co. put the house together. I asked Scotto for someone in charge to come back & Rich was sent out. He looked at exposed 2nd floor pipes & admitted there was a real problem. Rich was concerned house had been put together w/out adequate repair. After he talked w/disaster response project manager I questioned Rich. He got very angry & then belligerent. The first time Rich was here he was very pleasant. Scotto never corrected the seal between toilet & flange. I called another plumber who did extensive work on replacing pipes, tearing out ceiling to get to pipe that was going uphill, etc. If I had allowed disaster response co. to close up walls & ceiling w/the way Scotto made the repairs I could have had another leak. For that reason I do not intend to pay remaining $452 as the leak was not repaired. If Scotto wishes to pursue this further I will retain an attorney. Scotto has been very pleasant to deal w/on phone, except Rich, who completely recounted his story & became belligerent.
Description of Work: Ernie came 11/02 to unplug toilet on 3rd floor & was very pleasant to work with. He showed me 2nd floor carpet & ceiling, & 1st floor garage were soaked. A disaster response co. came out & removed a portion of carpet & walls to determine moisture had been there for some time. I had to move out for 5 months. On 12/22/03 I pulled the plug to drain a full bath & brown water went into the shower adjacent to the tub. Later the contents from the 3rd floor bathroom stool (adjacent to the tub & shower) went into the shower. The 2nd floor carpet & ceiling were all wet & water was pouring down in the garage. The disaster response co. came out, tore out the 2nd floor walls & the 1st floor ceiling & determined it was a new leak. Scotto came out & the plumber was in the bathroom for some time. He then called for backup & Rich Klauck came out. They removed the stool, snaked out 3rd floor pipes & left. The 2nd floor ceiling was open & Scotto only snaked area out & was ready to have disaster response

Ernie's service call 11/29/02 cleared stoppage after much difficulty. Ernie could tell by direction of drain clearing cable that something was very wrong & suggested Member get help. Ceilings/walls needed to be opened to expose drain lines between floors. We were called over a year later. Ceiling was closed in area of problem & Rich could not see if original problem had been repaired & if so how. He ran sewer machine several ways & each time cable came up in another fixture. He called for backup & service manager Bob Lantrip come out. They worked until stoppage was cleared. Within a week stoppage reoccurred. In meantime ceiling was opened exposing a section of drain line that was running up hill. A section of line was replaced because repair couplings were in place. Bob was not privy to whether this was a recent repair. We were not asked to repair this problem & another plumber was hired. We were only hired to clear a stoppage. We did not create the problem that caused stoppage.

Per April Shiver: This one is very hard to address as I pulled the original invoice from 3/4/03. Our technician was called out because she had no hot water. He found that the existing water heater is 23 years old & it had tripped the breaker. He pushed the reset button to turn the heater on & provide hot water. He told her that the water heater needed to be rebuilt or replaced to repair properly. He suggested replacing the water heater over rebuilding it due to the age & because we could not warranty a rebuild on a water heater that old. Member said she wanted to talk to her son about it before she decided. The tech charged her the $49 service call fee less $15 disc. we give to all Angie's List members. We did not hear back from her. Mr. Lawson, Scotto's President, reviewed the inv. & agreed w/ the tech. Mr. Lawson also noted that the tech, Harry Bruder, has been w/ our co. since Sept. 2000 & has never had a complaint smelling of alcohol. Our co. does not tolerate alcohol or drug use.

PER APRIL SHIVER: It did indeed take us three separate service calls to get members water heater installed completely. The first technician sent out found that her water heater needed to be replaced and scheduled to return the following day to install. Member told the technician she would not be home but she would leave the door open. The office was not aware of this. Then the dispatcher sent a different tech out the next day to replace the water heater. He found no one home and tagged the door. When member called back we realized the mistake and rescheduled to install the heater. We take responsibility for this error and I have sent member a letter of apology with a refund check for her inconvenience.

THE PLUMBER WAS PLEASANT BUT EXTREMELY SLOW-MOVING. HE SEEMED TO SPEND MORE TIME TELLING ME ANOTHER 15 MINUTES HAD PASSED THAN HE DID ACTUALLY DIAGNOSING THE PROBLEM. I PROBABLY WOULD HAVE CALLED SCOTTO'S BACK IF THEIR PLUMBER HAD SHOWED A SENSE OF URGENCY. ULTIMATELY, MY HUSBAND REPAIRED THE TOILET.

Harry carefully protected each jobsite while performing his work and when he was finished he cleaned the sites thoroughly.

I called Scottos Plumbing and got a real live person on the line! I couldnt believe it. The very nice lady took down my info and said the plumber would come between 12 and 2 p.m. I was able to get things done around this time frame! The plumber came at 12:30. He had a nice white shirt and looked like he came to service a computer not a toilet bowl! I had Art Rears who gave an estimate, and he is licensed. He checked the drain mechanism, pulled out hair, and the drain worked. No charge. He rebuilt the mechanism in the toilet tank (gave a two year warranty) including a new flush handle. I wanted all PVC, as the water here is hard on metal parts. The charge was $149 using the coupon. There was no mess. Art left as clean as he was when he came in! It was convenient too that Scottos takes Visa. Scottos has a beautiful big truck, which is a workshop on wheels. This is a good business with good people. I will call Scottos again.

I DECLINED HAVING THAT DONE BECAUSE, IN THE FIRST PLACE, I DO NOT BELIEVE THAT THE SINK IS UNREPAIRABLE--IT ONLY NEEDS A WASHER--AND IN THE SECOND PLACE THE LEAK WAS NOT BAD ENOUGH TO JUSTIFY THE EXPENDITURE OF THAT MUCH MONEY.
