Very knowledgeable, professional, and conscientiousI would highly recommend them.
I had three different brick people come out to give me estimates on cleaning / tuck pointing / rebuilding the brick mostly on the front of the house, but Barry from Denver Masonry was the only one willing to attempt to clean the paint and concrete off of our brick. The other contractors varied in price from $900 to $3200, but that was only for tuck pointing, replacing some of the worst concrete covered brick, rebuilding the top course of porch concrete, and instead of cleaning the back side of the porch, skim coating it with concrete (hiding the brick but making it look uniform at least). Barry's price of $2300 was a bit more than we had wanted to spend, but we were really interested in preserving the original brick look of the house, and he had experience with brick restoration in Denver, so we went with him.
With the estimate we were told that it could be as long as a month - 6 weeks before work would begin. Actually scheduling the work seemed to be a bit difficult at first (almost warranted a B for responsiveness for that part of the process, but more than made up for later). Ultimately I got an e-mail from Barry after about 2 weeks asking if he could start the next day. I said yes. After that, his brick people were there every day for at least 3 full days working on the house, finishing in a timely manner.
The work itself I would probably give a B+ for, but since Denver Masonry was the only one willing to do it, I feel they deserve an A. Almost all of the concrete and paint we asked to have removed was. There were sections of concrete splatter that just wouldn't come off completely, but at least they were faded. We did have some issue with a white residue coming from the new mortar after a few days, but Barry was very responsive and had his guys come out and clean it. We are still having some issue with the residue, but we think this has to do with the mortar being in a shaded area and not drying very quickly. Barry asked us to wait until spring to see if it is still occurring, at which point they'll do a final cleaning. As for the rest of the work, any issue we had was remedied immediately and professionally. The only other thing I could say is that we probably should have had a longer discussion as to the color of the mortar being used (we might have preferred something lighter) but I do understand that the original mortar on the house has morphed into many colors by this point and they matched the darkest one, so I can't really complain on that front.
Overall I would definitely recommend Denver Masonry to do brick work that requires actual cleaning of brick. It may be a bit more expensive, but you'll be satisfied with the results. Also, it seems that patience with scheduling might be required with this kind of work since contractors don't seem to know exactly how long a project will take until they start work on it. I'm very flexible, so this didn't bother me very much at all.
"I think this review is meant for Barry White with Denver Masonry Company. I am Eric Sahs and I own Denver Masonry, LLC."
I did have a small miscommunication that took some effort to resolve, but after contacting the owner it was resolved to my satisfaction.
