Contacted RTC after a pipe broke and flooded our basement. Initially, they were somewhat responsive and came out to survey the damage and tests for water damage in the basement. Then everything changed - very difficult to get them to respond to phone calls, when they did respond it was with incorrect information. Constantly told that they would return phone call and it never happened. Final straw was when office manager gave excuses that owner was out of town on vacation so things weren't getting done.

Can not say enough positive about this company. We winter in AZ and had to do the entire restoration remotely. RTC was fair, helpful and flexible throughout the process. Dried out the area, replaced drywall 3 feet up, pulled up carpet, replaced woodwork where needed. They even hauled all the items and furniture back downstairs when restoration was completed. Unsure of final cost..do not have that info here. All covered by insurance.
Description of Work: Restoration of entire finished basement after pipe break. Flooding not discovered until 3-5 days after event as we were out of town.

After basement was dried out Mark sent his men to lay carpet back down, clean it and install new sump pump. When work complete Mark came by to be paid. We paid $821.00 for that work of carpet laid back down, cleaned and the sump pump (we purchased) installed. He did not have receipt on him so he said he would get it to us. Well it will be one year on June 1, 2016 and still no receipt for our files. We have repeatedly asked for this receipt to no avail. Mark says "I sent that multiple times" when we ask WHERE DID you sent it to NO ANSWER. Have given him our address over and over even said I would pay for stamp to mail it. Our email has not changed gave him that again. Also sent him an email saying just attach copy of receipt to this email and hit reply. Still nothing. It is not a lot to ask to get a copy of receipt. We are not stupid and do not like Mark assuming we are by saying it was sent multiple times. Why on earth would we keep asking if we had it? Even getting our paperwork sent to us for our insurance took weeks. They needed his dry out log, how many fans etc. This we fianally got ONLY after us calling the Johnstown, CO office. How can a company do business if they do not keep receipts to give it's customers?
Description of Work: Water in basement, came extracted water and dried out basement. Also did a second part to this service which was to lay back down dried out carpet, clean it and install new sump pump. We used RTC of Southern Colorado MARK WAS HEAD OF OPERATIONS HERE in Colorado Springs.

RTC Review One of the more difficult things we had to deal with in 2015 was hiring RTC to do a simple mold remediation and remodel on one little bathroom. In short, I would not recommend this company due to a lack of professionalism and the fact that they are not accountable for the work they try to do. Craftsmanship gets a letter ‘F’ due to cutting corners and getting caught. This company claims to have ‘high standards’ and I believe they are well below that. Communication is their weakest attribute. With that, I do not write reviews, but I feel it is important that others don’t have to go through this sort of grief and unwanted stress. I wish I had all the time and effort that I had to put into this, back. I do not recommend RTC. Below I can explain and prove it. Black and Orange molds were discovered in my bathroom in May and these were causing health issues to my family of three. After talking with RTC, they confirmed they could have it all done in a couple of weeks in the month of June. They would also provide a certificate guaranteeing their work and the prevention of reoccurring mold. Timing was very important, due to having an infant in the home as well as holding a public event at the end of the month. This was a major selling point of why we choose them. At first everything seemed fine, they came in and remediated the mold and left a scrubber fan running. I personally called and asked if I needed to buy or pick out the new bathroom fan. I was told that they pick out the best stuff and that I need not worry. A week went by and we heard nothing but the scrubber fan running and running. We were told they were coming over to work on the project several times and we accommodated them by finding someone to watch the dog and leaving our house open on several occasions. However, no one ever called or showed up. When the remodeler finally showed up, they sealed up the attic with drywall and did the most absolute un-professional thing they could. They left the scrubber and insulation in the living room and never Hepa-vac’d anything through an exit path. I personally removed it from my house and left it outside. Following the remodel, RTC came over to paint. We kindly asked them to remove the trim, as we did not want it. When I came home, the trim with the nails still sticking out of it, was laying all over more porch, while my dog and infant child ran around, before I could notice the obvious danger. The paint job was a different sheen and spotty at that. Totally noticeable. Paint splatter was left on the vents, toilet and the sink counter. The towel rack that they removed was reinstalled, only to fall out of the drywall leaving a hole within a day or two. When the other third party showed up to do the mold testing, he told us RTC had messed up and already sealed the attic and that it needed to be left open to be tested properly. Then the remodeler was supposed to come over. That did not happen in the correct order. What he did test was the exit path, (my living room) and it failed. Upon expressing this concern, they openly admitted that no mold testing was done before the attic was sealed. This is a major flaw in the communication with in their own third party subcontractors. Everyone started point fingers at each other and no one took any accountability over their work. Months went by and we heard nothing from RTC. In September, I received a call and an email with a final invoice. I had issues with paying for job that was so poorly executed. When I called and talked to the Owner, Chad, I explained I couldn’t believe that I was being charged for ‘high standards’ on a job that was not complete, and not done in a professional manner. After hearing my story, Chad tried to work with me and he sent the project manger over to inspect. He also argued that mold testing was very sensitive and highly accurate and that they would not have really had to have tested it with the attic open. (Not true) I listened and gave him the benefit of doubt, but remained optimistic. My last conversation with RTC, was that, I did not know how they could make things right, but please do what you think is right. When I greeted Mitch at the door, the project manager, the first question I asked is, “how many times have you been to my house?” (Granted that he signed off on it?) He replied that it was his first time. It is September, not June, that he showed up. He quickly heard my problems that I was having with the whole process and then made some notes and did some mold tests in the living room. He agreed that it wasn’t right and that they needed to do it correctly. They also sent over another RTC employee that said she could do the mold testing in place of the third party, and she said everything passed. It made me wonder why she never went in the bathroom to inspect a fan that wasn’t working, mold that began to re-grow, (mold testing was not done in the bathroom again), and the paint and drywall hole had not been retouched. If she works for RTC, wouldn’t she also want to see the project finished? If the mold test is so sensitive, then why did not pick up the new mold in the bathroom? How is hiring a person in your own company not bias? This was their best. Even after all the time it took to still NEVER finish the job, RTC only gave us 10% off our bill. They left us with work still to be done. The overall experience has left us with an unbelievable amount of stress that has had even worse repercussions. While this stress began to amount to greater migraines, (literally), it became evident that mold was growing out of a fan that was not working properly. The new vent fan provided and installed by RTC started to make a ‘buzzing’ noise and seemed to stop rotating and circulating air properly. We thought to contact our project manger from RTC to look at it, however the trust factor was difficult for us. So, when we had a previously scheduled electrician come to the house to review an un-related scope of work, we decided to have him look at the vent fan as well. He pulled off the vent cover only to find that the new fan motor was improperly installed into the old/original housing unit (which is corroding galvanized metal). The electrician quickly saw that they had poorly manipulated the original housing to try and retro-fit the new motor into it, but because it didn’t fit, the motor has been rubbing against the ceiling of the housing and stopping the fan, causing the ‘buzzing’ and loss of suction. We are not sure how long the suction was lost, but there was water build-up in the bottom of the fan cover and a NEW layer of orange mold forming within it; which is the entire reason we began our journey with RTC in the first place. After this finding, our electrician crawled into the attic above the bathroom, where the work was preformed, only to find that the original plastic duct was not replaced either, and were told a professional should have replaced this to meet new standards with metal duct work. And on top of that, all of our insulation had been pushed aside and never put back in place, leaving most of our bathroom ceiling un-insulated (keep in mind we just recently paid to have new insulation blown in by another company). RTC Renovations ‘high standards’ fail to match up to the actual quality of work received, and demands either a more critical adjustment or accountable response. We have redlined their final invoice in a more than fair approach and I personally feel they are getting more than they deserve, but we still have not concluded a fair solution. Conversations with RTC seem to only go in their favor and the consumer is the one that has to pay. After hiring another contractor to finish the work, it is real evident that the working relationship of RTC is not a good fit.
Description of Work: Hired to do Mold remediation and remodel in bathroom. Black mold through the ceiling and orange through the ceiling fan. What they did is really questionable.

