Active Landscaping & Irrigation

The $35 special was very good for fixing a few minor items and evaluating the remaining needs of the system. The follow up visit was exactly as they quoted and all repairs were completed.

I paid for the sprinkler system inspection and tune up. after we troubleshot the issues with the rain sensor, he found a broken pipe in the front yard area where the city had come and replaced the side walk. he quickly fixed that and the yard was left so you didn't know he'd even dug up part of it. thanks.

I wasn't home but lawn looks much better

A few weeks ago, two of my six irrigation zones stopped working. The valves were contiguous, so I had Active's technician concentrate on the electrical connections. He dug to the connections, opened them, re-stripped the wires and re-connected. The zones now worked. He also re-plumbed another zone area due to an oak tree root incursion, and replaced a Hunter rotor in yet another zone. Two weeks later, the two original non-working zones again failed to operate. I called Victor, and he sent a supervisor within two days. He re-exposed the original wires (25 years old) and discovered that the wires themselves had become brittle and corroded. (The original installer had used indoor wire for the entire outdoor system.) He traced the wires to the controller, and explained that, at least for these two zones, he had to re-wire from valve to controller. Considering the condition of the wires, I agreed. He did the work, and I now have a full working system. There's a good probability that wire corrosion will cause other zones to fail at some point in the future, and I will certainly call Active for the repairs.

Brian was great. Knowledgeable and professional. The office confirmed appt. we walked the zones together and he educated me on the system. I will use this company again and request Brian.

This company was a nightmare from the beginning. We should've cut our losses sooner, but continued to give them chances. This process started with them a year ago. We asked them to look at & repair our irrigation system. They came and did a maintenance at the discounted coupon price. We paid them again when we cleared our lake easement area. When we found that there were still problems with some of the sprinklers, they charged us again although apparently they didn't check thoroughly the first two times and fix. We also asked them for landscaping estimates, and a year later, still have not received them. It took almost a year to get sodding estimate, but they finally referred us to a sod company that was great. Regarding lawn maintenance, it was very pricey but they said it was because they did a high quality job, so we went for it. They did a nice job cutting the lawn & edging, but the moron cut down a 1-1.5 foot mango tree (grown from a seed we got from Miami for the past 2 years). We notified them only to have one of our papaya trees cut down the following week! The guy said he did not come near it, but you could tell it was cut as one side had no grass around it. The main guy, Victor, is very hard to get a hold of unless there is a crisis (like you threatening to leave them and take your business somewhere else). I don't want to get a quick response only by threatening. Shari (their secretary) was also not very helpful. After we fired them, we continued to have sprinkler problems and the pump stopped working completely. They came out and said their was vandalism (which we found it hard to believe) and was going to charge us more money, so we hired somebody new (go with Mike Miller Sprinklers ... we had a great experience with them and they found that there was a blockage in pipes in the lake as opposed to vandalism). We also went with a different lawn care company which was half the price and does just as good a job if not better. In all fairness to this company, they did refund us some of our money for cutting down our fruit trees, but this shouldn't happen in the first place and you can't replace what took 1-2 years to grow from a specifically chosen seed. AVOID THIS COMPANY!!! Update: The owner had the nerve to call me this morning after he saw my review and begged me to delete it. He even offered to PAY me to do this!!! Unbelievable!!! Makes me wonder why this company has so many good reviews now! This type of bribery is very fraudulent! He continued to make excuses for everything that went wrong ... the ongoing theme throughout our 1+ year relationship with this company. Very pathetic and sad!!! Rebuttal: (a) The original sod company did not change prices. Like Active, they had poor communication and did not return calls when we decided to go forward with sodding. The papaya tree WAS cut down! We have a picture and it was a clear cut, and not the storm blowing it down. Just unbelievable! If you read the other reviews, and this company's responses, you can see that they are just full of excuses. That is all I am going to say about them ... GOOD RIDDANCE!

All went well, except I wasn't sure to to ask for and there were really no changes to the sprinkler system.

Service was performed promptly and done well. Service tech was friendly and explained what he was doing and had done. Very happy with service.

