Fine. Their design services weren't that helpful, in the sense that we came in pretty much knowing what we wanted. When we asked questions about type of wood or design options, they didn't have much to say apart from what we would have gotten ourselves by searching online on the manufacturer's website. The vanity was built on time and we were happy with the product overall. But the design side of things was just okay. Plus, we felt like the price was quite high and there seemed to be pressure for us to get more done. We initially had thought of using them to redo our kitchen. But due to the neutral feelings about their design capability, we decided that they were not a good fit for our future needs.
Description of Work: We had them help us design a custom vanity for our bathroom remodel.

Terrible service. Late delivery. Prices changed and demanded money after order and deposit. Terrible, terrible experience. Classic bait and switch. Installation was awful. Still trying to fix all the problems using other contractors since he disappeared like the wind.
Description of Work: Full kitchen installation.

$23,000

Response from National Capital Kitchens
This former client cheated us out of more than $7,000 of services and has attempted to defame our reputation in order to justify not paying for services which were rendered. Their information is incorrect and is intended to harm us. When presented with a final bill for services, Mr. Deak immediately wrote a letter threatening lawsuit. We simply stopped trying to fight with him, but did not realize that he would try to harm us through Angie's list.

Signed an agreement for design and provision of cabinets for a small kitchen on Dec 3 2010 - paid $2,000 down with the balance due upon agreement of design and budget. A critical point is that I told him that I could not spend more than $20,000, wanted maple cabinets with a painted glazed finish and gave him on two occasions my architect's design for the kitchen cabinets to serve as the source of his more detailed design and pointed out certain features that had to be covered within the $20,000. He gave me his strongest verbal assurances that he could provide all for between $14,000 and $19,000. 3 months later he came back with a $39,000 price, stating that all the "custom features" added to the cost. But almost all the features he called custom had been in the architect's design and/or discussed with him, except for some trim around the refrigerator and shelving in the pantry. I assume that his cabinetry is of high quality but quite frankly, you should run, not walk, from any guy who rates himself an expert, gives you his assurances as to what he can do, and then comes back with a price quote that is more than double what he promised. I paid $2,000 for a design that was no appreciably different than a design I got from another cabinet company at no cost. The owner INSISTED upon the $2,000 before moving to the design phase. Don't fall for this if you use him or any other kitchen design firm. It does not cost $2,000 to develop a design and specs.
Description of Work: Design and provision of cabinetry for the renovation of small kitchen in a Capitol Hill Townhouse. Design was executed; cabinetry was not as detailed below.

Response from National Capital Kitchens
The member is a lawyer who tried to bate and switch us. We did quote $20,000 for a kitchen cabinet design which was submitted to us through her architect. But when we started to discuss the details of the actual design she added many things which drove the cost up. When we told her what the cost of the revised design would be, she accused us of "bate and switch." We offered to adjust the design to conform to her desired price point, but she refused to speak to us. She insisted on terminating our relationship, and we accepted her decision. My understanding is that she changed to a much less expensive cabinet line and completed the project. She apparently continues to be angry and has sought to defame us through this allegation. We are sorry that she chose to do this.
