Very great company to deal with. From scheduling the appointment to dealing with the technician everything was top notch. I will definitely use A-1 Door again!

Home warranty company contracted A-1. After seeing the reviews we were somewhat hesitant, but were completely satisfied after having them here. They said we would need to replace the circuit board which was damaged and also balance the garage door which was off kilter. We were told upfront that our warranty may not cover the maintenance on the door. I confirmed this info with our warranty company so it came as no surprise. Once we got our schedules together they came back and did the work. Very courteous and professional. We spent $75 for the warranty co-pay and $95 on the additional work.
Description of Work: Our remotes were non-responsive to the main circuit board.

I was told that the belt needed replacement and door was out of balance and an estimate of $275 in addition to the $45 paid for this call. The technician said the part would need to be ordered and take 3-5 business days to get the part. My home warranty company called and said they wouldn't be covering the service which is BS but the point is this company shows up as a garage door repair company and doesn't carry the parts - they need to be ordered?? They stiffed me for by $45 to give me the prognosis. The office wouldn't order the part without a deposit? Really? Don't you repair garage doors? Don't you need these parts anyway? I called another company who came and repaired the problem as they carry parts required for the business of repairing garage doors.

When a homeowner contacts their home warranty company for a problem, the home warranty company contacts us with basic information to contact the homeowner to set up an appointment to diagnose the problem. Anytime a homeowner places a claim with their home warranty company there is a deductible due. The home owner is fully aware of this and the home warranty company determines the deductible amount that is due. As a contractor for the home warranty company we are responsible to collect that deductible for the home warranty company. We are the middle man. We do not control coverages on home warranty policies. We do not receive their policy information. Once diagnosed we contact the home warranty company and give them our information of diagnosis at which time they review the homeowners coverages and comtact the homeowner. Anytime a special order part is involved, our company policy requires a deposit.

I paid $90 to put the cables back on the door and the service fee was $60. It was fine until Saturday when the sprocket wouldn’t unroll. I called them yesterday. I told them it had been making a noise on Friday and then it broke on Saturday. I have called 4 times and have not received a call back. The garage door has been stuck up for 4 days.
Description of Work: They fixed my garage door.

The homeowner paid $90.00 on June 4, 2014 for our technician to put the cables back on her door. The home warranty company did not cover this item. This required labor only. The homeowner paid a deductible of $60.00 to her home warranty company. We merely collect that for her home warranty company. The homeowner called our company yesterday stating that she wanted service immediately. We explained to the homeowner that we would have to set up an appointment. She stated she would have to call back. Due to storms in our area yesterday our phone system was down. We did speak to the homeowner yesterday afternoon at which time we explained to her that our phone lines were down. By her explanation her call was for a different problem. We told her that we would not charge her a service call since we had been out there in the past 30 days. We would only charge labor plus parts.

A-1 called me promptly. I pointed to the broken spring and he said ok give me $75 because he could not call the home warranty company before me paying that. He called the home warranty company and said it was not covered and I needed to sign off on it and it would be $285. He refused to give me the address of the business. He said he did not know it. He refused to even give me his name. They left my front door open and refused to close it. When I called A-1 to find out the name of the man that was in my home they refused and said that was no business of mine. I asked where their place of business was and the only address she would give me was a P.O. Box. I had another contractor at the house at the time and he felt so bad and even apologized for them who he has no connection with.
Description of Work: I called my home warranty company and they sent them out to fix the spring for my garage door. They said it was covered.

This homeowner like others on here do not read their home warranty policy. As a contractor it is our responsibility to collect their deductible. We explained to Mrs. Homeowner that it is our responsibility to her home warranty company to diagnose the issues and contact them so they can pull up her policy on the computer to address covered and non covered items. We never receive a copy of a homeowners insurance policy. We receive a work order giving basic information, homeowners name, address, telephone number and the nature of their complaint. It is also listed on the work order the amount of the deductible due. Prior to contacting the home warranty company we are required to collect the deductible per the home warranty company's policy. Upon the technician attempting to collect the deductible the reply of Mrs. Homeowner was what if it isnt covered? The technician explained that anytime you place a claim with your home warranty company; the deductible is due whether it is covered or not covered and that if she did not wish to pay the deductible that he would simply report to her home warranty company she didnt pay it. She elected to pay it. Once the technician called into the home warranty company; He was told the item was not covered. Anytime an item is not covered our company always gives a quote. The quote for this homeowner to have her spring replaced was $185.00. The home warranty company contacted the homeowner immediately to explain her coverages at which time she became angry taking her frustration out on the technician making false accusations towards him and the company attacking him verbally. The technician attempted to tell Mrs. Homeowner that he had no control over coverages and she should contact the customer service department with her home warranty company. Her response to him was to leave her property immediately. The technician did as she requested. The technician is merely the middle man. It is unfortunate that this home owner was misinformed by her home warranty company that her spring was covered. Our company has no control over coverages. Again if homeowners would read their policy this type of situation would not have incurred.

