaned up everything from the work area to where no one would have known that such extensive work had just been done.
Description of Work: Due to a leak around toilet area in bathroom there was damage to the existing floor and had gone through to sub floor. The current vinyl flooring was removed as well as sub flooring(more from around toilet area). New plywood and backer board installed. Also had to remove baseboards and install new baseboards. Laid ceramic tile and installed new toilet.

Though we decided not to go forward with the work Bill estimated, the experience we had with him was exceptional. He was easy to reach by phone, punctual at every point, professional, knowledgable and communicative with his estimate, and he gave us great confidence that when we revisit this effort, we'll be calling on Bill to get work done.

As anyone who has called Bill can probably testify, he always (I mean, always) answers his phone. From beginning to end I think I only had to leave two voicemails (promptly returned) over the course of twenty or thirty phone calls). The initial Saturday afternoon phone call (based on his Angie’s List profile) resulted in a visit within two hours, and an estimate for the job the next day (Sunday) – this was in mid to late October. Once the project was finalized (including two visits with Bill to Home Depot and Fergusons (also highly recommended, by the way), contract completed, materials purchased and obtained, the actual work was started on Monday December 7 and completed on Saturday, December 12, 2009, as scheduled, in the contract. About that contract – this was my first major home remodeling effort, and my first dealing with Bill. The contract I used (from legalzoom) was a 14 page monster probably more suited to the construction of an airport. Bill was initially irritated and in fact he nearly turned the job down – but he took my point that, actually, I didn’t know him, but I have seen and heard of others who got involved in extended horrible remodeling experiences. After a frank conversation we worked through his concerns with the contract and he signed. I am glad he did. The completed project is as described, on time, on budget. He was on time for every meeting, arrived and departed when he said he would, took care of anything I asked for that wasn’t strictly part of the contract (that faucet installation in the full bath through the adjacent room – had to be done to fit the trim we purchased, but done for a fair additional cost). I will use him again (we are already talking about my unfinished garage) and am glad to have access to a true professional I can count on. Enough said.
Description of Work: Project called for the complete removal and reinstallation of a second floor master bedroom bath, including shower (Swanstone walls and receptor, Kohler faucet and trim); flooring (vinyl); toilet (reinstalled existing, fixed leak damage to plywood subfloor); painting (walls, installed and painted baseboards); removed mirror and installed medicine cabinet. Replaced every faucet in the house (including kitchen sink (and incidentally repaired a leak from the dishwasher drain line)). Replaced faucet (which involved going through the wall in the adjacent room) and trim in upstairs full bath, including recaulking the tub as a last minute request). Price noted includes materials and labor.

The entire experience was wonderful! My kitchen floor had an imperfection for which other contractors said I could only lay flexible flooring. Bill stated that he could correct the imperfection and I could use ceramic tiles. I also wanted granite countertops installed, and he referred me to a firm in Hilliard that does wonderful work and the price was very reasonable. Bill was in constant contact with me throughout the process, even calling me after the countertops were installed to see if I was happy with them. Whenever I called him, he returned my phonecalls in a timely fashion. His original quote for the floor replacement included something that did not have to be done, so I ended up paying him less than I anticipated. I would highly recommend hiring Craftsmen Services. If or when I decide on more house renovations, I will definitly contact this company!
Description of Work: I had 355 sqft of vinyl flooring removed and replaced by ceramic tile, covering my kitchen, laundry room, and bathroom.

Bill Shepherd is the name of the owner. His is a two-person operation and he works with his son. We were very satisfied with the amount of work that they did which included the price and everything. We found them to be very, very nice, friendly, helpful, reliable, and professional. I would use them again. Bill Shepherd was very honest in terms of what he could do. He recognizes that he is limited because it is basically just he and his son doing all the work.
Description of Work: We had used Craftsmen Service Co. for some work in our basement. They had basically turned a junk yard that we had in the basement to a very neat place. Now we have about 480 square feet of living space nicely lit up with walls, ceiling, and a new bathroom with shower. This work was done by them back in 2007. We found them to be very dependable and they did a lot of things that went beyond what we had contracted for. They had taken care of little details without adding them to the final bill.

Bill and Luke did a very good job. Our bath looks great. They worked with us when we wanted changes in design. They also coordinated with other contractors who installed the counter top and shower door. They cleaned up every day. Bill came out on Sunday when I discovered the toilet was leaking. He determined that the tank was defective. He went with me to Home Depot to return it. The new toilet had a leaky valve so he went back to Home Depot to get a replacement tank. In all, Bill spent most of a Sunday afternoon working on a defective toilet that was Home Depot's responsibility. Bill has also followed up with me to make sure we are happy with our bath. We would highly recommend Craftsmen Services.
Description of Work: Remodeled master bath. Gutted most of bath and built a new shower. Installed new flooring, vanity, lights, toilet. Installed tile and painted. The price shown was for labor and miscellaneous materials, e.g., grout, lumber, cement board, etc.

I called 3 contractors for estimates to remodel my bathroom. I spoke with Bill Shepherd & he came out to look at my bathroom the next day. He was definitely the fastest to respond - both coming out to look at the bathroom & providing the estimate. I knew as soon as I spoke with him on the phone that he would be the contractor I would use! I had read so many good reviews on Angie's List about him & my first impression of him was accurate. He's extremely trustworthy, very knowledgeable, & easy to communicate with. I already knew exactly what I wanted, I just needed Bill to do the work for me & offer up a few suggestions. There were a few occasions when something had to be slightly different than I originally envisioned, but Bill always brought it to my attention first if my plan wouldn't work. For instance, I wanted a toilet paper holder in a certain spot, but it had to be moved over slightly because of a 2 x 4 in the wall. Bill & his son Luke showed up around the same time each day. Both were very friendly & easy to work with. Since this was my first major remodeling project, I wasn't sure exactly what to expect & had a lot of questions along the way. Bill was always patient with me & took the time to explain everything to me. I was pretty nervous when they started to tile the shower because I had never seen tile work in progress before. Bill assured me multiple times that it would all come together & look great once it got grouted, & of course it did! My entire bathroom is just stunning! I literally can't stop looking at it or bragging about it! I turned out exactly like my original designs & blueprints. Bill was very accommodating throughout the whole project. I know I'm a picky person, & that's most likely because I'm an artist. There were several times when I wanted to replace a few tiles that were scratched or crooked & he didn't seem to mind prying them up & replacing them. If he did mind, it certainly didn't show :) Even though a remodeling job creates a lot of mess & clutter, they kept it pretty clean. I saw Luke sweeping my floor once & felt bad because I knew the floor was dirty before they even came. HA! And when Bill tracked in some grout, I witnessed him on all fours on my kitchen floor cleaning up his footprints! Bill estimated the material cost, but only charged me for the materials he used, which ended up being less. He supplied copies of the receipts & marked off a few items like tape & turpentine & explained that he had only used a small amount of each, so he wasn't going to charge me for them. I thought that was super awesome & honest! My only regret is that I didn't find Bill sooner. I was planning on using a contractor that a friend had recommended, but after meeting with him twice, I realized he wasn't trustworthy. So I joined Angie's List & luckily found Craftsmen Service Co! I won't hesitate to call Bill for future estimates. In fact, I wouldn't think of calling anyone else! I couldn't be happier!
