He finally started on DECEMBER 8th... but still insisted that he could get the job done before the 16th (when my husband returned). After the 2nd day, he called and asked if the 2 guys who worked with (and for) him could come by themselves because he had to check on another job. After that, he never showed up again, it was just his 2 workers by themselves. They did 4 1/2 rooms without him. On the last 2 days, one of the 2 guys was sick, and one was working alone. The guy working by himself informed me that he wasn't getting paid for mileage or driving time, and was going to talk to the owner. If he didn't start receiving compensation, he would be quitting the company that evening and starting his own.
That night, I got a text from the owner that they needed to take a few days off and couldn't be back for about a week.
My husband came home to an unfinished (and somewhat chaotic) house, and we decided that we didn't want it to be that way when our son came to visit. So we asked him to wait until after christmas. He said that he could restart on the 29th. Ever since then it's been excuse after excuse about why he can't make it this day or that day, and we've been getting pushed back time after time. My husband found a few quality discrepancies that he wanted fixed, and the owner blamed it all on the guy who was working alone, and said that he fired the guy. Thats funny, since he guy already told me that he was quitting...
This has now been a 3 month process, and it's still not done. He keeps saying that he will 'make it up to us' (hopefully that means reducing the balance we owe him... that's the only thing that will make us feel better at this point).
***Update: we had to fire him. After delaying a day for MLK day, He just didn't show up on the next day, when he was finally supposed to restart work, no call, no text... Nothing. And nothing for several days later, until... Yup... Another excuse. So we had to find someone else to do what he failed to do, and fix the mistakes in the other rooms (example: paint dripped on the floor and walls that were finished then dripped on with other paint, paint on our kitchen cabinets and bathroom ceiling, and we now have to paint the laundry room, because that's where the slop sink is, and they spattered paint-water all over the walls and my washing machine)! There was also a set of mini blinds broken, as well as a recessed lighting canister that was broken and will no longer seat into the ceiling properly. I wish I could add pictures to my review.
We've contacted him to come and get his ladders and the few supplies he has here, because they are taking up space in one of our rooms. Hopefully this will go well, but doesn't seem likely since he called my husband SCREAMING at him... I can't even say how unprofessional this whole experience has been. Avoid at all costs... Trust me, in the long run, it'll be worth paying more to go with another company.
Painting was done well & cleanup was great. There was one small area on the ceiling that was not fixed. I am still waiting for the painter to come back - he was supposed to call me on three days ago to set up a time to do the repair. I have not heard a word. AND, I gave both painters a $20 tip (each).
Job started off badly. Painters were to be at my home on a Wednesday and finish by that Friday. I got everything ready over the weekend. On Monday evening - 36 hours before the time they were to start - I got an email from the owner, Joseph, saying that they were postponing my work until the following week and would work on Monday and Tuesday of that following week. No call. No asking me if this was okay. It seems the job they were on had problems so they just bumped me to another week. Luckily, I was able to arrange to be home that next week. Then I had to contact Joseph to find out the time they would arrive in the morning.
Good painters. Joseph has a lot to learn about being a businessman. I would not hire them again because I expect people to show up when they state they will be there!
"In response to [members name] review I need to state that yes we had to postpone the start date a couple of days later due to an issue with one of the properties that we were in process of rehabbing. I contacted [members name] with this notification and she was fine with the postponement, only concern was if we would be able to not interfere with the plumber, we accomplished that request. As for the repair [members name] stated, in our contract there was no agreement to perform any repairs just repaint a stained ceiling. After the job was completed and a couple days later she contacted me to say we needed to come back to fix a gauge we made in her ceiling. I went back to look at what she asked and stated that it wasn't from us and that I could fix it however, not for free and that I'd have to get back with her with a date when. [Members Name] failed to state that I honored a 10% discount on a coupon that had expired date wise. I am always professional, courteous, and respect all my customers. My contracts are specific, detailed, and are carried out to the fullest. [Members Name] fails to realize that sometimes in this industry projected start dates are just that… Projected… I'm truly sorry for any inconvenience that we may have caused her, a contract is a contracts and anything outside of an agreed contract is deemed an extra."
When I finally got settled into my new house, I called him and told him that I needed him to make my home "pretty". My new home had wallpaper that looked like it came out of a bad 70's movie and wood panelling (eek!). Joe took down the wood panelling and installed the dry wall and patiently removed all of the horrific wallpaper in all the rooms. He even gave me a great price on powerwashing and staining my back deck. One day I was complaining how much I hated how my back yard looked and he provided me with the name and number of a landscaping company that he works closely with. He even supervised their crew while they were there making sure that everything was taken care of how I wanted it.
What amazes me the most about Joe and Paramount Painting is that Joe is so dedicated to his work. If he says he is going to do something, he will. If a color doesn't sit well with him or a choice doesn't sit well with him, he will let me know. He was super patient when I chose a color that he told me that I wouldn't like and when I decided after the room was painted that I hated it - he repainted the color that he knew I would like. I recommend him to all of my friends and co-workers.
A plus is - he is animal friendly. I have multiple dogs and cats and he always greeted them and petted them and talked to them. AND he warranties all of his work.
The basement remodel was done by others who primed the walls. I chose four different colors, with help of Sherwin Williiams at Joe's suggestion, and was completely satisfied with the job and how my choices looked. Joe isn't afraid to tell you if he thinks something won't look good or will not apply right.
On the previous job in 2012, Joe had to come back and fix some spots which were marked by others and he did so promptly and without complaint.
It's a pleasure to work with a company where the owner is on site and he actually enjoys his work.