A call to the Home Warranty Service resulted in them checking the sources I had read as they related to my experience at which time they offered another option to my service need. I graciously and expeditiously accepted the offer and opportunity to avoid working with this service provider, A-1 Door. Paid the $75. service call and feel it was more than worth it to avoid future contact ... I couldn't imagine dealing with this woman if there were an actual problem with their work ... The new installer was out the next day and installed a new garage door opener in a prompt and professional manner ... I'm confident I made the right decision when I moved to another company even when there was an added expense in the form of the $75. service fee paid to A-1.
Description of Work: Introduction to service provider was thru Home Warranty Service. After a week to get a tech out he was punctual and professional but garage door opener required parts to be ordered. I was told another week to get parts and then a week to reschedule. Documented fabrications ensued. As in other summaries on this company, thru Angie's List and other online sources, the trouble surfaced not with the tech but the "Customer Service Manager" whose bad attitude and lack of appreciation or understanding for the customer's needs quickly surfaced.

We received a service work order from [member name removed] home warranty company on January 16,2014 at 2:36 pm We contacted [member name removed] on that same day at 3:04 pm and set up an appointment for Saturday, January 18, 2014 per [member name removed]request due to his schedule. This information is all documented. I am uncertain where [member name removed] time frame is coming from unless it is due to him waiting on the home warranty company which is out of our control. As soon as we receive customer information, we are required under contract with his home warranty company to contact the customer within 4 hours of receiving the information. We contacted him within the hour. I also noted that [member name removed] stated he had visited other online sources which he failed to mention names of these other online sources. Any other online sources that we are connected with have A+ ratings on our company including the Better Business Bureau. The other complaints listed on this particular website are "home warranty" customers complaining of items that are out of our control. The home warranty has a protocol our company must follow to obtain our contract with them. Alot of the homeowners do not understand their home warranty company procedures. Our parts department contacted [member name removed] on Monday, January 20, 2014 at 9:38 am to inform him that we had ordered his circuit board at which time [member name removed] became beligerant complaining he wanted a new unit instead. The parts department attempted to explain to [member name removed] the procedures to no avail. His home warranty offered him a "cash buyout" since he was non compliant to the normal protocol, therefore [member name removed] had the advantage to contact anyone to repair/replace his unit in his timeframe. The $75.00 service fee [member name removed] referred to in his complaint is not a service fee but a deductible that is due anytime he places a claim with his home warranty company.