My lawn was only maintained for a couple of months. From the very first time, Active did not address any of my landscaping (bushes, plants, trees, etc.). Also, I received a complaint from my neighbor because they blew all of the lawn waste into my neighbors driveway/yard. I shared this feedback, but my neighbor continued to not only complain to me...but also the workers. In addition, he mentioned they were in-and-out in ~30mins and never maintained anything except cutting the yard. As the weeks went by I received more feedback from other members in my neighborhood as my trees and bushes were pretty bad. I was already frustrated and embarrassed about how my yard looked, so it didn't help that others were calling it out to me (most friends just asking if I need a referral for a good lawn/landscaping service). I sent pictures on several occasions to Active and received two voicemails while I was away on business travels. When I returned I contacted Active and was informed they made a horrible mistake estimating my service and they were already booked and couldn't take on more than a 30-min job. Since they came out and did the estimate, actually seeing my entire yard, and we were clear on expectations...I have no idea what happened on their end. They admitted they were unable to successfully handle my job in the time they allotted, again, apologizing for their mistake. This left me very frustrated as I was paying less for the prior service who took care of everything; so now I would question their pricing if they are more and only planned for ~30mins a week (prior service spent 2 hours weekly). I ended up terminating the service immediately. I remain in shock that a company made that big of an error on something so simple as providing a quote and keeping a promise. Also, I had several other jobs I was willing to offer and made it clear upfront I wanted to give a month or two to see the quality of the work, then I'd offer more jobs to them (cleaning out and enhancing landscaping, turf pest control/fertilization, and irrigation). Upon our last conversation they were to submit a bid for clearing out the old landscaping in my pool area (one small request), which I had been asking for and never received. I reiterated I'd still like that when they offered (to have for a competitive bid) and was told it would be emailed. I've yet to receive it a couple of weeks later. I have never experienced anything quite like this and hope to never go through it again. My family and I have many other important things to do than to invest time, money and energy in a company that cannot deliver or keep their promises. I cannot and will not recommend Active to anyone going forward. I have plenty of pictures to share (as per Angie's List recommendation) but there is no option to upload them on this feedback page.

Average service. We expected them to adjust coverage and clean clogged filters.

The entire operation was professional, prompt, and very responsive to all calls and inquiries. We continue to use them for our needs.

As advertised. Work was performed as requested. Tech was efficient in confirming that valves were the issue. Explained to me the work that would be performed and estimated timeline. Todd (tech) represented his company very well.

.They arrived early, first thing in the morning. Both were very courteous and professional. They continued about their work professionally and I asked questions. They provided an option or two for me and explained a few things I had questions about. They found a few small problems with my sprinklers and took care of them. My charge remained the same, it was the a deal, I pre-payed on Angies List. I received the other estimate (e-mailed) shortly after they left and it looks very reasonable. I have already recommended Active Lawn Care to a neighbor!

It went very well! There were no additional fees. My husband said they were professional, prompt, and knowledgeable. We would definitely hire them again!

The service did not go very well. I ended up having to hire another company to do the service correctly. The technician did not know much about the service I needed. I wanted them to repair the sprinkler system and the technique they had did not work well and it ruined my grass. The technician was a nice person and scheduling not an issue.

I accompanied Dan as he checked each zone and made notes of sprinkler heads that needed a tune up or replacement. He explained certain items as we did the check up. I am extremely pleased that I chose Active to perform this check up. I would definitely use them in the future for any irrigation needs. Sincerely, Bob

Everything turned out well. I dealt with the owner who was very knowledgeable, thoroughly explained what he was doing, and did a good job in all respects. Furthermore, he was on time and came out just a few days after my call.

Wow! Am I impressed with this company! A tech came out promptly when I got an Angie?s list deal for a routine check of my sprinkler system, and found a problem with the manual function on the clock. Before that could be fixed, my new yard guy hacked off 2 sprinkler heads and the clock decided to show me where the problems were by spraying gallons into my porch. In a panic, I called the company - well after 5 o?clock ? and got a prompt call back with guidance as to what to do. The next morning, bright and early, Brian turned up at my door to fix the several problems that a week ago I didn?t know I had. He was great! Very polite, efficient and helpful, explaining everything to me. Every person I?ve encountered, whether in person or on the phone, has been very helpful. I think I?ll go to their website and see what else they do. This company has earned its reputation!!! PS: Some people think I?m hard to please. Don?t know why.

The visit went great and I was given a class on how to use the system. Several recommnadtions were also provided. It was a thorough job done, completed to ahigh standard.
