Phil Richardson

We wanted Phil Richardson to paint this small bathroom using a faux technique because we had seen so much of his excellent work in the homes of our acquaintances. Faux painting techniques create a depth and a look that regular painting simply cannot. Phil is a very creative and intelligent guy who takes great pride in his work. He has a really good and artistic "eye" for things, whether it involves matching something or contrasting with it. He wants you to like the results, and if there is any problem he works with you immediately to come up with a way to make the "look" you are getting match what you want. In our case this involved not only discussions and advice about colors, but also discussions and advice of the kinds of results that different faux techniques produce. Phil had many samples of his past work to show what is possible. After color selections were made, Phil started work. His surface preparation was meticulous - cracks in plaster and other imperfections were expertly dealt with. After a section of wall was painted it became apparent that the result was more dramatic than we wanted. There immediately was discussion about how the look needed to be changed. Phil took that information and had the paint store make a slight change in the paint color. He then went over the area again with the adjusted paint and the results were perfect.