**WARNING!** My home warranty co. randomly picked this place to fix my broken garage door spring. I called them on Friday (11/1) as they were located 1+ hrs away to see if I could take pictures and send them to eliminate a trip to the house. They said to go ahead and send pictures and they will see what they can do but they may still need to come out. I took 10 pics and sent them. I received this email in return: Mr. ------- This is definitely a special order spring. We have ordered it. As soon as we receive it, we will contact you and schedule an appointment to get it replaced. It normally takes 3-4 business days. Thank you for taking the pictures and sending them. This will expedite the service. Amber Metzker Parts Manager A-1 Door Repair Service,Inc. 863-667-0715 (Telephone) (Based on her email they should have been out on Nov 6-7th to fix it) She called me on Thursday 11/7 stating the part would be in next Tuesday 11/12 and they would be out on Wednesday 11/13 to fix. I questioned her on why it said 3-4 days and now its going to be almost 2 weeks. Immediately she started making excuses that the people who send the emails are not the same people who order the parts etc?I asked how it was then possible that the email says 3-4 days from the parts manager? Then it was another story about how they have to specially make the springs for the doors etc?(I was simply trying to understand why it went from 3-4 days to 12) it turned into a finger pointing match within the co. and I felt she was being dishonest at this point and probably didn?t order the part on the day they said. I then asked if they were on Angie?s List and the phone went dead silent for about 3 seconds. She abruptly stated that ?Sir, we have gone above and beyond because we didn't come out on a service call and waste your time, we took your word for it and ordered the part based on your pictures?.I interrupted her an said, WHAT?! You?ve gone above and beyond? I?m the one who suggested it. I then became upset that their poor service was now being claimed as a favor to me. I asked at least 6 times if they were on Angie?s List and not only would she not answer me, she continually interrupted me and talked over me. She finally said ?I don?t know if we are on Angie?s List?, so I asked who would know? She said ?Hold on, I?ll check? I was put on hold and after about 60 seconds the phone went dead and when I tried to call back, nobody would answer. Several minutes later I received and email from my insurance co. that they had transferred the contract to someone else. Did she just seriously hang up on me, refuse to answer the call and then refuse service because I questioned their service quality and asked if they were on Angie?s List? Yep...she just did. Let me say something here ? not only did they treat me with total disrespect, she also told me on the phone that they BROKE POLICY BECAUSE THEY ARE REQUIRED TO DO AN ONSITE VISIT BEFORE ORDERING ANY PARTS! I had no idea and she never said anything about a policy requirement when I offered to take the pictures. I had to call the Ins. Co. after this to find out what was going on and she also explained to me that they broke policy and this may jeopardize their contact with the Ins. Co. for failing to follow the policy! DO YOU WANT PEOPLE WORKING ON YOUR HOME WHO ARE WILLING TO SKIP ON POLICY REQUIREMENTS? HOWEVER, When I actually was able to get a co. from Angie?s list here to fix the spring they called me on Friday and they showed up Monday and the guy had both springs on the truck. He also told me THEY MUST come onsite and measure the springs diameter because they can be as small as 1/16th difference and when he changed mine, I had two different size springs so whatever they ordered at A-1 Door Repair most likely would NOT have been the correct one and they may have just put it on anyways and I would have never known it was the wrong size spring. I BELIEVE IF THEY ARE WILLING TO BREAK POLICY THEN THEY WOULD BE WILLING TO BE DISHONEST IN OTHER AREAS AS WELL. **YOU'VE BEEN WARNED!**
Description of Work: Nothing thankfully. However it would have been to replace a broken garage door spring.

We received a work order from [member name removed] home warranty company on 11/1/2013. We contacted him that same day. I would like to clarify that we were not randomly picked by his home warranty company. We are a preferred vendor for his home warranty company. The normal procedure for his home warranty company is once we receive a work order for a particular homeowner we contact them and schedule an appointment for a diagnosis. Upon contacting [member name removed], he demanded that he send pictures of his broken spring so that we could place an order for a new spring and make one trip. He further stated that he had dealt with his home warranty company in the past and he knew how the procedure worked. He stated he didnt have time to deal with several trips to his home. My dispatcher stated to [member name removed] that he could send the pictures (of which he sent two) and we would be happy to review them to see if we could determine the size of the spring. My dispatcher stated that if we could determine the size of the spring we would place the order but it was not a guarantee the spring would be covered under his policy with his home warranty company. The dispatcher also explained that this was not normal procedure for his home warranty company and the reason for the diagnosis visit was to thoroughly inspect all components involved with the garage door and garage door opener to detect any and all failures. [member name removed] continued to be aggressive in sending the pictures stating he was confident that it was only a broken spring. We ordered the spring as promised and sent [member name removed] the email he attached however if you note it stated "it normally" takes 3-4 business days. This was a special order spring. It took 7. Upon our telephone call to [member name removed] in an attempt to schedule an appointment with the full intention of diagnosing the garage door and garage door opener (with the special order spring on hand) following full procedure with the home warranty company; [member name removed] became beligerant and non compliant with procedure. We contacted his home warranty company and explained the situation. The home warranty company commended our company for going above and beyond by ordering the spring prior to the visit in an attempt to provide excellent customer service. They stated that due to the circumstances and the homeowners non compliance that it would be in the best interest to transfer this homeowner to another preferred contractor in their network. It was our full intention to accomodate this homeowner in spite of the situation.

Our garage door did not want to close - it would take anywhere from 2-8 attempts to get the door to close all the way. I had TWO other garage door techs look at it and nobody could diagnose the real problem, all saying it was the sensor and nobody fixing it. The problem had gotten worse so we filed a claim through our home warranty company and were set up with A-1 Door Repair. P.J. Metzker was the technician who came out and I could not have been happier with his work. He did a thorough examination and noticed that there was some bad wiring and that the door itself was very off-balance - a big safety hazard because it would come crashing down if someone pulled the release cord. P.J. was extremely knowledgeable and thorough, as well as very nice and conscientious. I would recommend P.J. with A-1 Door to anyone.
Description of Work: Repaired bad wiring and balanced the door.