Response from RTC Restoration
We were contracted to do a mold remediation in the bathroom due to microbial growth on the interior side of the drywall due to high moisture content levels because the vent fan was inoperable. There was no remediation contracted in the attic space at any time. We performed the contracted remediation and when our third party testing company went out to test the air quality - they were unable to test because the dogs were out. Technicians responded and the containment and air scrubbers had been removed by the homeowner. Before we could re-clean and re-set containment the drywall installer came and dry walled in the area that had been remediated because they did not know the test had not been completed. We did have a third party come in and test the area and the bathroom where we completed the remediation PASSED the air quality test. However outside of where RTC was contracted to remediate FAILED and it was due to mold in the living room under the sliding glass door. This was discussed with the homeowners. A separate company came in and remediated the mold in the living area and afterwards we had a conversation with the homeowners and they requested that we come test again - so we sent our in house mold inspector to do an air quality test on a remediation that we did NOT complete so there would be no conflict of interest in our doing the testing and it is analyzed by a third party laboratory so it could not be altered in any way. When we came to test the other companies remediation all areas including the living room, bathroom and hallway passed. Any microbial growth that was found AFTER that test would be from a new source and would not be part of the original contract. Additionally we never charged the homeowners for remove and replace of the bathroom vent fan we charged for remove and reset and had a conversation about if they purchased a new fan we would be happy to install it but it would need to have a similar housing or additional charges would apply due to the retrofit. Again - the homeowner has NEVER been charged for a new fan in the bathroom and the technician that installed it discussed with the homeowner the issues with the fan and was instructed by the homeowner to utilize the old housing with a new fan in order for it to work. If there were any issues than a phone call to allow us to rectify this would have been appreciated. We would like to meet with the homeowners face to face as requested to work out final billing as was originally requested in December with no response. We made numerous phone calls and had some discussions but many calls were made without a response by the homeowners. On December 15, 2015 my assistant sent an email to the homeowners requesting that we schedule a time to discuss their invoice and work things out and until this complaint has not had a response. As to the homeowners statement that mold was growing out of the new fan - that is not even possible as mold does not grow on inorganic materials such as metal. Mold requires organic building materials to grow. So any statement made to that effect is not accurate.

They did good work but consistently overpromised, from the first visit (1 hour instead of 10 min to arrive as promised) to a missed appointment to a final bill 25% higher than the estimate (and that's after negotiating to make the billed rates match the the estimated rates). In all, we're happy to have our basement back and happy with the work they did, but we will adjust our expectations if (heaven forbid!) we need them again.
