Overall the completion of the agreed projects went well. There was a written/verbal agreement on the project to be completed in a timely fashion. The hourly rate $50 which I felt was on the higher end but agreed from previous review that the it would be quality craftsmanship. He requested $100.00 deposit for material he would pick up at the lumber mill. The other needed material that needed to be selected and picked up he would at no additional cost. I paid for all other material that was required to complete the projects except of minor(small bracket, clamp, few screws) items he stated was used at no cost. As he words "don't worry about it" I was understanding after he cancelled on several of the dates scheduled. The excuses were he injured his back, need Chiropractor appointments with full day recovery, His daughter was sick, He was sick, and there was another job he needed to take because it involved an elderly lady and light replacement. Each time the cancellation (6) was made on the morning he was suppose to perform work. I was understanding each and every time to give him the benefit of the doubt. Except for picking up another job when he was schedule to perform work at my location. I expressed my displeasure on his unprofessionalism. He gave me a sob story about the elderly lady need beside the day was ruined due to this decision. At this point we were well involved in the projects. He apologize that this action would not occur again. At the end of each day he wanted to be paid cash with promise of invoice. Instead of making this clear which I had no problem paying for the labor completed for the day. He would state I have bills due, Its Friday, and Its the first of the month. Each day he worked he was paid in full for the hours he worked. Prior to the last day He stated he would have the receipt for the materials he had purchased with the $100. On the last day I asked for the final invoice and receipts for material. He stated that he had forgotten them but would send them that evening. I mention that I should be receiving a refund due to change in the necessary material was reduced. My gut said to hold back on paying him in full. That is my fault for in trusting that he would have been a man of his word. I gave him the final payment and he would review/send a copy of the invoice and receipts. For the next 5 days I got excuse of why the information wasn't sent, now there was hours he wasn't paid for due to pick up items(it was in our agreement), there was no money left over because of material he had purchased or used (never provided proof) and refusal to answer the phone call, I have the text messages to provide if anyone would like to verify. In a text I explained how unprofessional he has acted on not refunding the difference back to me. It was a matter of principal in the end. As I stated to him he once stated that word of mouth was an important part of his business, He lost this customer beside my neighbor and friend. The $50+ dollars he kept was it worth a bad review and lost of future income. As of today there has been no contact from this person. I didn't like that he took photos of the inside of my home without permission to post on his facebook page.
